Hi eUSA, it's me again.

I read an interesting article earlier today titled "On Assholes." I think I've read this before from PQ and it's always great. It reminded me of a fantastic book, "Assholes - A Theory" by Aaron James, published in 2012. In this book James attempts to provide a precise academic definition of what an asshole is. According to James an asshole "allows himself to enjoy special advantages in social relations out of an entrenched sense of entitlement that immunizes him against the complaints of other people."

Hmmm. This sounds quite familiar. Quite familiar indeed. I've only been back playing eRep regularly for a little over a month and I've noticed something quite interesting: a good deal of the eUSA population is fixated on the assholery of other segments, who, in turn, are fixated on the assholery of those accusing them of being assholes.

In short, we're divided, finding stupid reasons to be divided, and trying to justify our divisions on the neverending assholery we ourselves are doing.

It's time for the assholes to stop with their assholery. Yeah, I'm looking at you. You may not think you're an asshole or that your assholery is just fun and games. It's reducing our collective effectiveness and driving the good ol' eUSA into the ditch. Instead of focusing on what matters, like fighting effectively and cooperatively, we're caught up in petty bullshit and personal vendettas.

It's time for the assholes to stop with their assholery.

What is a Mensch?

I used to use this paper to discuss economics and nominate fellow citizens for my Mensch Award. I plan on reviving the latter - there will be Mensches recognized and celebrated. I don't have one today, but allow me explain. From that great source of all things knowledge-related, wikipedia:

Mensch (Yiddish: מענטש mentsh, German: Mensch, for human being) means "a person of integrity and honor".[1] The opposite of a Mensch is an Unmensch (meaning: an utterly cruel or evil person). According to Leo Rosten, the Yiddish maven and author of The Joys of Yiddish, mensch is "someone to admire and emulate, someone of noble character. The key to being “a real mensch” is nothing less than character, rectitude, dignity, a sense of what is right, responsible, decorous".[2]
