[#MUrged] It’s about comMUnity

Day 2,694, 16:34 Published in USA USA by Cubby

This game has taken many turns. We blame Plato for the failures. We congratulate ourselves for the successes. We look to others as friends and foes, or we just don’t care at all.

When Military Units were first unofficially established in this game, they were created by people that wanted to accomplish several things: collect and focus damage, develop players, and build community. These things were accomplished despite game mechanics in a meta environment. Later, the in-game Military Unit was established, and the entities were formalized. Later still, these same units were undermined by the introduction of individual-oriented features such as Combat Orders, Freedom Fighter gold, and other goals that put the individual first in gameplay decision-making. This was good for the motivated player, and bad for the community.

What good is a unit that has nothing to offer that an individual can’t provide for himself? Aha! This indeed is the question that we set out to answer, and the answer was right in front of us. You see, while (contrary to some opinions) we have found the ability to pool our resources through communing provides greater benefit for our members (cause full tank supply and a house make for an easy eLife), there is one thing that Plato has not taken away that brings great value to Military Units: community.

A few weeks ago ST6 sent out a survey to members. We wanted to get a sense for what could most be improved. Undeniably, people wanted the community back—the activity, the people, and the fun! You see, just clicking the red fight button sometimes feels like a chore. We want to feel like we are accomplishing something, rather than just pushing against the tide. This feeling was so unified that we set out to build that community back at any cost.

No doubt you’ve heard through the rumor mill or from the official articles just released from the eUS Military that Seal Team 6 has merged. Despite the fear of loss of identity and history, we have so much to gain. We are stronger than ever—measured by damage, player development, and community—and the future is bright. We believe this move is good for ST6, for the eUS Military family, for the eUS as a country, and for the game. We want to be a part of not just holding on to what we’ve got, but seeing the community be the best it can be. We aren’t pessimistic about the game, we look at it square in the eye and are determined to support it with everything we’ve got.

Whether you’ve been missing activity and community lately, or are just curious how a private MU can offer such incredible supplies, give us a shout. We’d be happy to make you a part of the family.

Is this just a publicity stunt?
Sorry, there’s too much on the line for that.

How do all those egos fit in one MU?
Ya know, we do have a lot of old players. We have many people that have been COs of MUs and run countries internationally. We have tanks that do one thing well: fight. After 5-7 years in this game we have one thing in common: we care about building community more than ourselves. United we have a great cause for which to work.

Are you going to take over the world?
Not right now.

Do you have someone with a Visa backing all those expenses?
Well, yes, but we’ve managed incredible efficiencies with infrastructure and communing that fill the bulk of the balance sheet. We are quite solvent. This isn’t a short term plan.

Is Cubby still Commander of ST6?
Actually, I’m officially XO of the merged MU and will be administratively running the MU. The ingame Commander positions will be rotated to help ensure updated orders.

Does jadiv still command the “illicit” eUS Military?
No, he’s the head of the merged unit, and is my commander.

Is CyberWitch really a witch?
When I tried to touch her broom I inexplicably blacked out, so I don’t know.

Your MU name is stupid.
Yeah, hyphenations communicate but aren’t cool. We’ll be running a competition to name the merged unit over the coming week.

Is there a place for ___ [another MU or individual]?
Yep. Chat with us at #MUrged. We look forward to talking with you about joining the community!
