[MQ's Pool Queue]Breaking bad

Day 2,889, 04:39 Published in USA USA by MaryamQ

So, here we are, 5 days into the first week of the FeMU game, and we are seeing some interesting results. MQ’s Pool Queue broke badly, and remains somewhat behind the eight ball. A mid-week scoring update shows my FeMU ranked 22nd out of 25, not exactly a stellar performance, but the week is not over yet, there has been some change in ranking even this morning, and there are some observations to be made going into the next week.

First, let me share some information about my FeMU. The members are as follows, in order of their original cost, with damage listed as of 0100 on day 2889.

GonzoVeritas, EZC

At $27, Gonzo was the most costly of my picks. He has produced 51,630,793 per dollar spent.

Clorox II, WarInc

Original cost was $24, and damage per dollar is 34,869,238.

MaryamQ, EZC

Original cost was $19, and damage per dollar is 73,887,996.

Celtic Knight, EZC

Original cost was $17, and damage per dollar is 84,909,256.

Cubby, WarInc

Original cost was $16, and damage per dollar is 52,006,179.

Trekker Tlumac, EZC

Original cost was $14, damage per dollar 49,324,725.

TheNorm, EZC

Original cost was $13, damage per dollar 54,145,291.

tsewell, WarInc

Clearly this week’s best bargain, original cost was $11, damage per dollar 266,591,090.

stvrca, EZC

Original cost was $6, damage per dollar 66,072,941.

Perry Rhodan, EZC

Original cost was $3, damage per dollar 92,042,908.

Total damage for all team members at the time this information was gathered was 10,909,825,230, already 9% above my estimate for the week.

Observations

Things change rapidly in eLife and RL. TheNorm, due to RL issues, had so little damage at the beginning of the week that he didn’t even show on the national leader boards. A couple of good days have improved his national rank dramatically. Trekker called an epic battle to my attention less than an hour after I had gathered the numbers for this article. Rankings changed significantly due to that one battle.

I’ll grant that my method for choosing my team, a combination of sentiment, intuition, and a seat-of-the-pants attempt to use all of the allowed budget, was not very scientific, and perhaps not the most effective. However, it is clear that the assigned values based on recent damage were not very good at predicting performance, either. Things happen. People get sick or busy with work/school/family, etc. People who didn’t plan to hit heavily because they were trying to rebuild stores used in recent tournaments found that their damage was needed, and they gave their all. I can’t even predict my own damage from week to week. I certainly can’t predict that of other players. Does anyone know where to get an eCrystal ball?

Paradoxically, those who are on their own FeMUs and also those of several other people, may be helping those other people to beat them while trying to lift their own teams. I’m not sure that there is a solution for this, but it is a potential dilemma for the soldiers in the pool.

Am I discouraged by all of this? No! The competition is fun, costs individuals nothing, and gives us all a reason to keep an eye on how effectively we’re fighting. I hope more people will join in the weeks to come. I know I will!
