Good morning eUK!

One of the more subtle and ‘oh yeah I remember that from last year’ things I do on eRepublik is produce a Christmas Speech. Because of the whole King thing and being like the Queen and so on. Saying that there’s a sporting chance that as I publish it on Christmas eve people are too busy to see it.

I usually offer a handful of reflections to pad out the article, so here goes: Year on year we have witnessed activity across the eUK and indeed all of eRep dip. I believe, as I always have done, that inclusive and engaging political, social, and military culture is what is needed to begin retaining players. What I mean by this is open, accessible systems manned by friendly faces which accept the different ways in which players engage with eRep, whether they be two clickers, people who only want to write articles, run for politics, or solely to fight etc. Everyone has the capacity to contribute, everyone should know there is a space for them here. That’s the impression we need to give to new players who join. Getting rid of our Dictatorship a few months ago has given the eUK the potential to have a dynamic Congress driven system which many countries lose out on by embracing autocracy. We must use it; and be aware of how a lack of engagement can and does produce autocracy even in Democratic countries.

On the military side of things, the eUK has evidently began to shift itself back into a position of eminence and is engaging in the types of battles (with the magnitude of support from allied nations) that can help make things more interesting - we are currently being invaded (and Ireland's doing a Santa Claus and invading our homes on Christmas Eve) but it does not seem a lost cause and I have confidence that we can repel the aggressors and return to feeling accomplished and proud of our military presence.

In my previous article after my tenure as Dictator came to end I spoke of setting up a new party; a fresh direction. I’ll get round to it in the new year and hope to galvanise a shift away from stagnation - vital in providing the foundations of active Congress and so active Democracy. We all need to be conscious of who we vote for, who puts forward active and engaged candidates and who does not. We all have a responsibility and a role to play in encouraging an active Congress, who will seek out transparency and Democracy. But if we are voting for parties who field inactive candidates; or if we don’t know which parties do that; then we become stagnant.

Now for the plucky speech part - a slight deviation from the ‘eRep only’ rule I usually play with when writing my songs. But I am sure it remains something we can all relate to.
