Dear citizens of eIreland,

Our friend and ally, Mexico is leaving the Pacifica alliance. As a Pacifica member Mexico has been in a special position in the bipolar world in the last years. In this article I'll try to explain the changes the Pacifica has gone through in the last one and half year which is the background of Pacifica's current situation and contributed to Mexico's present decision.

Mexico, originally an anti-Asteria country, was a member of the Adriatica (an anti-Asteria alliance founded by Croatia). In 2016 they joined the Pacifica that was more in the middle in the bipolar arrangement and provided more stability that time.

In 2017 the Pacifica led by TheJuliusCaesar moved away from the middle and positioned itself on the proAsteria side. In the previous year they already didn't help Hungary in the war with Romania, and in April Poland, Russia, Finland and the USA attacked Turkey and Ukraine (that time Syndicate members), which has led to the dissolution of the Syndicate and Adriatica alliances. Mexico together with Hungary and Latvia represented an anti-Asteria position within the alliance and tried to bring back the alliance at least to the middle.

Pacifica in 2017: Sweden, Russia, Mexico, Poland, Latvia, Hungary, Colombia, Finland, Taiwan, USA

The debate about this lasted within the alliance throughout the whole year. The proAsteria members, Poland, Russia, Finland and Taiwan promoted the alliance to take side with Asteria and proAsteria countries like Bulgaria and Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) in order to pursue security by siding with the strongest countries in erep. According to the anti-Asteria members this direction has led to Pacifica's subordination to the Asteria and was harmful to the game in general as it increased the already existing alliance imbalance in favour of the Asteria. Their vision was an independent alliance that was able to manage and tolerate different views, and to find a compromise to keep the alliance away from Asteria to some extent in a world where real wars were less and less frequent due to all powerful countries concentrated on the same side.

In 2017 November Mexico attacked Cuba that has led to a counterattack from Iran against Mexico. Poland denounced Mexico's action and for the first time publicly stated they were ready to remove member states from the alliance for active engagement in anti-Asteria wars.

In 2018 January Hungary got into an open conflict with several Asteria and proAsteria countries, and this campaign has led to the final rift in the Pacifica. Hungary was removed from the alliance. Mexico, like all member states except Russia voted in favour for Hungary's removal. The USA whose position was unclear so far and Latvia who was considered anti-Asteria suddenly committed themselves on the proAsteria side by airstriking Croatia and broke relations with their historical anti-Asteria allies (Argentina and Greece). Mexico who had historically good ties with Andes members like Argentina, Chile and Venezuela also gave up on these MPPs although in the airstrikes didn't participate.

The USA's airstrike on Croatia brought to the light the widespread dissatisfaction with them, and later led to their deletion by both anti-Asteria countries (Croatia, Hungary, Egypt) and proAsteria-Asteria countries (Bulgaria, Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Lithuania), countries with whom they worsened their relations until this point in January and countries with whom they did the same years before.

After Hungary was removed and USA and Latvia took a proAsteria position, the Pacifica became an almost homogenic proAsteria alliance. At the same time their objective to achieve security through siding with Asteria has utterly failed. The Pacifica has lost its intact position that was typical for the previous years. The USA, Colombia, Taiwan are occupied for months. Russia was attacked two times, Sweden already three times this year, the last time South Korea attacked Finland too. Pacifica needed to host and invite strong allies from outside the alliance to their original regions to repel these attacks.

Although the Asteria, Bulgaria and Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) are helping some of the member states (Poland, Russia and Finland), they do not consider the Pacifica as a whole their ally, and they even attacked some of its members (USA and Colombia). This means a part of the Pacifica cannot count on any help from outside the alliance in case of an attack and their diplomatic relations have been greatly reduced as they are rejected by both the Asterian and anti-Asterian world. Moreover the Pacifica's strongest members Poland and Russia don't provide any kind of military help to their allies against the proAsteria countries with whom they have good relations. Probably a diplomatic solution is being preferred but this is unlikely to be reached in the foreseeable future.

All of this has been more than true for Mexico, who having historically good relations with Andes countries lost its MPPs with its long time allies. In this situation Mexico hosted training wars on its original regions with Albania and Ukraine. With their departure from the Pacifica they are seeking a change of direction, and they also assured they had no problem with the Pacifica.

I wish Mexico all the best, and I hope in the future they will see their courageous decision to be the right one.

Good luck Mexico!
