[MoFA] From differing alliances to friendship: Chile and Bulgaria

Day 1,815, 21:09 Published in United Kingdom North Macedonia by Foreign Office

Hello there eUK and the world!
Over the course of the month ahead, we will be explaining to you the history of particular allies and perhaps even enemies to detail why the relationship is at the current status. In particular, it would be interesting to see how relationships between two countries have formed and how they have changed over the last couple of years as the game changes, wars change and alliances change.

Before I begin, I would like to welcome the following people to the Foreign Office this month, some of whom will be taking on tasks to find information and get in touch with people in particular countries. And here are the stars for this month:

Alliance of Baltic Countries - mittekemuis
Serbia - nebojsa.petrovich
Germark, Norway and Sweden - Zaphod Beeblebrox IV
Brazil, Canada, Ireland and the USA - Jimbojoy
Unassigned: Horatio Vowles, painkiller789, James Scarlet, yurigavin and Viridi

You can still join the ministry. Send Kravenn over a message and he’ll get you sorted with access and what to do!

This article is going to explain our relationship with now allies, Chile and Bulgaria, both of whom were on the other side of the polar world earlier this year.

Bulgaria’s exit from Phoenix
Although we were enemies for the last two years, Bulgaria weren’t always in the “brotherhood”. In fact, we first became allied to them when we joined PEACE Global Community in 2009, which dissolved to become Phoenix. They were faithful allies to Phoenix up until November 2010, when they decided to part ways with the alliance and declare themselves neutral. The reason for their departure was cited as being a result of differences of opinion between their government and the headquarters of Phoenix. In addition to that, Macedonia was added to the game a month before this crisis in the alliance and Bulgaria wished to go to war with them in order to generate a babyboom. The alliance refused. A vote within the alliance was initiated that asked if countries wanted to see Bulgaria removed. The United Kingdom voted for Bulgaria to stay & Iain Keers, UK citizen and then Secretary General stopped the vote from continuing.

Two months later, Bulgaria would join EDEN, back when it had more of a meaning. Bulgaria was accepted unanimously and from that moment on, the UK and Bulgaria became indirect enemies. Soon after, Bulgaria went to war with Serbia, Turkey and Macedonia, our allies at the time and we fought against each other.

Bulgaria departs from EDEN
The United Kingdom entered ONE in December 2011 and we further became enemies. However, soon after this occurred, Turkey decided to join EDEN’s side as a result of ONE HQ saying no to their demands. This led the way for Bulgaria’s departure from EDEN in the spring of this year after months of fighting, demands and boycotts. Turkey and Bulgaria, the latter in particular, began throwing natural enemy proposals at each other.

On Day 1582, Bulgaria officially left EDEN. Throughout the whole ordeal, Bulgaria had the support of our neighbour, Ireland whom had excellent relations with Bulgaria until the summer. The event gave Bulgaria memories of the past in Phoenix after a few member nations, including Turkey and Argentina, voted to dispatch Bulgaria from the alliance.

Bulgaria later had a babyboom that joined as a result of heated relations between Turkey and Bulgaria. We decided to help out Bulgaria during this, which later resulted in a MPP being signed. The friendship was renewed once again and the MPP was the first to be signed between the UK and Bulgaria in two years. At the same time, Chile was booted from Terra for similar reasons as Bulgaria’s exit from EDEN - because Argentina didn’t like Chile, just like how Turkey didn’t like Bulgaria. Both of them remained together and formed one of the world’s newest alliances, the Circle of Trust - an alliance which was formed on the basis of friendship rather than the now cliched idea of brotherhood. The creation of the alliance was probably in response to the bad experiences that Bulgaria has had with alliances in the past, in addition to not wanting to join ONE at the time.

Chile’s story
Just like Bulgaria, Chile was an ally back in PEACE GC but instead of joining Phoenix after the alliance collapsed, they decided to join ALA - Alianza Latino Americana - along with the rest of South America. However, the alliance collapsed not too long after in March 2010. Chile proceeded to adopt a neutral stance internationally. We had very little interaction with Chile, at least not up until June 2011 when Chile became an official member of Terra. Again, just like Bulgaria, they became unofficial enemies. We had been in Terra a few months prior but we promptly departed after nearly being forced to align with EDEN. Our governments had little to no interaction.

Relations between EDEN member Argentina and Terra member Chile quickly began to turn sour in the early months of 2012. After attempting to block Argentina’s manoeuvres, Chile was ejected from Terra. Many in the world saw this as Terra succumbing to Argentina in order to retain Argentina’s damage rather than attempting to talk to Chile and sort the situation out.

Regardless, a babyboom quickly occurred in Chile and the UK public offered their help to their new allies, cementing a friendship. Grateful for our aid in raising food for their new citizens, an MPP was quickly signed.

We continue to offer our support to Chile as they seem to be permanently at war, trying to escape Argentina’s imperialistic desires.

Final words...
We feel privileged to have such great allies by our side and we hope that relations continue into the future during these uncertain times in terms of alliances internationally. Let’s continue bringing the fight to EDEN!
