[IBC] - A Very Royal Past

Day 2,178, 13:51 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Horatio I

A very Royal past

"Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony." - A filthy peasant, day 407

An article reflecting on the eUK’s Royal past

The Coronation

There wasn’t one. On day 406 I, Horatio, proclaimed myself a King and it was so. Now, I never proclaimed myself King of the eUK, simply a King, in in the eUK, which is still the current title I hold.

The Debate

My proclamation sparked fierce, heated, and often humorous debate. A debate that led to various Acts of Parliament, eventually leading to the coronation of King Stephen (Fry), First of his name, King of the eUnited Kingdom.
In time actual residents of the eUK became his heir and for a while, the eUK was a de jure Constitutional Monarchy.

The Present

I believe, but I stand to be corrected, that the Monarchy Act was repealed and this Kingdom returned to being a congressional republic and so it stands today.

Why?
I was bored, it was fun, no one was hurt (Except for a minor peasant revolt where I was beheaded, I believe).
I have been a gold buyer since the day I hit the submit button on the registration page. I have, most likely, in total bought near 10,000 Gold. Yet looking at my stats, where did it all go?

In the past I have funded and succeeded in two resistance battles to free eUK regions from foreign occupation,
Funded the true heavyweight tanks of their day in our battles,
I chucked gold at capturing regions in France,
I ran a corporation called The Imperial, which was spread across five organisations (non-player accounts) and had companies across four countries in the world and often sold products at a loss and paid the highest wages. When I left the game for the first time, I simply gave them eUK’er called Squiddy, whom ran the Zycon corporation.
I bought up vast amounts of currency to stabilise the monterey market.
More recently, earlier this year I have donated much to the Legion Military Unit.

Did this truly make me worthy of Kingship, no, I had a few supporters but people like Ian Keers have done so much more for this country without spending a single penny on gold but I did what I could. II have never been international, andI have never once ventured outside the eUK to foster relations, allies and more importantly friends. There are people who have done exactly that and they are the true King’s of the eUK.

It’s easy to forget the work that goes on behind the scenes, but we should remember and commend these actions for without friends all we have are enemies….
