[eUSA] Congress, Politicks, & Bad Ideas.

Day 1,922, 07:47 Published in USA Sweden by Lonestar 2

Citizens of the eUSA,

This is a congressional platform article,
Which is an outdated tradition from the old election system.
Ask any questions you may have in the comments.
I'll send some weapons along to anyone with good questions/contributions.

Party President's Suggested Musical Prelude.
~ It's fairly modern, yet somehow feels like a rediscovered relic of the 80s. Like Rainy. ^_~

So you want to be in Congress?
USWP Congressional Candidature

Back a few days ago I said to Rainy Sunday,
Rainy, should you win your election as USWP PP, I am yours to command. I shall relinquish my party to Zoli, return to USWP, resume my place on the USWP Executive Board, run for Congress, etc, should you so command. YOUR CALL. Just say the word.
🙂 😉 😃 😉 🙂

Sadly, she called me on it.
So, I filled out the USWP Congressional Candidature, as linked above.

1. Are you registered @
Yes. I also contribute to funding it, most months.

2. Do you use irc?
Yes. Sadly.

3. Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?
Because those * Hawai'ians abuse the generosity of the federal government. * them, all of them. Rotten * would be third world citizens without this great nation.

4. If any, what positions have you held in your MU?
Back in Mobile Infantry I refused any leadership roles, I was happy to serve. I helped make the JCS self-sufficient back in 2010. I worked to build a national Pakistan military later in 2010....

5. If any, what positions have you held in your Party?
... Now? None. Wait, no. USWP Vice President, USWP Executive Board, USAP Zombie Horde. Before, in the eUSA, USWP PP, AAP PP, APF PP, URP PP, AKP PP, USWP Executive Board; Congress x5 in USWP. Before, in Pakistan, Stone Ocean PP, Congress x1 in Stone Ocean. Stuff. Also other stuff. Across multiple lives.

6. Are you familiar with the eUS Constitution and Code?
Yes. I re-wrote the eUS Constitution in 2010 after dragging Eugene Harlot, Cromstar, Fionia, and some others, etc, along by the arm. Mainly, onyl Harlot and Crommy were any fun in the process. Anyway. We killed the judiciary and massively streamlined the roles of government, which was good. We establishd the JCS as the third branch of government, which seems to have backfired. Anyway, I reviewed the changes since then. Yes.

7. Do you agree to abide by eUS Immigration rules?
No. Frankly... I kinda side more with the AFA on this one. Back in the day, I was the first eUSA IES Director. I also developed the first Congress ATO strategy that provided 100% blocker coverage. I fully understand and believe in solid immigration and ATO policies. Recently I have also served in the DHS and other government groups for a few governments. That said... it might be time for some revision of our immigration policty. Times change.

Immigration is a zero sum game; every recruit empowers us at the expense of other nations. May it result in shifts in national policy and alliances? Yes. Fine. Life happens. Numbers may be worth the risk.

8. Can an ambidextrious person make an off hand remark?
Yup. Definitions, yo.

9. Do you commit to serve the duration of the term?
Yes. Of course. The power of Rainy Sunday compells me.

10. Are you interested in pursuing a Congressional leadership role?
Mebbe. Depends. This is best given to younger players.

11. What are your views on current US taxes?
This one is complicated... I'd like 1% taxes on the dead industries, flat 1% VAT, 99% taxes on raw materials for imports, leave imports on weapons and food 1% until we have 10/10 someday then go 99%, and set income taxes as high as needed to support the military. Taxes -> National Power through Force of Arms.

12. What are your views on current US Foreign Affairs?
Depends. I, for one, support our CoTWO Overlords.

I say, MPP the main TWO nations (Spain/Poland/Hungary/Serbia), Russia/Brazil, and the 4 biggest CoT nations; cap the total at 10 to free up funds for MU support. Move close to CoTWO. Develop a global economic stranglehold on EDEN, similar to the old PEACE GC global war/ally plans, except focused on Trade Embargoes and MPPs, it's simple.

13. Have you served in government before? What roles?
Jeezus. eUSA VP, IES Director, Congress, National Security Advisor, Advisor, DHS Member, ATO Coordinator, McFarland Constructions Project Manager, etc. Pakistan CP, Congress, Generallissimo. Yes.

14. Would you like to be paired with a mentor?
Yes. This can only end well. ^_~

15. Chocolate doesn't ask silly questions. Chocolate understands.

16. Your name.
Just Max. Nothing Special. ^_~

17. Profile link, please.
Past Lives

Party President's Opinion:
<rainysunday> excellent

This is the point where you might expect a platform.
So, let's go over it, by the buttons. Relevant.

Congressional Laws:
1. Changes Taxes.
See above.
2. Country Donations, Issue Money.
I plan to follow the normal procedures for efficient operation of government.
3. Minimum Wage.
Anything above $1 USD is silly. Let the market sort itself out.
4. Natural Enemy.
We elect a President to develop foreign policy. For significant decisions like declaring war and naming natural enemies, I generally defer to the elected executive leaders. My specific views on nations/alliances are stated above. If you want specifics on resource acquisition, I recommend Taiwan (Rubber, Fish) via occupation, Canada (Iron, Deer) via occupation, and Mexico (Saltpeter) via treaty. The resources we lack can be acquired through diplomacy with CoTWO, as friends/allies, not enemies.
5. President Impeachment.
Personally, I prefer sticking with the guy elected by the people, even if he doesn't please the politickal in-crowd. For example, I wouldn't have voted to impeach Glove. Similarly, I'd likely not vote to impeach an AFA CP unless they were actively detrmental to eUSA interests. Mind you, that means national interests, not partisan interests. These guys will eventually have their day.

Presidential Laws:
1. Airstrike, Alliance, Declare War, Peace Proposal.
Refer to the points above.
2. New Welcome Message.
These should be fun and informative. That is all.
3. Tade Embargo.
So... we're in CoTWO now. Why don't we Embargo every EDEN nation consantly? Why don't we push our allies to do the same? Economic Sanctions exist for a reason. Think about it.

1. Freedom vs Unity.
I say accept the AFA as much as possible. Let them participate in the Congressional forums. Let the parties independantly determine whether they want to participate in the IES process or run immigration independently. Keep the Unity Presidential Primaries for those parties who wish to participate in them, otherwise let the elections run naturally within the game itself. If, at any point, the current AFA and it's affiliates prove disastrous, deal with it when it happens.

As dear Jack said,
"...because quite bluntly I do not care about AFA,
I think it is much worse to live in fear of PTO than to actually be PTOed."

I remember him first and foremost as a new player I once mentored...
Now I quote him for his words of wisdom, born of his own jaded experience.

I say, Let the chips fall where they may.

2. Party Politicks.
I suck at party politicks. My attachment to the USWP is pure nostalgia. Personally I hope Rainy Sunday seizes power in a more permanent fashion making us a far-right authoritarian party, in function as well as in name. It's about time we had another movement like S.E.E.S. and so far SPQR has displayed incredible potential but failed to deliver.

3. International Relations.
I personally love Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Brazil, and Russia. I think the folks in Macedonia are likely to be almost as much fun. I liked the folks in Croatia and BiH ages ago, but that is our past. I say look forward. I say look not merely toward our friends in Brazil and Russia, not merely to our allies in CoT, but over time also to the incredible potential of our future allies in TWO. Times change.

4. New Player Programs, Ambassadors, Other Programs, Etc.
This stuff falls under the purview of the executive branch of government.
Congress can get the ball rolling sometimes, but the branches exist for a reason.

Party President's Opinion:
<rainysunday> LET IN ALL TEH SERBS

So... I figure some folks might be upset now.

At best, I'm just one guy in Congress. Nothing More. Nothing Less.

Speaking of which, I see some good folks from all parties on the tickets this month. Lots of new blood like SinAria and Clint Carmel. That's good.

Cheers. ^_~

Animis Day 1,922, 08:21

A lot to read here, but our issues are huge, so it evens out....

Conceptually, I like your ideas about taxes and economy, at least for now, except for how they are might impact the MUs (need more review on the MU aspect).

The current tax situation was designed for an entirely different set of economic needs. You have the brand name and long history and reputation to push a change through, despite the naysayers and others who are stuck in the vortex of a meta game null players that are a bunch of self proclaimed economists who have done as much good as they have caused or stood in the way of solutions.

When all is tallied up, you represent change and that cannot hurt us at this time.

Your fresh ideas and a new PoV can only be neutral or improve things as far as I am concerned..... GO MAX! GO USWP! GO Rainy, GOOD Move!

Lonestar 2
Lonestar 2 Day 1,922, 09:01

Thank you. 😁

I hope to discuss the tax system more with congress and the economic council. If they have solid reasons, ok. I just think ourcurrent system really looks like a legacy system that we outgrew. Especially when I compare it against other nations in our size/strength range.

Animis Day 1,922, 09:45

I especially agree with you on this "our current system really looks like a legacy system that we outgrew", it is failing us and part of this is due to the game limitations, but we can still do better.

Catch me up some time so that I can explain the reasoning and the empirical proof.

Kemal Ergenekon
Kemal Ergenekon Day 1,922, 13:07

I am an actual economist; you are a self-proclaimed expert.

Lonestar 2
Lonestar 2 Day 1,922, 13:16

I'm no expert. I deal with various organizational budgets at work, and I took plenty of finance courses in my MBA coursework. That said, I know finance 😕=economics. This is why I always want to speak with the actual economists in this game... the scope for a nation, even a sandbox nation of under 10,000 people, is a bit ouside my experience.

I also learned the last time I was in Congress that the tax views I held going in were not supported by the evidence, once I spoke to the economists. I assume you are part of the economics council, so I assume I will read your interactions with congress on the private boards.

Once I educate myself on the history, I'd like to speak with you to learn your arguments to gain a better perspective. If your evidence shows I am wrong, I'll change my opinions. Simple as that.

At the moment, I simply think our system appears outdated.

Animis Day 1,922, 14:36

I think that was aimed at me. @Kemal, as you know I have a lot of respect for the plan that you took the lead on a year ago. You did great work and put an extraordinary amount of time and effort into not just formulating your plan but backing it up with data. Mad props to you for all of it. Now, our economy has changed and we have new issues and what we are doing isn't working. Yes, the game is a mess and provides very limited options. Regardless, we need to adjust and I welcome some fresh ideas. Unless you self identify as part of the problem, it isn't all about YOU.

Kemal Ergenekon
Kemal Ergenekon Day 1,922, 17:07

@Max My comment was directed towards animis Max; I'd love to explain you the reasoning, and share the data. What you expect in real life economies doesn't apply here due to particular game mechanics.

@animis Thanks for your comment. However, I do not think the economy of today is vastly different than that of before. The government revenues wrt wealth of the players is diminishing, and there is nothing we can do about it unless a module change takes place.

I just saw the game cut out part of my text. x _ x

I meant to say finance = / = economics.

Anyway, speak to you soon hopefully. ^ _ ^

Lonestar 2
Lonestar 2 Day 1,922, 13:25

It should be an interesting month. ^ _ ^

Just read your article.

1. Canada has 3 resources we need bordering us, all of which Spain has at least double of. It should be possibleto work something out with Spain to split the Canadian regions.

2. I know folks want to starve out the AFA, but some bridge or recruitment effots are necessary. They are not leaving and locking them out just encourages them to build and solidify a parallel structure for military units, politics, government structure, etc.

3. America being America, yes. Sometimes we do things that are not the best pragmatic decision. Take, for example, our history of alliances, spread everywhere with underdogs, when we would be better by the numbers sticking inside our alliance. This applies to domestic systems as well. Some efforts to build a better playing field for eUSA players by changing taxes, resources, etc might very well be worth the lost efficiency. Besides, it's not like we even have an empire to defend atm. We don't need maximal efficiency everywhere atm, and there are serious morale problems across our nation.

JyM23 Day 1,922, 13:42

1)Agreed, Canadian resources are rightfully ours!

2) I believe the AFA is now contained and we need to shift into breaking the stalemate. We have introduced the AFA to our stick, the bad cop has done his job. Now the good cop must step in and reach out the olive branch in order to neutralize the threat. We can get the majority on our side by either luring them away or getting them to change their leadership/attitude internally.

3) Yes, I always thought the tax policy introduced under Kemal & others should be viewed as emergency measures. I don't disagree with the theory behind them, but they do take a toll on retention/morale in the long run. Is now the time to change? I'm not 100% sure.

Drew Blood
Drew Blood Day 1,922, 16:44

1) Don't know about rightfully ours, but right now Spain has them and if nothing else we should take them.

2) The AFA is no worse nor no better that the USWP, SEES or iNCi -who had to be bribed to stop letting in citizens deemed terrorist, time to move on and lose the Unity vote.

3) The tax and economic policies put in place by Kemal and the Pfeiffer Loyalist do two things 1) makes the ruling class rich 2) keeps America and her citizens poor.

K1tho Day 1,922, 13:48

voted, good luck in the elections....
we, as AFA, want to have a chance to participate in the Congressional forums, let us tell our opinions, discuss with you, and if you don't like it, or see it doesn't fit with the current situations and not for the good of eUSA then you can fairly blame us....
and again vote for the article...
