[ESO] Party President Update - the end of the term.

Day 2,000, 02:56 Published in United Kingdom Poland by Ando Calrissian

Dear Party Members and Party Poopers,

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin; into the future. A month has passed since I rolled my sleeves up and squeaked defiantly that I would step into the shoes of the last ESO president and lead us to a bright new dawn.

Or at least, that is how I choose to remember it. The reality is a tad more prosaic and involved much grumbling on my behalf that as no-one else was willing to take the position, it better be me. I didn't make any flashy promises or rousing speeches, and looking back on the past month I can see with hindsight that it wasn't exactly a term deserving of overdone pomp anyway.

...but I thought I did a decent job. And I'm happy with what we have achieved this month as a party.

The Next President!

Before I cast my eyes over the month that has passed, we need to consider the future; the next Party President elections are on 15th May and this party both deserves and needs a candidate who is active. I won't lie; there is a temptation for me to run again but I am away a lot over the next month and will also be looking to cut down on my eRepublik time.

...so, please, if you think you can give this party some leadership and most importantly your time then please candidate NOW.

I will be on hand to offer any support that I can give throughout your term and I know there are many others in the party who have been very supportive of me and that I know will be happy to help you in the job as well.

A Brief Recap of the my Term

Don't worry: I'll spare you any gushing words of self-promotion as that really isn't my thing and my mother already knows how awesome I am. It should suffice to say that I turned out to be neither the best PP in this party's history, nor the worst. That is good enough for me!

My manifesto was short and consisted of three general points, listed in order of decreasing importance:

1. Increase community and retention;
2. Increase ESO media presence;
3. Maintain Top 5 status.

On the first, I claim a very small victory. At the time of the last elections, the ESO feed was essentially a private party for Emergy and myself; now there is a core of five or six members who have been posting with more regularity. I thank you all! Keep it up and let's add another 10 next month!

I also want to thank Hugh Jardon and the Independent Alliance congressmen for their assistance around the time of the congress elections. We won together! Even combined, 3rd place in the elections was more than I could have hoped for and having that fresh blood on the feeds for even a few days was rejuvenating!

On the second point, again, the smallest of victories. There has been an ESO article in the top-20 on most of the days this past month. Admittedly some of these have been giveaways but every little helps, I guess. It's a start! I encourage the next PP to continue the Eat Some Omelette campaign in game as, even though the take-up has not been as large as I hoped, it's important to have the letters E., S., and O in the media.

Plus, it's just a really nice thing to do - and we are nice.

On the last point, we have not only maintained our Top 5 status but have just about improved and are now sitting in joint 4th position. This is a victory because, once again, we have lost some good members this month who have needed to move abroad for MU reasons, yet our member-count is about the same as it was. Parties come and go, rise and fall, but ESO does retain that base of loyal players; we are nothing if not stable. Whilst we have not recently shown the same knack for recruitment as other parties, which explains why the likes of OneVision, WRP, Independent Alliance, etc, can grow so quickly in relation to us; still we do stand before them as an example of what retention and loyalty can achieve. In time, these other parties will (I hope) grow a larger and more solid base of members who have stuck with them for months and maybe years, and they will be stronger for it. Until that day, we will be a constant presence at the big boy's table!

Anyway, I should leave it there because I didn't want this article to drag on so long and I'm not really saying anything of importance or interest...

I will just say one more thing: we have stopped the rot! This party does not have to wither up slowly and die. Most of our listed members continue to play the game. Most of our members still vote. This party has resources, both in terms of wealth and in terms of player power. We can still achieve something in this game, whether it's on our own or combined with a fellow party.

We are still awESOme.

It's been fun! 😃

Love, as always,
Ando

PS: The winners of the trivia competition in the last Eat Some Omelette campaign (which very few people entered) are: Wigibob, Jimmystar, Bob Bloggs, Surferdude, and FightAndProduce. Extra prizes on the way.

PPS: Wayne4PP!

PPS: I'm really looking forward to not having to write official PP articles.
