[eRep] Player "retention" in last 100 days
Janty F
Greeting, citizens of eRepublik,
each week on Tuesday, I write down the number of "active" citizens (whatever that number actually represents in terms of activity, is up to you to decide) in order to follow trend regarding player retention rate and players leaving (or joining) this game.
For now, I can present data for the last 100 or so days (more specifically from Day 4,193 to Day 4,298 = today). I believe there will be no surprise to find out that the player number is slowly decreasing over the time - but how much? Let's see:
In the past 100 or so days, the game has lost around 3 000 of its "active" citizens, meaning 6% of the total population. There were only brief periods of player numbers actually increasing, mostly during the times of huge war between Code and Asteria (and in both cases, the increase was marginal), and especially during August (when people are going for holidays), the numbers have not looked pretty.
We are, on one hand, heading away from the holiday period, expecting some events and people to come back in upcoming months (birthday, Black Friday, Halloween). We can also expect more fighting to gather attraction of players, now that Romania and Serbia are breaking free and more countries hoping to follow them. But will it be enough to slow the decline?
In 100 days, we will see, I guess.
If anyone has data for number of active players before the Day 4,193, please do let me know!
The concerned citizen of eNetherlands

A post-mortem is easier to write than coming up with statistics.
V1 (~2010) was a great (simple, no "waiting", limited number of wars; simple wall etc.) game with a super economy module many many players (with some orgs) & great player retention.
Admin destroyed the economy module give players who had spent gold to get to Guru***** work skills which mad more goods & got higher wages. Admin destroyed this & gave player one 25,000 storage house for any skills...went to 'all war & all pictures. There are more multis than new players.

Nice.
But wtf happened between May and Dec 2010?
It was before I registered, but I heard about eRep 'versions'. Some version was probably not too popular.
I think I found it
http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/V1
Seems lilke the V1 version was taken down in June 2010
That must have been a major blow ...
I remember a time when a new version started that it was impossible to work and get enough food. People did starve and went away. I went away too then.
I guess it was disappointing for many people - after all there are players who are still around and still claim the V1 version was the best and are being nostalgic about it.
Do you know what happend in the end of 2012? I can't seem to find info in the wiki about it.
And it seems like the final 'blow' was there and it's a steady decline ever since.
I am always bad in times. It are just some random dates for me, so I am very unsure about the end of 2012. I know for me it was very disappointing to see the working skill and the specialization in that was gone. Upon that the game became more focused on individuality. The interesting part for me was working together to get the best results. With less players the gold buyers became more and more important and could use more gold too. More and more packs were possible. The need for good special information declined and with that the community became much smaller. Old players dominating all divisions so new players are not that important... And still I am her as a new player of about 14 months. 😉 There are still friends active and even new friends you can find. 😃
I literally started to play during that big drop of 2010 - seems I missed a lot 😃 .
It was the time when erepublik replaced v1 with eRepublik: Rising. Rising can easily be referred to as the most complicated version of erep. Productivity was shifted from health and was shared alongside "happiness". There were 24 "hours" allocated to each player which he/she could spent on working, "studying", and a few other skills. Work module was based on a 10-level skill set, the higher skillset you obtained through "learning", the more wage you would get per hour's work. There were more than a dozen professions to choose from if someone wanted to work in a field, unlike the current option of just working for literally any company you may like. War module had four different types of military skills as well, making it even more annoying. Due to that very module, even the simplest tasks like training and working became a huge mess. No surprise that the number of players fell drastically until they replaced it with the current version.
I am one of the quitters in that period. Took me some 5+ years to remember this game.
Hmm, i could make similar for my country, thanks for idea 🙂
I follow it too for my country, but since we had the "CitizenXXXXXXXX" surge several months ago, our number is mostly stabilizing back to the usual lately.
OMG we have so many active players ?
"active", for sure 😃
Interesting fact
Very informative
so sad that Plato dont want to do anything to make game more interesting again...
And it wouldn't even be that hard to try to do something
Decliningggggg
Holidays time, lets see next month.
Well, holidays combined with some exciting war going on - we do not have many of those
Great job!
Good idea this stats.
in v1 each country had their own currency and only specific country could increase their currency in the market - according this economy model was very good + congress could control currency amount in the world (according this each currency rate was different) economy model was destroyed when Plato made 1 currency for all countries and 1 monetary market - this destroyed the economy model. It is very important point (and no one talk about this). But plato made 1 currency because he want to increase gold price and to sell gold for real money. Admins just want to make more money from players but with this step they destroyed economy + they same time they changed reword for true patriot medal (earlier for this medal was 5 gold reward) after changes 1000 cc - according this less gold in economy and more cc so gold price Plato increased with this and could sell more gold for real money... there where other important changes but as i see to long comment can be from my side... 🙂
It's over 9000
What a spectacular amount of votes in such a short time!
When is birthday? Did I miss it? 😃
