Weekly Power Rankings S2 #2; Peace in Pieces

Day 2,118, 22:35 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

Welcome to Season 2 of Weekly Power Rankings!

Anyway, this, for all you newer players, is the Weekly Power Rankings! It's where I dissect the week in review, and show who pulled off great feats and deals, and which countries didn't do as well as they'd hope to. It's not just a warfare analysis, though that's a big part of it, but there's also noting treaties and long-term security, not just short-term happiness.

Various house rules: don't be a prick. I won't judge your opinion if you don't force it upon me, so I ask the same of you.

And in regards to that green country north of Greece, when they do well it's Macedonia, and when they suck it's FYROM. Got it? 😛

Without further ado, let's get started! 😃

WINNERS

1 (NR) Bulgaria

TL😉R: Congress secured, securing congress for Norway, Sweden, and Finland

Sometimes all it takes is the extra tad of spice to make the dish magnificent. For Asgard, Bulgaria was the sprinkle of paprika and cinnamon to blow the Baltics out of this world. Despite Asgard and the three Baltic states roughly being on par with each other, the ACT states have been able to control the far north due to their stronger damage pool, having that extra bit to tilt the tables their way. Bulgaria's airstrike changed all that. Following a cardiac battle in Trondelag, Bulgaria has been able to secure a two-province chunk of Norway, the easiest regions to hold, while allies hold the western and eastern territories. Lithuania still holds northern Norway, but with a couple more victories, Bulgaria will have a nice temporary home.

2 (3) Croatia

TL😉R: Successful move into Slovenia, trisecting Slovenian empire

The campaign's gone so swimmingly, it's a question as to why this hadn't been done sooner. Combined with French, Italian, and Swiss support, Croatia has made its entry into the Balkans and Bosnia's wipe from Europe worth the effort and struggle. Although wiping Slovenia would perhaps have been a great victory, with Serbia chasing in Croatian home regions it became infeasible. However, Croatia has made its battles in Slovenia count, taking Slovenian Littoral and Veneto after tough campaigns. With an RW in the former, Croatia would have a Slovenian wall blocking Serbia from wiping them in Europe, though a defeat in Croatian home regions is all but inevitable. Being able to block Slovenia from Italy and rub it in Serbia's face seems like a great victory.

3 (NR) France

TL😉R: Finally winning battles for once, supporting Slovenian empire's downfall

Yeah, a cheapshot. But with a historical reputation of being mediocre at wars (not fully deserved, because Napoleon and HYW), and being relatively weak ingame (again, not fully deserved because of mid-level damage and a babyboom), France has had struggles for the last couple of years. With deals being broken and being occupied by various countries for months at a time, it's hard being a Frenchman. But finally, France had its chance to shine, and took it in a heartbeat. With America drawing fire overseas from Poland, the French have had full ability to war with the Slovenians, taking Piedmont and Lombardy in close fights. France has gone a long way towards supporting its ally to the east, and with Croatia doing well in the Balkans, they may be on a more prosperous route.

4 (NR) Italy

TL😉R: French, Swiss, and Croatian support in liberation

Sometimes, it's great to win by association. How could a nation that's not gained but a single region be at the top five? Why, by getting others to do their dirty work for them! It's been clear for awhile that other than an airstrike away for congress (tried and failed), the only way that Italy was gonna win back a semblance of freedom was by bringing in some friends to help out. Switzerland, also a benefactor of the warring, is one of those friends, but being relatively weak, the two needed somebody else. With TWO coordination at its zenith and Croatia making increasingly bold moves, though, the stage was set for Italy to make its move. Though Italy hasn't made a major push in its attacks, it has held its own regions, and supported the other nations in kicking Slovenia out of it home regions. With the Croatian cork plugging up the path between Slovenia and Italy, liberation is at last a possibility.

5 (NR) Sweden

TL😉R: Liberating all regions, securing friendly borders to the west

Symbiosis. In biology, it's when two species support each other to mutual benefit, and thrive because of one another. In eRep's terms, it's when two countries fight to each other's benefit. Bulgaria's airstrike, as seen by the purple stain on the northern Scandinavian ridge, has been beneficial to the Balkan nation. However, it's also benefited the Swedes. Without Lithuania's full attention on Lithuania, what could have been a group partitioning between Latvia and Lithuania turned into a curbstomp, with Sweden taking back all its regions for the first time in months. With an active front with Latvia, it's unclear whether they will make any gains, but for sure, they're in a much healthier position than a couple of weeks ago.

Honorable Mentions: Norway, Argentina

LOSERS

Dishonorable Mentions: Australia, Russia

B5 (2) USA

TL😉R: Poland can into America, bonuses nullified

This doesn't really count as Poland fighting a war, nor does it count as a great victory for TWO. But while this does little to nothing for Poland, hence their absence from the top, and America has similarly not wasted anything fighting for their regions in vain, it still is America losing region after region. With all damage being diverted to the Slovenian and Hungarian campaigns, it's not surprising that the still smaller alliance isn't able to support America in the back alley invasion. It's not so much losing the regions, however, as it is America losing all its bonuses. With the capital in California, only Hawaii remains connected to the greater empire, with a Mexican friendly occupation tolerated but not giving any benefits for America. Presumably, when the war focuses on Poland, America will get the help it needs, but for now, it's a giver, not a receiver.

B4 (NR) Brazil

TL😉R: Wipe, eviction from South Africa, ggwp

The monstrosity known as Brazil has finally been put in its cage. The grand conqueror of South America and South Africa, the cards stopped turning in their favor, and stopped coming at all in the crucial moments. After years of friendship with Argentina and South Africa securing safety from the south and free regions in the east, it's finally ended. With Argentina, Uruguay, and even once-friendly South Africa battling the Brazilians, and not enough support coming their way, it was all but inevitable for the green menace. With Argentina's growth as a world power and Chile's nullification, there's not much that Brazil can really do to fight other than hope and wait. With Spain, Brazil's only real ally, signed with TWO nations alongside Argentina, the risks of losing the massive stack would be too great, so for Brazil, they have no one coming for them.

B3 (NR) Ukraine

TL😉R: Death from the east and west

The only thing worse than fighting a losing war is being a mere stepping stone for two other nations' war. With a personal war, it at least gives some sort of purpose and worth, even if the motion fails in the end. However, Ukraine's current position is quite tragic. With Hungary's once grand empire destroyed, any ambitions of reaching the Bering Strait involved making it through Ukraine. Similarly, with Hungary's ambitions clear, Russia rushed to take as much Ukrainian land all over again (feels like WWI all over again). Essentially, Ukraine's the colony that both Russia and Hungary want to claim for themselves. It's no surprise that Ukraine is internally split between pro-CoT and pro-TWO forces. Though Hungary's occupation is arguably friendly, it still doesn't help that Ukraine is simply a plateau to fight on. Occupation is still occupation, and for Ukraine, there's no shortage of it.

B2 (NR) Lithuania

TL😉R: Collapse of empire, defeats on all fronts

Even before all the attention that Scandinavia's suddenly received, Lithuania's empire was anything but stable. Its greatest benefit was in its proximity; unlike the empires of the likes of Hungary and Serbia, Lithuania's empire was wide and expansive, but all nearby. Though not as grandiose in appearance, the Lithuanian holdings were easy to hold onto, with friendly Estonia and Latvia providing any assistance necessary to take down Sweden, Finland, and Norway. Of course, the issue was that with three resistance wars and relatively strong ones at that (yes, mobiles fight in Norway on occasion), there were separate issues other than simply distance and expansion. The relative balance in damage was greatly shifted as Bulgaria made its way into Trondelag, landing in the weak Norwegian outskirts, relatively easy to hold. With Bulgaria potentially threatening Lithuania's home regions, both sides quickly blew up the empire. And once more, barring a couple of regions in Nord-Norge and Svalbard, Lithuania is back to square one.

B1 (NR) Slovenia

TL😉R: Trisected, empire in shambles, four nations fighting

Speaking of concise empires, one that most people miss behind the mighty empires of larger TWO is the Slovenian empire. With large chunks of Italy and all of Switzerland under their belt, it's much more similar to Lithuania's empire to anything that the larger nations have, since it's a regional empire, not daring to stretch any further, preferring to consolidate and hold their bonuses safely. And similar to Lithuania, it's been absolutely torn to shreds. It may be surprising to see that Slovenia has actually taken the initiative against France and Italy. However, it feels like little room for comfort. Slovenia is in no fear of wipe, as Serbia is out to protect their northern neighbor. However, the Slovenian empire dying is a major possibility, with Switzerland retaking a couple of regions and its weapons bonus, France and Croatia holding hands across northern Italy, and the Italian government refusing to lose any of its hard-fought regions. With Slovenia cut off from its empire, it would not be surprising to see Italy and France clean up the rest of the fallen empire, cutting Slovenia back down to size.
