The Quest for Sanity in Politics

Day 560, 03:23 Published in Australia India by DonMogul

It's been said that the quest for sanity and truth is the noblest occupation of man, but there are dragons lurking in the Dark Forests of Politics. And the names of these dragons are "Childish" and "Deliberate Distortion" and "Sheer, Wrongheaded Idiocy." Our dear politicians in Australia have in recent times bravely sallied forth to do battle with these dragons while they run our great country. It is with deepest regret that I must inform you that the dragons won.

Okay enough 'jokes'. Its time to get down to business.

I am seriously reconsidering my plans for my future in this New World.

I left Australia so that I could fight for the freedom of QLD. After the successful liberation of QLD I then chose to travel around the world fighting my way up to Colonel, after which I planned to re-join Australia and help out in any way I could.

However, taking into account the very childish rants circulating in the Australian media (including the flaming comments below the articles), I have become increasingly disillusioned and frustrated with the incessant and overly juvenile mud slinging going on principally between the "Old Guard" (Preditorian, patti etc) and the "Fresh Blood" (Australian Warlord, icey etc).

I am all for pointing out flaws and mentioning mistakes made in the past by certain people or parties... but due to the lack of maturity in the Australian media, the discussion inevitably degenerates towards the type of conversation one would expect from kindergarten children, such as the one below:

Angry Child One: You made a mistake!
Angry Child Two: Maybe but you did this!
Angry Child One: I did not!
Angry Child Two: You did!
Angry Child One: JERK!
Angry Child Two: LOSER!

And so on and so forth, I am sure that by now you have gained the general idea.

I guess that the article can be briefly summarised like this:

Citizens of Australia. PLEASE I am begging you. GROW UP. Senate or Congress or whatever you want to call it is supposed to be a place of reasoned discourse NOT a 19th century tavern brawl. The media is supposed to be an area where alternative views are discussed in a mature way, it is NOT supposed to be a kindergarten.

I remember the times when Australia was a place of reason... I am afraid to say that is not happening at the moment.

PLEASE RESTORE THE OLD SANITY TO AUSTRALIAN POLITICS!!!!
