The new taxes – How the Government Must React

After the new economic changes a lot of citizens of eRepublik are wondering how this new tax for producing food, weapons and raw materials will change the game.
I want to make two prognoses. These constitute my opinion. If you do not agree, feel free to comment and tell me where I've gone wrong.
1. The first, and most important thing in my upinion, is that the new taxes will have a serious negative effect on military units that employ communes to support their members. Everybody who has a factory knows how expensive is to produce q7 weapons. So the military units of that kind count on WRM donations of Their members. But when these regular donators of WRM see the new taxes, they will realize that if they don't sell part of those donations - they will go bankrupt very quickly. The only logical reaction to these taxes is for the donators to sell a substantial part of what they would normally donate to subsidize the remainder. This is if donation of this sort will continue at all.
2. Now let see what will happen with the funds collected from these taxes. The money will go in the treasure and the Government will operate with it. What will the Government do with this money? My prognosis here is nothing new.. The government will continue to keep this money in the treasury and will use part of it for supplying the players from lower levels. And when good and patriotic Military unit like “Cannon Cockers” ask to get funding the answer will be "No", again.
I hope that in the above prognoses I am proven wrong. I hope also that the Government will use this extra money to create a new program for financing military units. The ruling politicians must be informed that if they invest in military units the players will use the money for creating raw materials and weapons. Weapons that will be used against our enemies. If there no such financing you must know that will be very hard blow for eUSA economic and military power. Sadly, I'm convinced our government will do none of the things I've suggested here.

All we can really do is hope that the government will do the right thing and use this revenue to fund all of the countries MU's equally.

This is the forum discussion. It is in the general discussion section, but many government leaders who have a hand in economic and military policy are fighting, excuse me, debating this topic over there. It can give you some good insight into what they might be planning.
They need to keep in mind that The Cannon Cockers didn't choose independence, we had it thrust upon us. We were the only OMS MU that was compliant with the OMS stipulations and our funding was cut without regard to our situation. Their explanation? The USAF was more important than C4 was. No reason to think they'd choose the USAF over us again 😛
I take no sides in this fiasco. I merely watch with popcorn. 😁
There is no equality in government. Those that deal the most damage and can be controlled completely by the politicians will be the ones that receive the funding.
I honestly don't see how it's a problem to fund the people you trust to fight where and when you need them to.
Everybody gets all uppity when they find out someone's being funded and not using it on important battles / for personal gain.
If someone wants to tank where needed, when needed, and they tank heavily, they SHOULD receive a disproportionate amount of funding, so long as there's very little personal profit.
Yeeee, but Military units with less damage are paing the same taxes like this with the most dmg and what thay get - nothing!
Not to mention some of the foreign MUs that have been based in the eUS to work with our allies (I run a Canadian MU, with our communes in the eUS for the moment).
With no Congress, the eUS situation cannot change unless the admins intervene to change the tax rates, at least not for 17 more days.
I think one thing you overlooked is that some MUs are just going to shut their doors, putting people out of work (who can't afford to work in their own companies now) or, move to a new country with lower tax rates and perhaps better bonuses. Sadly, I think this is going to only strengthen the economies and militaries of some of the eUS's enemies.
I wouldn't worry too much. Our MU will continue to operate as it always has. I will be the benefactor if it comes back down to that. 😉

As soon as we have a congress in a couple of weeks, more likely than not, the tax will be reduced to 1%, like most other countries. Believe it or not, the government isn't trying to stick it to you and steal your money to fund our vacations to Italy.
As the last compliant OMS MU, The Cannon Cockers, as a unit, have reason to be wary of the governments involvement in our financial stability. Hopefully those experiences have given us the foresight to have planned well enough to weather a storm of this magnitude. 17 days at 2.01 USD per factory is a serious financial blow to a self-sufficient MU of our size though.
It wouldn't make much sense to alienate the non-gov MU's in that severe a way, given the current focus on trying to unify our communities and damage, including involving the major MUs in the NSC.
But it doesn't mean that some won't try!
