The Indonesian Empire is No More

Day 796, 19:21 Published in USA USA by Desertfalcon

Once one of the most feared empires in the game, the Indonesian empire lost its final overseas territory earlier today when South Africa seized control of Northern Cape. Earlier in the day Indonesia also ceded control of the Western cape to Argentina to prevent South Africa from taking that region as well. The loss of these two regions signals the end of the once great empire as they are now reduced to just their original territories for the first time since the war module was introduced almost two years ago. While the country will likely remain a significant player in world events their influence has been greatly reduced and with the loss of Northern Cape they've not only lost the ability to attack African regions, but South American regions as well. Today we will take a quick look back at the history of the Indonesian empire and what the recent losses in South Africa mean for the country.

In the early days of beta Indonesia was one of the top three countries in the game and when the war module was released they were quick to show off their military strength. The Indonesian's marched down into Australia and quickly took control of the entire country. From there it was on to South Africa and then eventually South America. A few months later Indonesia and Romania went to war in what came to be known as world war 2 where both empires fought for control of regions in India, China, and Russia where both claimed land. In the end Indonesia won and gained control of much of the regions while PEACE built up quite a presence in Russia. Then with the invasion of the U.S., Indonesia gained North American regions as well which they lost a few weeks later. Indonesia lost all of these regions eventually but still they remain the only country in the game to occupy regions on all six continents (except Antarctica) at one time or another. No other country has ever come close to achieving that feat.

So how did the empire fall? It's hard to pin this on any one event but the fact that Indonesia hadn't grown as much as other super powers over the preceding months was a key reason. Indonesia has fallen out of the top 3 in terms of population and now ranks 11th, only about 100 ahead of Greece. When the percent of world population started to drop it became more difficult for Indonesia to hold onto to their colonies which then began to break free and countries like Australia gained independence while the U.S. pushed Indonesia out of North America during the 100 days war. Still Indonesia had enough power to hold on to most of their empire up until recently. Once Japan let the U.S. in to "restore order" in Asia things quickly went south for Asia. The empire soon lost control of most of their Chinese and Indian regions along with other PHX countries like Iran. This weakened them to the point where they eventually couldn't even hold on to their South African territories and thus there empire crumbled.

One lesson the world can take from Indonesia is that it is vital that an empire keep its percentage of the world population up if it wants to remain relevant. Indonesia though, is not completely dead yet. They still hold their country which is full of very dedicated players and have one of the world's strongest tank based armies in the game. While they may not be able to push people around on a global scale they will remain a significant threat in South East Asia and their tanks will still be able to do a good deal of damage for PHX on other fronts. So to make a long story short, while Indonesia is still around, the Indonesia that we knew from long ago, is no more.
