Spain Losing Its Grip on France

Day 802, 08:47 Published in USA USA by Desertfalcon

In the past couple of days France has managed to come back from being an island nation with one region in Corsica, to having six regions. Yesterday, France was able to regain two regions through resistance wars in Spanish territory and today three more regions fell via conquest wars. France won't be able to take all of their regions back soon though since Poland still occupies a large chunk of the country and the U.S. still holds Brittany. All it will take is a couple of region swaps by Poland to block France off from Spain but at this point in time that would ruin any chance Spain had of invading Britian. This is a huge momentum shift in the Western European theater as up until now the Spanish and the Polish have dominated the French in conquest wars.

The most likely reason for this sudden shift is the fact that many EDEN nations who have had troops stationed in Spain have moved on and the recent resignation of Romania from the EMC and their refusal to send military assistance to the aid of other EDEN nations in battles that don't involve the defense of their original regions. The Romanian president announced this a few days after ago Romania lost two of the regions that they occupied in Bulgaria. The Romanians were upset by the fact that other EDEN members such as the U.S., were spending more time and troops in South Africa and Western Europe than they were helping out Romania. They maintained that the lack of allied support cost them these two regions and because of that they have stated they will only help out allies when their original regions come under attack. The two regions have since been returned to Bulgaria by Serbia.

The long anticipated invasion of Britain also took a big hit with the withdrawal of Romania. Without the help of Romanian tanks and their ground forces it will be much more difficult and expensive to take and hold British regions. It's still possible that the whole incident with Romania will blow over and we could see their troops fighting for EDEN again in a short while however, some also speculate that this could be the first step to Romania withdrawing from EDEN completely. While this is unlikely it is something worth watching in the coming weeks as without Romanian support, the chances of the U.S. ever pushing the button are slim to none.

The Siege of Britain has also stopped which is yet another sign that there won't be any mass invasion in the near future. while there are still enough nations who could keep the siege alive, the cost may be too much to keep giving the Brits a free training war when it's not likely the U.S. will invade any time soon. Over the past few days Sweden has given up their regions in Denmark to Norway so they no longer share a border with the U.K. and with Spain losing control of Northern France they likely won't be able to join in the siege. This just leave Poland and Canada, but Poland has been relying on region swapping with Spain to get access to the U.K. so if Spain loses those regions Poland is out of the picture as well. The U.S. could enter the fray but it doesn't appear that those who decide the military policy of the U.S. want to invade the U.K. that bad.
