SFP Election Reform: a Clarification

Day 3,705, 20:57 Published in USA Pakistan by Dio Mudd

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. Harcourt Fenton Mudd here, and today I'd like to expound upon my proposed changes to the way the Socialist Freedom Party’s elections are held.

I’m going to try and keep things as concise as possible. In my article announcing my candidacy for SFP Party President, I proposed that in addition to elections being held through the SFP forum, as they normally are, they also be held via the in-game party feed. In this article, I’m going to attempt to walk you through how I imagine this working. Because it’s the election with the most complexity, we’ll be using the congressional election as an example. So, lets begin:

Come the 16th, as is mandated by the SFP’s constitution, a congressional call will be held. The purpose of the congressional call is to see who is interested in running for congress. As is normal, a thread will be created on the forum for this purpose. In addition to this, a call will also be held in the party feed. Players who are interested in running can comment either in the forum or in the feed or both if they’d like. The names of those who declare solely through the feed will be listed in the OP of the forum’s congressional call. When a new candidate declares intent to run, either through the forum or feed, an updated list of candidates will be posted to the feed. A person who wishes to declare intent to run via the feed can do so either by responding to one of the congressional call related post or by creating a new post.

Congressional call ends and primaries begin on the 20th. During the primaries, players are allowed to vote for up to five of the congressional candidates. A person who’s running for office cannot vote for themselves. Like the call, the primaries will be held on both the forum (as usual) and in the feed. When the time comes, the list of the candidates running will be posted in the feed. Those who wish to vote can do so either in the forum or by commenting in the feed. Voting can be done either by creating a new post or by responding to a post related to the primaries. To ensure all feed votes are properly counted, the person running the election will announce via the feed when a feed vote has been added to the total number of votes.

So, if Player One, Player Two, and Player Three vote through the feed, the person running the election will post something like, “Player One, Player Two, and Player Three’s votes have been added to the total” when Player One, Player Two, and Player Three’s votes have been properly counted and added to the total. Votes made through the feed will be posted in the OP of the forum’s election primary thread.

Forum voting will be done as it normally is. Votes made through the forum will be announced through the party feed. So let’s say Bob cast a vote for Bill, Patrick, Avery, Kate, and Scott on forum, a post will be made in the feed announcing that Bob voted for Bill, Patrick, Avery, Kate, and Scott.

Every so often, the list candidates and the number of votes they currently have will be posted to the feed.

The election ends on the 23rd. On the 24th, the in-game list of candidates is properly ordered. After the congressional election is over, an article will be written listing who ran, who voted and who they voted for, and which platform each candidate and voter choose to announce their run or vote on.

Harcourt Fenton Mudd
