Part 3: A Contrast in Context, False Promises

Day 264, 13:21 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Dishmcds

As he walked back to his flat, he sat in amazement at current difficulties. As a country, they were going in different directions. Something needed to unify them.

He sat and went over all the current government programs, looking at what had been done to a once great nation. He hadnt been involved in politics very long here in the UK, but he was feeling the excitement more and more. Finally, it seemed as if we were heading to some sort of opposition. He sat down to draft his first speech, which he was scheduled to give in front of the House of Commons tomorrow. They had finally been awarded a permit for demonstration, which was a small victory in and of itself. At least those in power were willing to listen to something.

"A leader without opposition is not a leader at all, but rather a dictator in disquise."

It was now flowing from his pencil. He started by taking small excerpts from the Government program, and simply expanding on them, section by section.

"As far as economics, they promise a minimum wage and workers schemes, yet by doing so they will directly be telling companies what they can and cannot pay. They talk about interference when necessary, yet they further aim to restrict who can and cannot obtain success.

Then, they turn and raise taxes on gifts. They did so under the thin veil of protecting domestic companies, while failing to mention to the general public that those same taxes apply to domestic companies as well. If asked, they'll tell you they're refunded. What they probably wont tell you is that more than likely they only refund taxes for companies they feel benefit the UK, leaving anyone with ambition out in the cold.

They also claim to set goals for inflation, GDP, and employment. Those goals, much like Congressional proposals, have yet to be seen."

Then he turned towards the political aspect of their programme.

"They turn to say that if elected, they will continue to make the eUK a safe place to live. They won't say how, or with whom. Once again, simply proves that things are way too close to the vest within our government, and you must be in their ranks to achieve anything there. If you look at the current positions, the current President, Vice President, MoD, both MoFA positions, the Minister of Finance, Minister of Trade, and so on are all current regime members. It seems to me that the current administration gave up on Unity a long time ago. Partisanship throughout the Government only ensures that the will of the people will not be heard. So far, we have no constitution, yet we have honours, a Chief of Police, a Congressional Code of Conduct (to only further conceal what they do behind closed doors), and employment strategy, and so on. You would think if they cared about their own population, they would ensure that the population had a say."

He then turned towards a bit of recent news.

"Recently, they posted "an open Commons" legislative bill. They claim this will make things transparent. What we see now is that they post things in the Government Policies section once the vote is completed, yet no one has the ability to know what has been going on.

What this bill will do will not change that. It will simply allow the Government to create another branch, which is also duly repetitive, yet still allows the normal citizen no access to the Commons. This bill has sorely missed it's mark, and it's a mark that both members of the current regime and it's opposition have voiced support for. This will end up being nothing more than wasted time, further putting off what's truly important."

Alas, it was very late, and he could feel his eyes starting to fail him. He would certainly finish this tomorrow morning, before they all left for the rally. He was certain there'd be supporters from both sides amongst the crowd, but the fervor was growing in the population that they were simply not going with what the people wanted. They were certainly going for personal ambitiions, moreso than the desires of the people they governed. They were not governing, they were ruling. And their iron fist seemed ready to grow rust.

Next time, we'll be writing about the events that took place during the rally. Unfortunately the government sent black suits to the editor's office, and prevented him from writing about fire, or anything related.

So, until then, the streets will burn. It will show that the people will not be taken down a path that will lead to the downfall of their own civil rights.
