Kiprop wins Brussels marathon

Day 1,412, 07:51 Published in Belgium Belgium by Cooke4444
Kenya has become number 1&2 in the Brussels marathon. Paul Kiprop got the gold medal.

Okay time in Brussels

Kiprop needed 2h14'51" for his marathon. The second Kenyan, Kosgei, followed 2' later. Tontjinski (Belarus) completed the podium.
Brussels isn't the easiest of marathons. There are a lot of hills and under today's circumstances (over 20°, no wind), there wasn't expected a good time. And certainly no WR as last week in Berlin by Makau.

No good times for women

With a time above 3h, there wasn't a real competition. Three women for the Netherlands on the podium, led by Mariske Dute.

Ladies run

For some women the most important race was the ladies run. With the beginning of the cross-country season, Sigrid Vandenbempt and Veerle Dejaeghere took their first challenge. Vandenbempt won... this time. Hopefully she can maintain this form in the winter, so there will be finally a real battle for the crosscup-title.

Next stop in athletics

Cross-country is coming up, next to several marathons (f.e. Chicago). We'll have to wait till march for the world championships indoor in Istanbul. But lots of athletes are already thinking about London 2012.
