Haunting Photos Show Where Refugee Children Sleep

This is Iman’s third day in the hospital bed. The usually happy, rambunctious two-year-old has pneumonia and a chest infection.
Mohammed, age 13, still dreams of becoming an architect, even while lying in a hospital bed. Originally from Aleppo, he has seen his favorite buildings completely destroyed.
Back home in Damascus, Ralia,7, and Rahaf, 13, lost their mother and brother to a grenade. For a year, they’ve slept on the streets of Beirut, where they fled with their father.
Amir was born a refugee. Although he is almost two years old, his mother says he has never spoken a word. She believes he was traumatized in the womb.
For Walaa, 5, bedtime brings on memories of attacks in her hometown of Aleppo. Her mother uses pillows to build forts for her, trying to prove that nighttime is nothing to be afraid of now.
While the adults make plans to evade the authorities in Hungary, Ahmed, 6, sleeps in the grass. After his father was killed in northern Syria, Ahmed has been walking with his family, carrying his own bag.
One-year-old Sham is cradled by his mother, only inches from the closed Hungarian border. The day before, they narrowly missed getting onto a train taking refugees to Austria.
A bomb destroyed Lamar’s home in Baghdad, but she still remembers her toys. With her family, she crossed the sea from Turkey into Hungary and now sleeps on a blanket in a cold forest.
Two-year-old Fara left behind her home as well as her true love—soccer. Her father tries to keep her love for the sport alive by crumpling anything he can into a ball.
Mahdi is a year and a half old and has only known war and flight. While he sleeps, hundreds of refugees around him argue with Hungarian police at the border. When he wakes up, the police will assault the refugees with tear gas and water cannons.
HAUNTING PHOTOS SHOW WHERE REFUGEE CHILDREN SLEEP
Most of what we’ve seen from the mass movement of refugees and migrants in the Middle East is chaos—crowds of people crossing seas in too-small boats, then clamoring to be allowed through border checkpoints, and sometimes running from guards armed with guns and water cannons. In the middle of this cacophony, photographer Magnus Wennman turned to the quiet moments.
The photos in Wennman’s series Where the Children Sleep show the individual suffering of the youngest refugees. The project recently won third place in the People/Stories division of the 2016 World Press Photo Contest.
More than 2.4 million Syrian children are living as refugees, according to UNICEF. That’s a little more than half of the total number of refugees who have fled Syria, and many more migrants have left other Middle Eastern countries to avoid conflict, poverty, and famine.
Many of these children carry their belongings and walk for long stretches at a time, others work menial jobs to earn money for their families. Plenty of them are sick and hungry. They’ve lost their parents, their homes, and their chance for an education. And as Wennman shows us, these children have even lost a privilege many of us take for granted—a peaceful bedtime.
In an interview with CNN last fall, Wennman acknowledged that the politics of the refugee crisis can be difficult to understand. “But,” he said, “there is nothing hard to understand about how children need a safe place to sleep."

Mos he burr po na nzine zemrat se femite skan faj 🙁 qit diqka ma qeshe 🙂
realiteti momental 😒
If they were truly refugees, they wouldn't travel thousands of kilometres to Europe. They would flee to Syria's neighbours. Otherwise, they're just economic migrants and don't deserve any help.
prove that you are a human.
I solve lots of CAPTCHAS in eRepublik.
Look at the ap for Syria's neighbours, truly peacefull places.
These children really look like economic migrants...oh wait..they might even be terrorists
Those photos were made to manipulate the public opinion into letting more migrants into Europe. You could get similar pics of poor European children nobody cares about.

It's a great place to live,it's only propaganda don't worry.
Everything it's just a lie,in fact they have a great life there, there is no war, just some propaganda. For real?
Saudi Arabia and Iran are big peaceful countries just a few hundred kilometres from Syria. Why don't 'refugees' go there? O wait, they won't get to live for free there, sucking money from the social security and giving nothing in return but trouble.
You know that is what has been said about all eastearn europeans...it's the same ideas/logic.
But yeah..there was no war in europe.
So if Poles,Hungarians, czechs, slovaks, romanians, etc.went to other countries for better salaries, that is ok...but if some people run for their lives and not having their children killed that is not ok.
Isn't this hypocritical?
It's a mutual transaction. Eastern E.U. members have opened their markets to the remaining member states. There's nothing wrong with internal migration. It cancels income inequalities within the E.U.
And yes, there IS a war in Europe, in Ukraine. Poland has already taken many true refugees from that country.
Zordacz is more than right. These "refugees" goal is to reach Sweden, Germany, UK, Holland and rich european countries, at least that s what they declare in interviews and their banners they hold in the protests they hold in borders. A real refugee would be thankful and stay in every country offered, but these "refugees" refuses to stay in Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia , they all want west europe, canada and USA. Also 80% of these refugees are mans, guys 16+ and older mans, i barely see childs and womens when the tv shows them. You are albanian like me mo green and you have it fresh the memories of Kosovo war, albanians from all over europe, usa, australia, canada left their jobs, studies and lives there where they lived and came to figjt in Kosovo for the liberty of their country, only the old people, women and childs came here in Albania as war refugee, as i had a family as guests too.
So i want to say albanians didn t ran away like pussies during war like these brave syrian and other mans are doing. And the most important that i wanted to say is that their muslim brothers from Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrein does not give a fuck of their muslim blood brothers of syria that are dying, although they swim in gold they have no time to care for them but they mostly care to buy european cluvs like man.city, psg ,etc.
It is not europe duty to host these peoole as they are not even european, they have different traditions, different lifestyle, different religion from europe and different language and europe is much more far away to go than these arab countries that i mentioned.
So before calling me anti muslim, barbar, devil, kafir or whatever find me an answer about this which i said and then i will agree with you.
think most of them are persian. i dont think any sane man would fight in that war or life in that country.
as to refugee most nations is signatories to a global refugee convention think its the Hague convention. All signatories have to have procedures in order to accept refugees and determine their refugee status and if their indeed refugees to give them citizenship.
that is your own laws and you are bound to that laws.

😒 🙁 🙁
which fault is this ???
that's the MAIN QUESTION !!!
🙁
who "created" these refugees
The world sucks big time.
They are chidren and desere a future.
Thanks for sharing, sometimes a dose of reality is also needed in a game. Children deserve to grow up in safety, it is appalling that we can't provide this safety for refuges in Europe (I won't even mention Trumpistan). So we have to fight for the rights and freedom of others, hoping that one day they will fight for us, when we need it the most.
Hmm, a topic that should have never had the chance to come out. Wars, Refugees, killing of women children, old people, for the sake of what so some would get more fat in dollars....common people the same politics we are implementing on a daily bases in our virtual world here... think about, who's fault it is and just to remind you, where all the RL money is going in this game.... Here is your answer just in virtual mode.
i hope, there's no weakness
