Day 536, 20:10 Published in Australia Australia by Ranger Bob

G'day Australia

I would like to let you know where we are currently at with E-Pub, and to announce some up and coming fun contests for the people of eAustralia (and indeed, the world!).

When I first discussed the notion of E-Pub with mates on IRC a couple of months back, I don't think we had any idea how the concept would take off, and how much support we would gain. We ran a couple of very minor contests on IRC and gave folk prizes in the form of gold donations - and then of course, Omegle TPOP, which produced some great responses from people who had fun and earned even more prizes.

Then, a group of us started to get serious about the notion. Maybe E-Pub could be made more fun - maybe if we had regular competitions, it would help new players adjust to the game and the e-rep world, meet new people and offer the chance to give people a bit of a leg up in starting off.

So, E-Pub Enterprises was formed, and the six people who agreed to become partners each donated a significant amount of their own resources to do so. Following this, we looked at ways to build our resources, and agreed that the money we made would go back in to E-Pub for contests. If any of us wanted other companies etc for our own profit/reasons (outside of E-Pub), this was fine, but E-Pub was to be more than this. It was to be a concept if you will, something that brought out the Aussie of eAustralia and maybe even show the world how much fun we could be.

Now, I feel compelled somewhat to respond to particular issues. Firstly, yes as part of the recent RW and WG's, E-Pub moved to capitalise on a couple of things. Prices for weapons as everyone knows here in eAus have been experiencing significant inflation - heck I recently saw q1's up for 14AUD plus. To make cheaper products, yes it is true that we sought cheaper RM from overseas. However, I do not believe this harms eAustralia, as the end product (ie, Weapons) will be sold here in Australia at a considerably lower price. Tax from these sales will go to Government, people will be able to afford purchasing weapons. Admittedly the Iron market will not be thrilled at this choice - but as previously stated by others external to e-pub, this has not had a negative impact on worker wages.

Secondly, yes a number of people involved in E-Pub hold positions in Government (me included). But as has been said before - and, I hope demonstrated with competitions to date - E-Pub aims to run contests that will give these profits back to the community. So, who is actually losing out here? We are not using our positions to do this - frankly, i'd be doing this regardless of the election result, and regardless of whether my partners had agreed to be a part of this or not. Because we think it is worth doing.

Anyway, on to bigger and brighter things. With respect to Derek Apollyon and his current competition WordCraft Arena, we have refrained from running a contest right now. However, in a couple of weeks when things quieten down and we've managed to clean the walls of WCA with the blood of those authors who are 'cut' from the competition, we will be holding a new competition. And, we have plans in motion for a number of others.

Hope to see you in E-Pub soon!
