For the Love of Wolf: A MEK Speaks

Day 2,884, 06:51 Published in Romania Portugal by Maali Akalka Aki

This is the first in a series of interviews with members of the Mobile Elite Korp- known throughout the eWorld as MEK

Our first interview is with MEK Commander Pisco Soares.

1. When and why did you join MEK, and what other MU’s were you in before that?

I arrived here after quitting TIF's (Tuga Intervention Force) command, as I was in need of a different challenge and some time off of coordinating things. I was getting tired of being the locomotive of a train that was kinda jammed.

So I talked to TIF's soldiers and left them for what I was thinking would be a quiet e-existence. Wrong move on that... ; ) I suppose I’ve been in MEK for almost two years.

2. Are you mostly a fighter, or do you also enjoy other parts of the game?

I'm a fighter. I don't have the patience to wait for my strength to grow! I go to the gym every day, but I never turn down a decent fight. But I'm not the biggest tanker, because my VISA is not for feeding Plato's needs.

But what I enjoy most in eRepublik is the possibility of having and managing solid friendships with many players. If I wanted to build enormous empires all alone, I would rather play a Civilization kinda game. Which I did for a long time, by the way.

Pisco’s Profile

3. Will you tell us a little about who you are in RL?
I am 43 yo, married, with 2 kids. I'm a completely pacifist guy that works with computer software, and am fully committed to my beliefs. I coordinate food supply to nearly 800 people in my parish. Now you can see the basis of the idea of the MEK Charity project.

4. Tell us a little about the MEK Charity project?

I'm a lender in a site of Micro Credit. And that site has launched a campaign of bring a friend to us, and you receive $25 to lend to someone. And your friend gets $25 to lend too! So with a minimum effort we could lend $50 to some project to help some needy real persons in the real world.

We have achieved 24 members with total loans of $1.225. It wasn't what I expected, but it was a nice figure. This campaign is off, at the moment, since I was accused of advertising external sites. The project and a quarrel with admins have raised me 3 FP… but Plato's the boss in eRep.

So MEK Charity is halted too. If you wanna know something more about it, PM me... or this article will be removed too. ; )

5. Would it surprise your RL friends that you are in an elite MU?

Not particularly of an Elite MU. But they keep saying, Why do you waste so much time with computer games if your work is computer software!

6. What was the best MEK battle you like to remember, and why?

I don't really remember any particular MEK battle. Why... because I see every battle as the last one. If I go to battle it is to win. Recently I can't go without referring to the commitment that many MEKs had in this Base Burnout thing. I was particularly surprised by the response of some of our soldiers. We achieved 17th eWorld place thanks to that!

7. What would you like to see MEK do to celebrate the next MEK Day?

There will be a committee formed to decide that. I don't really care much about MEK Days. In my opinion, all the times that we decide to fight for something are MEK Days. And we have had a lot of opportunities to do that!

Leaderboard, Day 2883

8. What do you think of MEK Commander Pisco Soares?

I'm a suspicious guy to talk about that guy in particular!

9. What is the best thing about MEK?

The best thing about MEK is that I don't see us as a Portuguese MU, we are an international MU. That was wrongly understood by the rest of the Portuguese Community. They expected MEK’s full support of PT interests. And that wasn't happening, I must say so... But under my command, I think that Portuguese opinion about MEK has been changing.

10. What would you say is MEK's mission?

MEK's mission... good question.

I could say that it should be the keeper of democracy... and so on and so on.

But no, for me, MEK must be a place where people can be without fearing to show their positions about everything, where different RL nationalities fight side by side for common goals. Something like NATO. I see MEK as an alliance of soldiers where everyone counts. But one’s belief can't be more important than someone else’s belief.

I want the rest of the eWorld to know exactly what to expect from us: Consistency, Loyalty and, in what it depends on me, Ethics.

And to be honest, I think that we are near to this aim of mine.

11. Is there anything else that you think people should know about you?

Just that, almost every day I think that I should stop playing eRep. Every day that I try to get our soldiers to participate on MEK initiatives like MEK Charity, MEK Stars, and so on... and I don't have the response that I expected to have, I think on quitting. But then something happens and I keep struggling for MEK's motto: There's No ME on MEK, Just MEK.

Thank you for your time and thoughtful answers, Pisco Soares!
