Day 953: The Day the New World Burned

Day 5,618, 23:53 Published in USA Netherlands by eDino WikiEd

It was many, many years ago. It was in the days when Gods still walked among us mere mortals.
Day 953 began just like any other day in the New World. Just a normal change over from 952 to 953 with all everyday actions (working, training) becoming available once again.
Everything was normal until later that afternoon, when odd things began to happen.

Twas the night before July 1st when all through the game,
Not a creature was stirring, not even GLaDOS;
The Q5 weapons were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Necrosis would soon be there;
The two clickers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Lana danced in their heads;
And Claire in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just blew all our gold on useless crap,
When out on the lawn arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the Q5 bed to see what was the matter.

It was just after 17:15 on Day 953 when Gods of the New World were banned, one by one:

In addition to the widespread bannings, the official newspaper eRepublik Insider was hacked and chaos ensued. The name and owner changed every few minutes, with new articles, all lulzy and sometimes sick graphic, appearing just as fast. In addition, the name of the paper was changed multiple times.

Many newspapers were moved from one account to another. Some newspaper's names were changed to insulting names.

Chaos lasted for over 6 hours. It was only after 23:30 that New World was shut down.

Some 11 hours later, New World returned on 1st July.

There were many comments in the press. Many people wondering how could something like this happen, while others celebrated (especially in USA).

On July 1st, Robert Loggia wrote a poem to commemorate the occasion, and many in the United States used to tell this tale to their children as they tuck them into bed every June 30th. The poem contains references to several prominent American citizens and two British citizens of its time, one of eRepublik's founders and his lover, a few older citizens, and a party/terrorist organization.

It can be found in Loggia's newspaper, and it is titled A Visit from St. Necrosis. (part of which I have used in this article).
