David Allenkey for Congress on Day 1740

Day 1,734, 07:15 Published in Ireland United Kingdom by David Allenkey

As everyone can tell by looking at me, I am relatively new to the eRepublik world. To this point, I have mainly done what is asked, and tried to be the best possible citizen that I can be for eIreland. I have asked questions to better myself, and to help myself gain a further grip on my purpose, and the purpose of those around me.

In the questions that I've asked, one of the biggest pertains to the status of eIreland's ongoing battle with the eUK. I, like many citizens around me, asked what the purpose of trading Dublin and Louth to the eUK for Scottland was. The following was what I received as a broken down version of the relationship.

In order to create a peace treaty with the eUK, eIreland was forced to give up Dublin and Louth. We were given Scottland, and a peace treaty in return.

The benefit of this for eIreland is that we were able to have peace with our neighbor, which makes sense. We do not need to have an ongoing battle with our neighbor if it is unavoidable. The acquisition of Scottland, as far as I can see, does not do anything for us other than even out the territorial balance in a size perspective. eIreland already has Cork and Mayo for cattle, so the acquisition of Scottland did nothing for our economy. It seems that the only thing that gaining Scottland did for us was force us to commit resources to fighting off the eUK in resistance battles to maintain ownership of the Peninsula.

The benefit for eUK seems much more advantageous on their side. They received Dublin, our capital, which although economically to us did not have value (Wexford provides Iron), it is of extreme value to the people of eIreland. It is our capital, and a region of motivation. eUK also received Louth, which gave them a region that provides fruit, a resource that they did not have access to before. The two regions they received also geographically split our small but strong country in two.

The question I would pose to our country leadership is, why? Why would we allow them to take Dublin and Louth from us, with the only real benefit that we receive in return being peace? Why would we not take the opportunity to improve our country? If this was about improving relations with the eUK, would they not be open to allowing us to strengthen our country at the same time they are strengthing theirs? Was this the only proposal that they would accept?

After looking at the opportunities, and what would improve both sides, I wonder why it was not negotiated with a stronger emphasis on improving eIreland. The following is what I see.

The eUK have many resources that are available in multiple regions. Based on the sacrifices we made, I would ask if they were asked to do the same. Was it not possible for us to gain oil as a resource during the negotiations, by gaining the East Midlands from eUK? This would have been easily granted with a few slight changes to the policy in place.

The following is the version of the two countries that I see in an ideal situation, with the most benefits to both. Am I wrong?

eIreland - Cork, Wexford, Shannon, Mayo, Northern Ireland, Scottland, North East of England, Yorkshire & Humberside, East Midlands
eUK - South West of England, South East of England, London, East of England, Wales, West Midlands, North West of England, Dublin, Louth

Under that scenario, there is no disadvantage to the people of England, and a great economic advantage to us.

I am running for congress on day 1740 so that things like this will be pointed out, and the questions will be asked.

I am David Allenkey, and I approve this message.
