So, today I came home from work and logged in to do my clicking and the basic stuff I've been doing because death did NOT become me...and I went to set one of the Blood Brethren party members as presidential candidate for a couple of days. It's just something that I do randomly to give them all a hug. They are all special and I want them to feel that way.
Anywho...I go to slap the presidential candidate thingy on John Jay today and the game would just not let me click that stupid button for anyone. I'd been reading all of the candidate articles today and chuckled to myself as I clicked the button to put myself up as the candidate for PotUS. Surely this will make a few people have chest pains!!! Then I shouted and linked to the candidate page and went and logged onto IRC to chill awhile.
I'm laughing my butt off at Dumb Emma on my shout becoming my campaign manager of sorts, swearing to make sure I'm elected so that I can enjoy a month of headaches and deciding that my entire cabinet should consist of faces of ecstasy. She is just too damn cool for this game sometimes.
I'm in my office chatting with some people I respect very much and people are asking me if I'm really running for PotUS. Of course not! I know there are a ton of reasons why I shouldn't/couldn't and I'm grown enough to accept that.
For instance, I can't be online all day long anymore. Back when I started playing the economy took a dive and people started getting laid off left and right, and I was one of them. It was a year and a half before I finally found full time work. I was able to be online most of the day. I was always here it seemed and available. I can't do that anymore. Between my family, my full time job and my college there is not enough of me left to sit here 10 hours a day.
Another reason...I have avoided the political aspects of this game like the plague. I served one term in Congress, spoke up when necessary and decided I was too tired to deal with the crap I was seeing and pretty much "meh'd" and called it an experience and left it like that. Oblige asked me to be a deputy before he was elected PotUS when he served as SoD, and I was not able to be online very much at all at that time and "meh'd". I just didn't have the passion for anything after the eMil split from the government.
I tried to be somewhat active in a party once..saw the way it was going and...you guessed it..."MEH".
So, I don't have an "all around zomg I knows everything and I am God" eBackground. Many would say I am not qualified, and they might be right. So yes, my putting myself up as a candidate was intended to entertain you all in some way, and to get a bunch of laughs for myself in the process.
Then I started to realize that I was doing the same thing I do in real life sometimes, downplaying myself. What the hell for? I specialize in retention, I worked my way up the greatest branch this game has ever seen, the eUS Training Corps, and eventually achieved the honor of commanding it. I've tried to live my eLife and play this game with honor, truth and passion. I feel that I've achieved that. I've hung with the big dogs and laughed with the newbies and I have played with passion for this eCountry.
Our countries biggest problem right now is not our foreign policies, it is our domestic situation. That pink elephant in the room that no one wants to admit is standing there. That huge beast that a string of administrations have fed to the point where it cannot exist anymore or it will squash us all into oblivion. We need to fix this, and NOW.
So I started talking about some of my ideas about what I'd hope to achieve if I ever did run for PotUS. Maybe someone that is actually wanting to run will read them and take them to heart. They do come from a fellow player, and right now we need all of them that we can get. And our current structure and attitude is obviously not working for our citizens.
I think that being a good leader is the ability to put the right people in the right tasks to optimize the performance of the TEAM. There is a reason the PotUS has a cabinet. It isn't so that Joe "zomg I know everything" can get elected and give his buddies shiny titles and in game power. A cabinet is meant to be filled with people that the PotUS chooses to specialize in certain areas, thereby delegating those responsibilities to them. These people should exhibit talents pertaining to those tasks, not just be there because they could supply another 100 votes to get Joe elected.
You choose the right people for the right job, whether you personally like them or not. In the end it's about the team. It's about making sure as many people as possible stay and fight for the eUS. And it's about making sure we do it right.
How do we get them to stay?
RETENTION.
How do we retain them?
We give them some fun and show them that they matter.
Who do we want to stay? I hate those F'n Scooby Doo MU bastards!

We have damn near killed this game by limiting our groups. In order for us to retain as many people as possible we need to retain as many diverse groups as possible so that as many people as possible can find an environment or task that they like. You can "metagame" me all you want but the fact is we can't all fit into your stupid cookie cutter molds, nor do we want to. Different strokes for different folks. It is not rocket science. Sadly, you cannot control everything or you will have nothing left to control but your own right hand. You following me???
But everyone's idea of fun is different....
Yes. And back in the day before we decided that everyone needed to sit in the same Volkswagon and sweat on each other...there were many ways to have fun. More players + more opportunities = more FUN!
We simply have to solve our domestic issues before we can solve anyone else's. You have to love yourself before you can love anyone else, ya know?
Let's focus on US for awhile. Please keep in mind that this is a base idea, not fully formed.
I have always loved the stories of Camelot and King Arthur's Round Table. In the spirit of domestic cooperation I offer you this...
ALL military units deemed to fulfill some basic and equivalent requirements such as basic MU size and ally affiliation will be granted access for their commanding officer to sit at the Round Table.
ALL military units granted a seat at the Round Table will fall under the "official" military of the eUnited States and be granted the same respect as any other Round Table military unit.
The culture and regulations of each Round Table military unit will be respected as individual and cherished, and should not be impeded upon by anyone, not even the PotUS. Citizens should have a right to find a home that suits their personality and play style.
Issues presented by the PotUS will be voted upon by the Round Table unit commanders.
ALL military units will be tutored and supported by the government in setting up communes to stretch supplies while decreasing the need for government funding. No man left behind. All Round Table units will receive reasonable funding to be used as they see fit to improve the quality of their units. Funds MUST be used on/for the unit, not to line some officers pockets.
All Round Table units will support, promote a centralized beginner training program, fully funded by the government. New players will graduate and be eligible to join any unit of their choosing that accepts their level of player. All individual training programs run by units will be honored as successive to the basic training program.
All Round Table units will treat fellow units with courtesy and respect. Any unit creating a hostile and negative environment will be excluded by majority vote of the Round Table. Spats and jibes between brothers is acceptable but you do NOT set their bed on fire with them in it.
In exchange for the above the citizens and the government of this country ask the Round Table military units for the following:
Dedication ~ Loyalty ~ Integrity ~ Truth ~ Honor
It is expected that the Round Table military units will protect against all enemies...both foreign and domestic.
It is expected that the Round Table units will elect a spokesperson, NOT a leader, for each month. Spokespersons can serve in repetition if it is the will of the Round Table units. Said spokesperson will RESPECT the thoughts, opinions and votes of all included units. All Round Table commanders will be considered equal.
It is expected that the Round Table units will consult on eUS military issues.
It is expected that the Round Table units will follow the orders of the PotUS..unless it is deemed by a large majority that the current PotUS elect has exhibited behavior undesirable to the country's future, warranting impeachment.
I know this might seem radical and scary to some people...and maybe some think they might lose their rank or power. It isn't about that. It's about compromise. No one will lose anything, but we will all regain some respect and honor, and we will build a brotherhood of independent, but yet united fighting units.
We are unstoppable when we are organized and in control. We need to spend some time on ourselves before we try to fix everything else. Now is the time for us to work it out.
What could it possibly hurt? We cannot sink any lower than we have. Just think about it.

Except everything you just named are things with no intrinsic mechanical value, nor should respect be given to commanders who don't follow orders.
Words like "honor" are easily bandied about by people who feel the need to justify their roleplaying styles, because, hey, let's be honest. EVERYONE roleplays to some extent.
At the end of the day, however, if someone in a position of responsibility cannot do something as simple as follow orders, they should not HAVE responsibility.
Neither should morons who have proven they can't make good judgement calls while in a given position of authority... and their minions.
Who do I listen to? The proven liars or the citizens who want to work together. Hmmmm....

It's a soldier's first duty to follow orders and leave the bullshit politicing to the elected body to determine if the President et al, are a risk. If a majority opinion concurs that said president IS, said president is removed.
If X, Y or Z MU cannot be relied upon to follow orders, then X, Y, or Z MU should NOT be lauded, they should be reprimanded and disciplined for breach of trust and breach of duty.
What you want is a dream that cannot happen in this game anymore.

In the meantime try to come up with something better than "he who shall not be named"'s political views that have nothing to do with me, not following tyrannical orders, (aka fighting in europe for true allies and not against my country), and "impossible goal" to discredit my ideas for compromise with.
