Belgian champion Albert wins in Kalmthout

Day 1,412, 09:58 Published in Belgium Belgium by Cooke4444

Yeah, cyclo-cross... A Belgian tradition starts again. Albert took the win today.

Former world cup track Kalmthout is a fast-paced race in a forest. Kalmthout is now replaced by Namur in the world cup and it was clear to see in the small number of audience.

But it's the last race before the season really starts in Ruddervoorde for the Superprestige.

Dry, hot, dust

Very hot weather today, so one rider was not expecte😛 Sven Nys. Altough being one of the best riders ever, we could rule him out today. But he showed himself today just after mid-race and was only stopped by a small error. Nys is maybe getting old, he still is the man to beat. He finished 6th, just after his teammate Bastaens. Great ride for the youngster.

Albert's time trial

The race was a chance for victory for +/- 10 riders all the time, but when Albert made his move the final 2 laps, only Mourey, who later on fell, could follow. Good old Wellens couldn't close the gap, so Albert put his good time trial skills to the limit and won with quite a lead for this kind of track.
Wellens second, Meeusen third after a sprint with Frenchmen Mourey.

And Styby?

One person was misse😛 Zdenek Stybar. Still having some problems with his knee, he skipped this one, but probably we can expect him next sunday in Ruddervoorde. See you then for more cyclo-cross news.
