Around the World S2 #2; How to Kill a Country

Day 2,119, 17:27 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

The Sunday edition of the newspaper! Get caught up with all the battles going on today, so you're in the loop!

I won't cover such things as training wars and nations agreeing to swap regions or anything, since those don't have a place in warfare analysis. So if you don't see anything here, assume it's supposed to be happening 😉

The War of the Patriot

Belligerents: USA vs. Poland
Results: More of the same. With damage being diverted overseas, America has avoided potentially expensive battles against Poland, and has conceded to ceding the territory for the meantime. Other than mild flirtation in the first couple of rounds in some of the campaigns, America has avoided doing damage, as Poland quickly and efficiently occupies regions. It's widely speculated that as the Balkan campaign (more below) is wrapped up, there will be a much greater focus on the Polish. As it stands though, it's all anticipation and speculation. But will America get wiped before the focus switch?

The Argentinian Colonial Conquest

Belligerents: Brazil vs. Argentina, South Africa, Uruguay
Results: In the final days, it was all but inevitable. No more of the close, last round campaigns. The Brazilians ran out of juice and accepted their fate. Similar to America, there's too little damage to spread it all the way to Brazil, with campaigns elsewhere taking up all the focus. As the dust cleared up, Brazil is nowhere to be seen, with Uruguay taking Western Cape, South Africa and Russia holding regions in the northeast, and Argentina occupying the rest. It's plausible that Argentina could take out Russia as well, but unlikely seeing the amicable relations between South Africa and the Russians, who have rented the region. It'll also be interesting to see what regions, if any, that South Africa will take. Whatever the case, it's safe to say that Argentina's plans don't involve Brazil coming back anytime soon.

The Scandinavian Scuffle

Belligerents: Finland, Bulgaria, Norway, Sweden vs. Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia
Results: Even without the help they were promised, everything still went just about alright. A lack of communication cut off the German and Danish help that Sweden was all but begging to get, but Bulgaria managed to land in Trondelag anyway, taking the Norwegian territory from Lithuanian hands. With Lithuania distracted against Bulgaria, it's no surprise that Norway was able to win back Sorlandet and Vestlandet, while Sweden's territories are fully restored down to Scania once more. Finland, while not having the amount of success that its allies have had, are holding Estonia and Lithuania off relatively well. Sweden's counterinvasion into Latvia has been a stalemate, neither side able to reach across the waters. Bulgaria's presence, in theory, should make it very difficult for Lithuania to invade Sweden again. With the scary influence behind them, Sweden may be able to ward off a future attack. Lithuania's ridge of land in the north is their last hope for rebuilding an empire.

Spheres of Affluence

This week

Belligerents: Russia vs. Hungary, Ukraine
Results: CoT's resurgence started in the darkest of nights, with America fresh off a humiliating and total wipe. But of course, USA's wipe didn't happen in an instant. It started with Hungary making its move, taking advantage of North Caucasus, which it had already owned through a rental agreement, as well as the Ukrainian regions it already was renting, and swiftly occupied the Russians with Ukrainian support, as well as boosts from the north. And just like how it started, the Hungarian empire was the first to fall, with CoT forces kicking Hungary out of Russia, USA, and finally containing them behind Ukraine. Now, Hungary is out for revenge, going for the same grand empire they held before. Having to attack Ukraine first, it essentially became a race to see who occupied the most Ukrainian territory as it became the battlefield, Ukraine supporting Hungary's occupation while pro-CoT Ukrainians fought against Hungary. Now that Ukraine is wiped, it will be a true duel to see who will own Ukraine.

Operation Crograde
Belligerents: Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Italy, Macedonia, Switzerland vs. Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia
Results: Croatia's true plan has been revealed. With Macedonia invading Serbia, some thought that Serbia perhaps would finally be wiped. However, Serbia quickly kicked Macedonia out, as well as wiping Bosnia from Europe. Albania's refusal to NE Serbia seemed curious at first, but the plan all along was to take down Slovenia, not Serbia. Serbia's ferocious power and expansive influence often allows them to blob, but with Albania still liberated, Serbia is trapped within the Balkan cage. Croatia has made the most out of its situation, on the other hand. Realizing the futility in fighting both Slovenia and Serbia at once, they rushed into Slovenian Littoral and Veneto, then RW'd the former to block Serbia off from chasing, ceding the home regions but forming a plug to block Slovenia from its empire. Drawing most of the fire, Croatia's allowed France to sneakily take Piedmont and Lombardy, while Switzerland has also taken a couple regions in the chaos. Italy has remained stale, but stable. Slovenia has played perfectly into the trap.

New Macedonia

Belligerents: Macedonia vs. New Zealand
Results: As if it there was any room for speculation, Macedonia put away all doubt, quickly wiping the kiwis in New Zealand without much of a struggle. Ironically, the home away from home actually has more regions, while having less enemies nearby, so in a way, it's the poor man's India. Bordering Chile to the east and Indonesia to the west, Macedonia has the diamond in the rough, four regions allowing for a full congress that would be almost impossible in the current age and regarding Macedonia's natural position. It's of course possible that the base won't last forever, but much to New Zealand's chagrin, it doesn't look like Macedonia is going anywhere.

The Australian Liberation

Belligerents: Indonesia vs. Australia
Results: Indonesia finished off its worthy opponent, wiping the Australians after months of battle. Australia pulled off the best series of victories in the last few months in ages, but unfortunately, allied support ran dry as the allies needed damage for themselves. With Indonesia always a threat from the north, it's unlikely that Australia will catch a lucky break, barring China's fury raining upon Indos. The Aussies will keep fighting, but they'll be starting from step one all over again.
