An Idiot's Guide

Day 5,069, 13:24 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by DBCookie
If you've just joined the game, welcome, sadly there's not a massive influx of new players daily so you're already so special. If you've been trapped here for years, then feel free to read on at an idiot trying to teach the clueless.

https://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Tutorial

Above is a basic tutorial, the interface has changed and some features, such as a button to shove baguettes and energy bars into your mouth, are gone - the information is still good enough to get you going.

What's not mentioned there is the nifty Dictator feature, yes that's right; you can fulfill your dreams of enslaving your homeland and showing those childhood bullies what for. Of course there's always the bread and butter democracy, speaking of.

From left to right you have your country, military unit, political party and Plato. Why is the president calmly stating we've to win and lose wars? Because these are training wars. Before you go off writing an article about how we'll kick arse and win the war (like I did), make sure it's an actual war. Training wars are an agreement between nations to fight; this is in order to build up medals, gold, currency and experience. War is profitable.

A door is not a door when it's ajar, a war is not a war when it's a spar. Just friendly banter with weapons of mass destruction, so go have fun. You'll probably want to get a job first, maybe introduce yourself to your military unit or party via their feeds. You'll always have missions to keep you right including events to spice things up. Also during these events there are sales in the gold store, so save your gold or credit card for these times.

If there is ever a national emergency I'm sure our friendly government will be screaming at us via the feed and throwing weapons at us, shouting for us to get out and fight - so don't fret too much. It is a very slow burn at the early stage, but it's also super easy to get gold, as there is not many people fighting in the division 1 ground battles at the moment. So just hit and run as many wars as you can, with 70 fuel a week you could be netting 140 gold via battle hero medals.

The real soul of the game is in community interaction, so feel free to give a friendly hello to an ally or a kind hearted thrashing to the 'enemy'. Make friends, make war, make bread eventually. You might be eager to get started as an entrepreneur but be careful and make sure you know what you're doing and where the best place to do it is. Check articles from congress members, or simply ask around. Currently the best place for food production is the North East, first holding company's free, then it'll cost you. It takes employees to make houses and aircraft weapons, and that'll take some money.

So just take it easy, pop in when you can and watch the gold and cash pile up. Soon you'll feel ready to maybe move into the world of politics, nation building, or nation burning - become a mercenary turning the tide of war. Maybe even be a journalist, running to where the action is and interviewing legends of the community, hunting down mysteries. Maybe you'll be like many and log in once, get bored and never be seen again. Goodbye Citizen 139391, you were the worst employee I ever had.

So go for it, it's not like you could accidentally cause an international incident, I mean hell I'm pretty sure a lot of people on here wouldn't mind another world war to spice things up a little, currently eRepublik has had more than three world wars and the first couple weren't even proper world wars. So there's plenty of room for improvement if you think you've got what it takes, or if you're just super good at annoying people and can trigger a diplomatic incident. Either way I hope to hear of many of your exploits and share some of my own, in a game that seems to always persist.

There is so much of this game and I have covered so little, so if anyone has recently joined and would like help, feel free to post a comment or question. If there actually is a steady stream of new players, that are somehow helped by this, then I will follow up with more in-depth articles on specific areas of the game, i.e warfare (or how I learned to love to bomb ). I also will be attempting to post interesting stories from what history of eRepublik and the eUK I can find.

Thanks for reading, good luck in the game and fair thee well in the real world.
