A Royal Denmark?

I'd like to continue the correspondence with Kasper Haurum, conceirning his comments on the structure of the eDanish community. I would also like to say that this might be some of the most well structured critique we've seen in a long time - and I think it deserves more votes than it was given. In this response however I'm going to give some direct questions, and I hope the counterpart can answer them.

First of all, it's amazing how a single player can contribute more to the climate of debate than all the other parties combined. I applaud you, Kasper, for that. I once knew a very critical player whom I had to debate fiercely to somewhat convince. His name was Flitwick. As President I called the congressmen of my first term lazy. As party president of Vanguard, I'd like to continue this tradition.

The other parties are lazy. Even Vanguard is lazy - with certain exceptions.

Now - on to the accusations against the Danish community. More precisely, the ones claiming we're not a democracy - but a monarchy. It's actually funny that you mention it: the first constitution of eDenmark I wittnessed being written (by a Dane, I might add) included a section about Denmark being a constitutional monarchy. We have a Captain Queen, elected by the members of the Royal court. Let me also mention that we haven't had an election (the queen has to be overthrown by an ursurper) in quite some time. Not sure most people actually know about it.

In terms of monarchy, then we would be looking at a long line of players. Friends, perhaps IRL, passing the torch between eachother - excluding new players and/or non-member of whatever external connection they might have. To counter that, let's review the last four presidents - irrespective of chronology:

HrBjorn - a Dane. I've met him three times IRL I think. On all occasions, we were drunk. He's eDead now.

Sasori5 - a Spaniard, who - for some reason - moved to Denmark waaaaay back. If I don't remember incorrectly, he came up with the name for Killers with Spoons. He's our current Minister of Finance. Haven't heard much from him recently.

Maine Coon - a Dane. Also the only woman in eDenmark. While being one of the greatest patriots in the game, she's also maintained exceptional relations with German governments. She's a large part why we have been able to strike such a sweet deal with the Germans.

Myself - a Swede. I've lived in eDenmark since ~2009. Been a congressman at least ten times. Started and maintained countless parties. I think I'm actually the oldest eDanish player alive right now (?).

I can name more of them. Most of them will be Danes, some are international presidents. Point is, none or few of us have more in common with eachother than the fact that we've all been Presidents. We've played the game differently, been around longer/shorter than each other. So what about the ministers? Straight away, we have two exceptions to your statement: Kristian Klausen is yet to turn two years in-game. He's already served as Minister of Information for two presidents. Another exception is Matthias Lund, our current Minister of Education. Also a very young player who's had a rocket career. What is the thing in common with these two? They had actual ideas, and the energy to try them out. They volunteered.

If you want examples of the opposite; old, experienced players, who are not in the government - let's namedrop Carlos. Denmark's long standing Minister of Defense, whom I fired because I don't think we need one. I've cooperated with Carlos before, and we're both eOld as hell. Still, we're not part of eachother's political circles.

Now; give me some examples of people that we've excluded. Players whom we've told that they cannot join in on the fun. Denmark is a very inclusive community, if you play your cards right. First of all, we don't let untrusted candidates take high ranking offices. For that, we've been rewarded with keeping any and all PTO'ers from the seat of President. With one exception - a Dane, that I met IRL. That was a long time ago, and there was no external threat at that time. That came a few weeks later.

Let me tell you how we, generally speaking, pick trusted players apart from not-truste😛
1. If you speak decent Danish, odds are you won't sell out the country.
2. If well known players vouch for you, and actually remember you in person, you're almost always good to go.
3. If you stay in the country, taking an active interest in what's actually going on - and show activity both on the forum and/or on IRC, you're very likely to befriend at least one of us - and that's usually enough to convice the rest of us. But that will take weeks. Months. Years even.

And please tell me, how would you do differently? How would it be more efficient?

Right now, we have a party of completely fresh players who have stuck together. We haven't heard as much as a comment from any of them, and I doubt we ever will.

Now, is it up to us to prove them as multies/PTO'ers?
Yes, and we do. If we do not have the evidence to back up our arguments, our accusations are invalid - right? So how did the party drop from the no.1 position to the current no.4? The admins banned half of them.

What then is the responsibility of new players? Now I'm speaking as Party President: players have to show that they're active for me to prioritize them on the congress election list. They also have to show that they understand what we're doing right now - and have rational objections to what we're doing if they're going to criticize it.

And here's me rationalizing why so few players are given the office of Ministers: volunteers are few and far in between. Also, we're a small country. We don't make up titles for people just to fill chairs: if you have an idea, you pitch it. If enough people like it, we try it out. It's as simple as that - and I believe it's how a democracy works in general.

Now, here's what I always try to tell people that I call PTO'ers:
Pitch your ideas. Ciritize mine.

Usually the only response is silence.
