Ministerial functions
Congress Member EPThompson asked a question in Congress about some reports on Ministries:
For the Government to provide an overview, for each Ministry, of what it shall be doing over the next four weeks.
I must stress that the Cabinet is in no way responsible to Congress and is certainly not subject to Congress oversight. This is not the RL USA!
Nevertheless, the government is happy to provide Congress with a brief overview of the functions of each Ministry. We do not propose to provide an exhaustive outline of government activities but are happy to answer general questions.
The same member of Congress asked a separate question about Northern Ireland. The definitive answer to this question was provided in my mid-term report halfway through the last term:
There was some fervent discussion in Congress and a widely read and supported article in the media about the situation with Ireland regarding our core region of Northern Ireland.
It must be stressed that the geopolitical situation is now vastly different from what prevailed three years ago, when we were subject to threats, intimidation and outright aggression by Ireland and its allies. A temporary agreement was put in place back then but this has long since expired.
We now have good relations with Armenia, which occupies Northern Ireland, as well as many other Training War arrangements with multiple countries. None of our TW partners would be happy with any aggression from Ireland should we assert our position on the region. However, brash assertiveness on our part is not likely be of any assistance.
An even more important consideration is the economic welfare of our citizens who have factories in Scotland. Unnecessary disruption of that arrangement is definitely not in our national interest.
This is the government’s final word on the matter and no further questions on this will be entertained.

Thank you to all who supported me in obtaining re-election!

Your resignation from the ministry is accepted.

The fact Wingfield has sacked you for having an opinion says all you need to know.
I hope under a better CP you’ll return to govt eerte!
A member of a ministry does not criticise the government or the CP. To do so is a breach of Cabinet solidarity. It is quite simple really.
And they say we bully people
That must be the worse response for a question i have ever seen,
"we are doing nothing please stop asking questions about something we really dont want to discuss or deal with"
What happened did your balls drop off?
Unlike you and your colleagues, Spygon, who have been itching for a fight with Ireland for months now, the government's answer is the responsible one. We will not be baited by you into endangering our strategic position.
You are not getting baited into a fight i have said several times in this back and forth that there are other opitions. But as always lazy Wingfield wont even entertain them its embrassing.
Sometimes and in this case "let's just do SOMETHING" is the worst option. This must be the worst response to an answered question. Knuckle dragging at it's worst!
Then why dont we all log off if we dont want to do anything in this game. Lets just all quit and do something else. I have never seen a group of people so adverse from playing the game they are on. Its like starting a game then leaving it on the main menu then complaining when people want to press the start button.
What you are saying is let's play a game but let's not play it intelligently. Your analogy is boneheadingly stupid!
No i am saying lets actually play the game. What has the current government done literally please tell me this isnt some kind of bait or trap. This whole article proves the stance of this government "i have been asked two questions and dont really want to deal with either of them" I actually feel bad for Wingfield he has been shoved up on a pole as some kind of puppet president as the cabal know he wont do anything.
You forgot to add the word stupid after the word anything
I guess nothing comes to mind Keith. Keep defending inactivity.
Strategy is not 'inactivity' history is full of examples. Hannibal waited till Varro (a man of reckless nature and hubris) was in command before engaging the romans at the battle of Cannae. Varro orders his men to advance toward the waiting Carthaginians.. Hannibal's strategy has been studied and emulated many times since then. Not so much your hero Gaius Terentius Varro
Hannibal indeed outwitted Varro, but it's important to remember that real-world military tactics can't be directly applied to an eRepublik scenario. The dynamics and objectives differ significantly. In the game, we need to consider economic factors, diplomatic relations, and the eUK's current political landscape when evaluating strategies. It's not just about personal heroism; it's a collective effort and should adapt to the unique eRepublik context.
I just asked what has the government done and now your mentioning ancient warfare. Also once again i feel i need this put down in a note pad so i can copy and paste it. I am not condoning to attack on Ireland why does all the Cabal believe its either do nothing or attack Ireland. We have alot more other opitions.
@spy I fully agree, let's try and do something with ourselves here, let's jump online with something important to do. not just to vote, fight, like or dislike
The current occupier of the region of Northern Ireland is North Macedonia, with which we have friendly relations. Our position in the region is secure.
Was the UK asked if the region could change hands? It looks like we are not even involved in how our cores are managed. There was no update about it. I think this is exactly what has Congresspeople like Spygon alarmed.
Please do speak in front of the Congress. It's nothing difficult or "partisan". Tell us your plans and what do you plan to achieve. In the end of the term we will hear you again. It's simple and cool. You will understand what have you accomplished and what not. It's very practical thing, you see?
In a democratic system, the government is accountable to the legislative body, which is Congress in this case. Oversight is a crucial element of the system to ensure checks and balances. So, Congress plays a vital role in holding the government accountable for its actions and decisions. 🏛️🤝
>I must stress that the Cabinet is in no way responsible to Congress and is certainly not subject to Congress oversight. This is not the RL USA!
Sorry but that's just dictatorship
The Cabinet is responsible to Congress in RL UK too. That is called the Parliament accountability hearings.
Ok properly speaking it's more of informational autocracy.
May God have mercy on us all
Good job to the team!
For the Government to provide an overview, for each Ministry, of what it shall be doing over the next four weeks.
Nevertheless, the government is happy to provide Congress with a brief overview of the functions of each Ministry. We do not propose to provide an exhaustive outline of government activities but are happy to answer general questions.
So... what was asked for then?
Congress oversight and presentation of ministry activity in advance.
EPThompson asked if we do have oversight, not that he wanted it (at the time). And the official question, AKA the first line, was just for an overview of Ministry plans for the month. That's not too much to ask for. Even if it was just "continue working on maintaining our TW stack" or "maintaining our current alliances with other countries".
in terms of “democracy “ the democratic result has been that TRS has failed to win four of the past five CP elections and has failed to gain control of Congress every time. You don’t accept the democratic choice of the electorate and you bleat the word democracy when the government refuses to kowtow to you.
Let’s use another word associated with democracy. I have a mandate!
well said wingfield, dont let them bully you.
Please tell me where the TRS party rejected to recognise you as a CP. Because otherwise you're picturing the participation in elections itself as undemocratic. Which is.. well, I don't know you personally but you need to calm down. The more you speak, the less I trust you.
Please tell me how your CP mandate justifies neglecting the Congress?
Congress has a mandate too.
Wanting answers to a question is completely fair. Every citizen has the right to question their Government, Congress members or not.
Be interesting to see if you get fired for saying that.
Considering WF's comment above, I've assumed I already am.
