A city on fire

The city is on fire,
the people are all gone,
their situation is dire,
they won't make it to dawn.
They are just following orders,
they don't want to die,
some run for the borders,
some lie down and cry.
All that's left are a few,
with no place they'd rather be,
for what they knew,
had set them all free.
They have nothing to lose,
and so they will fight,
their confidence is a ruse,
but that won't stop them tonight.
