[UK MoD] The (Utter) State of Our Nation

Day 3,984, 04:02 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Ministry of Defence

Ahoy me 'arties!

It's difficult to muster the will to write long articles these days. Judging by the election result many of our silent but active players have dropped off the radar and add to that a few of our finest felines have swam across the Irish sea to join our Celtic brethren, then I feel more like a drunk at a bar ranting to Nigel and his dog down the local rather than addressing a community.

As a couple of you may have noticed the eUK had been under a complete wipe at the hands of Greece since last term and in the past week we have finally re-emerged on the map! Hooray!

Although it is good news that we will begin to see a return of revenue and our Northern production hub is back in action so we can get back to producing more macaroni pictures and finger paintings it's important we don't get ahead of ourselves; though with the infectious bought of depression riding through the eUK I don't think many of us will.

eUK productivity goes into overdrive

This wasn't a victorious liberation owing to derring-do nor a co-ordinated allied strike. Instead we have graciously been granted some regions back by our occupiers and we have some TWs organised so there will be TP, RH and FF medals galore for those wanting them.
Ultimately we had little say in how our regions were carved up and had it been in their best interests, we would have remained wiped for the foreseeable future. The only slight victory I see in this is that not only were we able to participate in discussions, and kudos to Huey for taking the initiative, but that our wants from this occupation were listened to. After the clusterf*ck that saw the previous TW deal 'expire' it's a miracle they gave us the time of day.

But Uncle Chaz, why are you touching me there and this is good, right? Why so sad?

Well Timmy the figures don't lie, the eUK is a weak nation in terms of damage output and it has been for years now, languishing predominately between rank 40-50 and occasionally reaching the dizzying heights of the 30s, only a blind man could fail to see this.
What has been made abundantly clear over the past couple of months and is a truth we need to confront is that it goes a lot deeper than just what we produce on the battlefield. We've been like a hungover man desperately seeking some sustenance in the morning, opening the cupboard to find it is completely bare.

Barring the admirable daily grind of UKsFinest we previously had little to no co-ordinated military effort for quite some time, hell, we didn't even have someone pretending to be MoD for a period let alone mails or schemes. The excuse generally was that we were “Stable”...if I wasn't MoD/MoFA at present I'm sure a Muck Raker would be being written about a horse bolting or something right now.

STABILITY \o/
Yes that word. Before “Durrrmocracy” this was the favoured buzzword of our politicians and their devotees because it was was an answer to everything. No foreign policy? Who needs one? We're stable! No military co-ordination? Who needs any? We're stable! Look. 2% tax taa-daa! And so on and so on. You say stability I say fence sitting and idling.

The theory went that we had stuff in reserve and if the proverbial hit the fan then our allies would come riding to our rescue. If this wasn't blown apart when the dictatorship took hold and successfully defended itself then it certainly has been recently. The response from those I assume were expected to come riding in was lukewarm to say the least during and after our wipe.

But who can blame them...why would anyone bother with us?

When was the last time we as a nation embarked on a long campaign of support for another nation or alliance? Why would any country come charging forth to aid us when they owe us nothing? One of the criticisms or reasoning for not wanting to help was the fact we've been aiding anti-Asterian nations by hosting Training Wars with them (i.e. TP Gold), running parallel we've run a slim MPP stack and haven't been going out of our way to assist any of our more recent allies...if we're unsure of where our loyalties lay then how can anyone else be?

The eUK Being Vigilant

I spoke of our pig-ignorance in congress a short while back. This wasn't a criticism aimed at any individual or pertaining solely to recent events but aimed more at what I have just been ranting about. It is one of the reasons I'm not a fan of multiple or intense TWs; early last term our focus was on the TWs and getting them back on track which diverted our attention from anything bordering on meaningful, however even when TWs were running smoothly then they should need little attention and our focus can be elsewhere...it wasn't. Believe it or not it has been well over 6 months since we showed any real sign of being committed to any other nation.

We got stuck in this trap of “The World is just farming” whilst completely ignoring events developing around us.

OK...and what?

There is one benefit to all this misery though. By having absolutely nothing in place we can work to try and rebuild an eNation to be proud of. With no schemes or anything in place then we don't need to be afraid of treading on any toes; in the past the 'Chazbeard Yoof' never got off the ground because it would have meant killing off the NHS, a notion at the time that would have been abhorrent to many.

One from the archives: Lead Balloon?

I have been asking around for assistance in helping getting schemes of the ground as I've assumed some MoFA responsibilities this term so am running behind schedule, I hope Huey will back me up that there has been quite a large amount of time spent doing this stuff...I've even had to wander into the dark and murky worlds of Discord and Telegram :'(

There have been a couple of people step forward which is nice and I'm pleased to say Thedarkace has agreed to not only help but offer up the RAF to assist in getting an aviation scheme off the ground. We have way too few players to add even more MUs to the roster!
As previously mentioned this would combine the ideology of the NPF - but gear it more towards getting new/weak players into aviation – and the old rank up rewards which seem to have fallen by the wayside.

The groundwork has already been laid and I've been looking into foreign schemes and where their successes and failures lay as well as cyber stalking some of our newer active players and what we can expect from these type of players, I won't name them in case they get weirded out!

With our occupation sorted so far as we could hope for given the circumstances and new TWs about to start our attention now turns to Foreign policy. Combined this means we will actually have detailed information and orders to supply to troops rather than the snippets we have been giving as and when necessary. “We're wiped, go fight somewhere”.

These may seem like baby steps but at present I genuinely see us needing to start from the ground up and it won't be a matter of days!

So long gay boys
