I couldn't see it for shit when I first looked at it.

i started out seeing it as a small animal

and then i went to facebook where a page i follow had just posted the same picture with a solution

Now that I've seen it I cannot not see it.

Yeah, that's me too. And I don't know *how* I missed it when originally looking at it, now it just seems so blatantly obvious.

how it's misse😛 the top side of the cigar is positioned in a way that's consistent with the space between the bricks, and the subsequent lines/contours of the cigar and wall aims our focus at the gray rather than the brown part of the cigar.

Yeah, I guess its something like that, I just remember following the lines the bricks make when first seeing it, looking at the ash and thinking it was a lump of cement, and trying to identify something out of the ordinary, but seeing nowt. The disparity in colour between the bricks and the cigar tho, really makes me wonder how that can happen. I mean once you see the cigar it just seems so obvious.

It's like those colour based optical illusions where it asks which ones darker or whatever and [gasp!] they're actually the exact same shade! Our eyes see the brown of the cigarette but based on our past experiences, we interpret it as the shadow of the gap between bricks. It's kind of the same thing that happened during the blue/black white/gold dress thing (which may be my favourite thing that the internet has produced).

Almost seen that "hole" in a wall... again... despite knowing there's a cigar.

I think knowing there's a cigar there before you look at it might ruin the illusion, so that you go looking for it, but I dunno
