[President] To answer your questions...

Day 2,007, 12:12 Published in Denmark Denmark by pho3nix
This will be an explanatory article, in which I will cover the following points:

- Why can Denmark only hold on to one region right now?
- Why are we allied/friends/in a confederacy with Germany?
- Why did Germany attack Hovedstaden?
- Why has Denmark wiped?

Enjoy.

- Why can Denmark only hold on to one region right now?

The straight answer is this: congress. For each region a country has, it's congress increases by 10 seats. One regions gives us ten (10) seats, two regions twenty (20) and so forth to a maximum of 40 seats. The thought is, the more territories a country gains, the more players it should also gain. The problem with that analogy is that as you conquer regions, the players living in the region are not sent a new passport. Their citizenship remains unchanged, no matter how many regions we conquer. Unless newborn citizens come into play, or we start handing out citizenship liberally - we will have the same number of voters as we have today. There's also another logical problem with citizenship: you can give it, but you can't remove it. Anyone who has Danish citizenship hence will have it until they trade it for another.

The seats in congress are fought over between the top five parties of every country - meaning the five parties who have the most members. Everyone in a party can run for congress, but the Party President (PP) of each party decides on the 24th in which order the candidates will run on the 25th.

In the last elections, we've had about 30-50 people voting. That means it takes about 4-5 votes to get into congress. Winning the election gives you 5 gold, and gives you the privilege to vote on law suggestions in Denmark. Such laws include tax rates, handing out citizenship and deciding the message that is sent to each newborn. It also involves donating money from the treasury.

Add another 10 seats in the congress of Denmark, and it will take 1-2 votes to get in. All it then takes for a PTO'er is to start a party, fill it with all their friends, reach top five and vote for themselves. They get 5 Gold per head, can donate the treasury to their own account - and give out more citizenships to their friends. Danish players will soon become a minority in this, and I've seen this happen on numerous occasions. If Denmark isn't run by/with Danish players - then what's the point of the country? The Danish community has time and time again sai😛 Confederation > Wiped > Occupation. And that's what we've been doing for the good part of two years.

Add another party, like "Dansker for Denmark", and all it takes is five-six friends deciding that they need some gold in order to get in top five. That means we have to rig elections, by throwing our own voters into their own ranks. This spreads the Danish players thin. People who have ambitions to Congress are refused to get there - because experience decides who gets in when a draw occurs. In order to win the elections, we have to tip the balance in our direction - by all means necessary. The beginners are the ones who pay the heaviest price.

Adding another party, when the political scene already is wide open and welcomes opposition, is not only selfish and narcisitic: it endangers the political stability of the country. It's also a waste of gold.

- Why are we allied/friends/in a confederacy with Germany?
Because it's awesome?

No. As eRep is a game based on real-life geography, we don't get to choose our neighbours. Sweden has been the dominant power of Scandinavia for quite some time. Not until post-beta gameplay was there really a match in the region. Denmark has a history with Sweden: they first occupied our country at the very launch of the war module. We have joined Sweden in a Union, in which the Danish community migrated to the Swedish. Sweden has at times been a reliable ally, and sometimes the enemy to the east, much like real life (in which the countries hold the world record for wars fought between each other).

Norway used to be a powerful nation, once stretching as far as the Pacific Ocean. Over time though, other communities have gained strength while the Norwegian community has shrunk.

To the south we have two neighbours: Germany and Poland. Poland is a huge and extremely powerful country - and also head of the perhaps strongest alliance in the game. They more or less don't speak English - or wouldn't be very interested in a small country as Denmark. The choice then falls on Germany.

When Denmark left the Homonavian union with Sweden, we tried to hold on to all the Danish regions. Pretty soon we were overun by PTO'ers - among others a group of players vouched for by a high ranking Swedish player, should be added. We had to act: reduce the amounts of regions, fast. We sure as funk weren't going back to the Swedes we had just left. Norway has problems keeping their own borders intact, and if occupied by Poland odds were that we would never again be able to reclaim the regions. Germany was the rational choice - and quite surprisingly they accepted and welcomed us into their community. Denmark then took a break while Germany watched our back. Meanwhile, Denmark still created revenue from the people who still had Danish citizenship and who were selling good to the Plato-bot. So much that the country again was under PTO-attack during the end of 2012. Denmark was then again resurrected in order to secure the treasury - which had around 5 million DKK lying around. A part of that (1 million) was given to Germany for their services of keeping the country from being PTO'ed, and the Danish community decided to take another crack at playing in our own community. Since our numbers are few, so must also the seats in congress be.

Germany hence protects Denmark from losing influence over it's own policy. In return, we lend them our regions - which provides them with production bonuses, as well (as we have seen) a route into Norway. Personally, I have to say that it is only on that point the Germans really have disapointed us in this cooperation - and I cannot for the life of me understand the hostility towards the German community. It should also be said that I think this point have been delt with in §5 of the new Treaty of Germark. For the cheap price of 20% of our monthly treasury income (about 2500-3000 DKK), we get the benefits of all the German MPP's signed. Players who feel strangled by the constraints of Danish CS have a fast lane into German CS. We also are under indirect CoT protection - something I think we otherwise can only dream of.

I can't find a better deal, and I challenge anyone to do so. In writing, with all parties accepting the terms - and a 66,6% vote to break the Confederation. And trust me, I'll be one of the 34,4% voting against it as it stands right now.

- Why did Germany attack Hovedstaden?
With the Asgard attack on Midtjylland, Denmark was dragged into the conflict - despite us declaring ourselves neutral in the fight between Germany and Asgard. This ment that Germany was losing the production bonuses of "both" occupied Norway as well as Midt-/Nordjylland. Germany was busy putting down the resistance in Norway, and attacking Denmark ment voting us as Natural Enemy (NE), which would take 24 hours and remove the NE on Poland - which was used finalizing another treaty in the south-east. It would also cost Germany about 200 Gold to start a non-NE war. An NE war is started for free. As Denmark was attacked unprovoked, I decided to step in and support the Germans in restoring our borders, as stipulated by the Treaty of Germark. Congressman Lutharus started the vote, I pressed the "attack"-button. Denmark attacked Syddanmark - and the race was on to restore the borders.

As Denmark lost the battle of Syddanmark - as planned - the "turn" switched to Germany to attack. After waiting 24 hours, the game loses it's temper and auto-attacks a region. In this case, Midtjylland that was "liberated" by Asgard forces. Upon successfully conquring Midtjylland - as planned - the game then waited another 24 hours to auto-attack. This time Denmark only has one region: Hovedstaden. Game mechanics attacked Hovedstaden - not Germany.

- Why has Denmark wiped?
This is closely related to the previous point. If Denmark instead would have successfully defended Hovedstaden, the turn to attack would've been switched to us. Unless we choose a target, the game will auto-attack for us at a random region. This switching turns to attack would continue until we chose a different Natural Enemy or one of us wipes. This would take 24 hours, and the fight is already over.

Now that Denmark is wiped, the NE will be considered spent by the game and we can once again peacefully co-exist. Not only that, but the medals from the resistance war - along with Battle Hero medals, Campaign Hero medal and all the True Patriot medals players will receive - will make the RW profitable. Denmark actually has something to gain from this.

See what I did there?

Having said all this, I will gladly answer questions in the comment area, in PM's or on IRC.
