[MoFA] International Relations for Fellow Inactives

Day 3,487, 07:33 Published in United Kingdom North Macedonia by Foreign Office

Afternoon lads o7,

In a pre-emptive attempt to claim a record MoFA articles published I’m happy to introduce our rather large team 'ere this month - joining me in failing to speak anything other than English for the term is yer very own Rodney McKay, Raw Ability & The King Charles III.

A token 40 camels to Paul Tyndale who has graciously agreed to stay on as deputy this month. We also apparently have an ambassador in China still on staff that their CP has kindly reminded me about - if you remember that it's you please let me know...

I expect people would generally like to see reports of, well, wut's goin' on abroad. Surprisingly a number of fellow oldfags have managed to sneak their way into a re-election so will hopefully arrange a few chats and interviews to get an idea of where we currently stand with the rest of the international community. We’ve kicked off with our new CP DishMCDS on the basis Dapper is correct he’s a US/Mexican spy, and Yui MHCP001, the US equivalent of Aaron Mark Daniels.

As the traditional monthly spamming of every unfortunate CP with our cabinet list and a bottle of whisky is still ongoing, I've more or less succeeded in burying any meaningful negotiations that may have previously been taking place. As of such we can expect immediate re-occupation by the Unholy Alliance for failing to pass the sugar and refusing to offer a biscuit...

If you'd like to help out this term with, well, whatever needs help with, we're not really in a position to turn you down! Even if you don't feel you have the experience we're happy to train you on the job. You might even meet a foreigner...

DishMCDS – UK CP

Fire away, although obligatory answer will be "I intend to change our national language to Spanish"

Heh, how has the world changed since you were initially buried some years ago 😛

I don't see the intensity that I remembered from years ago. Being a citizen of Erepublik, there was a duty to do for country, because there were a lot of intense battles and wars. Alliances were very close, often times spending hours talking about nothing, but when it was needed we were all there for each other. I don't know that I see that anymore, but what I do see is a solid core of players in every country I look to, that wants to drive activity. There's an inherent issue in the game itself, but I believe in Government, whether we think the game is at it's peak or not, for our citizens it's our duty to try.

Often those old conflicts were based around some areas of real life animosity (Serbia/Romania used to be quite major for a while). Quite a lot of it was, however, was based around the principle of ‘fun’ as you describe - coordination and teamwork paying off between communities. Given we are, as you say, reduced to our cores in a lot of countries - do you think that level of ‘intensity’ is possible anymore?

I think there are two issues that somewhat hinder them. The first are the alliances, which to me seem just a bit too "nice" to each other. Going back to the beginning of time, when Plato owed me a quarter for his lunch money, there were always two polar opposites. For every action, there was a reaction. Sometimes PEACE or ONE/TWO/NINE got the better of it, sometimes it was ATLANTIS, or BROMANCE, OR EDEN, or whatever other alliance name you use, but it was fun, and unpredictable at times. The other is that just about every country has an open TW. I know they are great for medals/gold, etc, but they drain damage, and make it near impossible to coordinate everyone at an efficient level. I like small, regional conflict. I enjoy being friendly with our neighbors, but I think at some point you need to have a healthy challenge with a friend every now and then, which keeps it interesting.

Do you think people have ‘settled down’ too much then? The lack of international intrigue/backstabbing/random wipes progressively making eRep a more predictable and boring place to be? How would you whip countries respective cores into making it interesting again? Force our new Swedish Plato to hold some sort of international competition? 😛

I'm not sure how or if it can be done globally, but in terms of here in the UK, I always say to start small, and go one step at a time. First, we look at our internal processes, and what opportunities for team building we'd have. We work off of that, and just keep an open mindset as we move along through the month to what may, or may not happen. Eventually, for alliances, they almost always collapse or rebrand themselves, so we just need to be mindful of that as we move along in the eWorld.

As we are more or less surrounded by friendly governments and allies does this mean we can look forward to a random airstrike or are we going to play the Perfidious Albion card at some point? 😉

**At this point Dish gracefully dozes off as he thinks of something interesting but non-revealing to reply with…**

Yui MHCP001 – US MoFA/Potential Dish Paymaster

Having stayed in the State department for so long after MCKitkat I think it’s safe to guess you at least find eInternational Relations interesting 😛. Have there been any particular developments since taking up office that you have found particularly curious?

It's been great being the next Perennial MoFA after WildOwl. It's definitely one of the more interesting things I've been involved with in eRepublik, but so far the one that stands out most to me is the lead up to and the aftermath of Syndicate breaking up. We knew it was coming, with all the media that was being placed against them between the DARKNESS spam, TheJuliusCaesar's article (https://www.erepublik.com/en/article/what-is-wrong-with-prosyndicate-guide-how-to-trainwreck-and-blame-it-on-others-2637481/1/20), and the fact they were getting absolutely destroyed everywhere.

I said to Derphoof, USA CP, that we were one of the direct causes of Syndicate disbanding, since it happened so close to our Ukraine invasion. Is it true? Maybe not, but I'll continue saying it in private 😛. Now, it's interesting to see how ex-Syndicate is approaching the new situation. With the formation of ANDES, however, I'm not sure that they got the message.

One of your predecessors WildOwl was very proud about the fact he was a proper slimy bastard – given your last response do you think the USA is still as Machiavellian compared to other infamous periods in eReps foreign affairs?

I wouldn't say we are. I know many people love saying we are, but they probably just can't let go of the past. Obviously we'd like to achieve our goals by any means necessary, however, I at the very least dislike stabbing our allies in the back to do so. Now if we're talking about just me, that answer might be a bit different xd

And no comment on that 3 way wipe 😛

The USA have been reaching out for friendlier relations with the eUK for a couple of months now after our peace treaty between Pacifica and Orion. Given we don’t particularly offer much in the way of damage (and most of it is pissed away regardless), what does the USA see in us? – or is this move more focussed on pushing our larger alliance blocs closer in general?

UK and the USA have an interesting relationship, at least they have in the past few months. On the battlefield, we've been finding ourselves on opposite sides, especially with the US invading twice (once under me 😄 ) in the past year. However, behind the scenes, we've always had friendly relationships between the cabinets we would find ourselves with. I've especially have had a nice time with Aaron. I believe it's about time we find ourselves on the same side again.

Just a final q for now then before I have to run off for a bit 😛 - our new CP dish has said in his interview he sees alliance politics as "just a bit too nice to each other" - in particular blaming the lack of intrigue/team coordination compared to the old 'glory days' of the game that kept things interesting. Do you think this term will see any return to this or shall we have a wager on it being 'business as usual'

Business as usual, as far as i can tell

cheers yui! Anything you want to add before we wrap dis up

ask me shit that can let me stroke my ego more, if there are more to come

**this question is addressed directly to Yui's ego**
In what whys are you better than WildOwl at MoFA'ing?

****
THATS NOT A GOOD EGO QUESTION
xP
I literally have nothing for that
If I say I'm better than WildOwl in anyway I'd probably get crucified, then he'd come back and prove me to be a liar lol

**yui's ego suffers decisive loss**
