[ILP] Campaign Assurances
Gerald Smyth
I am running for Party President of the Independent Labour Party:
Campaign Assurances for Party President:
- Active participation in CP elections. These past couple of elections have been a strain for ILP voters with no real leftist figures. I volunteered last time because I knew was going to be active and was relatively qualified. Getting the ILP active in the CP elections is perhaps one of the best ways to get the ILP active overall.
- Revamped ILP Leadership Board, maintaining old faces but adding new ones. More details on this to come. We've been hesitant to add new members to the Leadership Board in fear of another incident. But now we feel now is the time and we have measures in place to make sure nothing happens again. Members may PM for details.
- Increased community. Ireland has been dull recently. Let's make that change! Expect a lottery and contests for members and non-members alike!
Qualifications
I've only been in eIreland for about a year but I think I have done a lot.
- Former President of the ILP. During my presidency, I revamped the ILP Leadership Board, we backed the winning candidate and the ILP grew into Ireland's largest party back to its rightful position.
- Commander of what is now the LPA. I'm former commander of the IPA and I was instrumental as Commander for merging the Irish People's Army with Labour's Army to form Labour People's Army which is (at present) the second best army in Ireland (after IA which crushes everybody).
- Other things. I've held a couple positions in government including in Community and Foreign Affairs. I'm not renowned at either. I was MikeBane's Prime Minister which is a pointless title.
So yeah. Last time I was President I thought I was pretty good at it and I've been here for a while so vote for me.
Any questions or comments or concerns or requests please PM me.
If you'd like to be considered for a role in the ILP leadership please PM me.
Sincerely,
Gerald mutherfuckin Smyth

Comments
This won't work Gerald, the Emperor can't be Vice President of the ILP. The Emperor has to be PP because...well I have "Emperor" in my name and Emperors aren't Vice Presidents 😛 Soooo yeaaah.... votado!
Sorry but your lord Scego commands you to vote for me
Well I'm right because science.
"no leftist figures"
erh
I created some of the most socialist systems in the game,
here,
Haven't you figured it out by now? For the ILP, socialism is more a matter of identity than actual policy. If you’re not calling each other comrade and filling your articles with in-your-face socialist rhetoric and symbolism, you’re not really socialist.
not true for my own opinion. A lot of us are RL leftists. Leftism in game is great economically and I support it. But politics in game can hold a large community factor as well as much as the general community itself can. In our ILP community, we hold many RL similarities.
RL politics may not have an impact in the military and economic areas of the game due to game mechanics, but do strongly in the community through the friends you make, including political parties. You aren't going to talk strictly about the game in your messages and IRC are you? No. And for us, a lot of conversations I have with mike and others are RL related and productive.
You can call it identity crisis or identity insecurity or whatever else you want, but for me it's a matter of pride and epride than anything else.
Fair enough RA. There certainly isn’t anything wrong with using RL ideology as one source of social identification and cohesion – that is one of the things that makes a political simulation game fun (especially in the first year).
But when it comes to CP endorsements, that is where merits of ideological identification becomes less clear. Because the vast majority of people in this game tend to endorse left-leaning policies anyway (even if they identify as more right in real life), overt identification as a leftist simply doesn't do much to differentiate between candidates in terms of policy choice. All it really does is harm their ability to identify with and lead those of us who are NOT members of ILP. A good CP must be able to organize and inspire all ranges of social groups – not just ones in their own clique. Thus it is my position that focusing on ideological identifications in CP elections is not just unproductive but actually counterproductive, especially if is at the expense of other more important traits such as competence or activity-level or leadership ability.
That being said, these comments were not intended to be an attack on your party. I have a lot of respect for you and others in your party. But at the same time I think you guys have made some pretty mediocre CP endorsements over the last year. And I suspect that it may have something to do with this misplaced focus on ideological identification.
You have certainly had a contribution to Ireland. Hopefully your presidency will include more leftist tendencies.
We all seem to have different definitions of socialism. So we'll see what happens.
I acknowledge there are differences between us.
I just feel that you are misappropriating a word to denote it.
Leftism it not the thing that sets you apart from me in this world.
I could agree to that.
