On TWO

The most important issues from the past few weeks that should be discussed are the signs of strain coming from within the TWO alliance. For months and months there had been a split between two blocs within the alliance, with Spain and Poland in one group, Serbia and Slovenia in the other, and the rest of the TWO and affiliated nations standing closer to one of these factions. This divide was historically insignificant, but in the past few weeks has turned into something of a crisis.

The deterioration began with the election of Cookies Crisp to the post of SG in TWO alliance, and the appointment of Ice Killa to the post of dSG, as well as his election as president of Slovenia. It was no secret that these two pro CUA players would take a more robust approach in TWO HQ towards Spain and their demands, and we soon saw a clash between the Slovenian and the Spanish government over Portugal. Ice Killa supported Portugal’s claims against Spanish aggression while Spain demanded the backing of the alliance against a non member. This gave rise to the absurd situation where two members of the alliance were facing one another in a war. However Portuguese resistance began to crumble, so the tension from this diplomatic standoff seemed to ease.

The next incident in the saga involved the renewal of Spain and Poland’s non aggression pact with the USA. The Serbian government was unhappy at not being informed of the renewal, and published an article lambasting the actions of the Polish government in particular. Whether you agree with the Serbian or the Spolish view on the matter, the articles and the rhetoric coming from the Serbian government was distinctly undiplomatic and unfriendly, and was nothing less than a direct challenge to Poland’s place in an alliance with Serbia.

The crisis reached boiling point more recently, when Cookies Crisp called for a meeting of TWO presidents to hold a vote on whether or not to kick Spain from the alliance. He claimed that three member states requested the vote be held, although two of these countries later denied this. In any event, the result of the vote was that the motion was rejected, and Spain and her allies turned the tables on the SG, calling for his impeachment. This motion passed, and Cookies Crisp was voted out.

Following his impeachment, Cookies began to abuse his privileges as SG, and altered the ingame names and titles of the countries he personally disliked, including renaming Poland to “Plumbers Incorporated”, updating Spain’s to a jibe at a real life issue of the autonomy of a Spanish region, changing Greece’s title to a joke at the expense of Greece’s real life financial situation, and other attempts to insult and belittle certain allies of Serbia.

His impeachment, and the election of new governments in Serbia and Slovenia have meant that hostility between the affected countries has begun to calm down, although Serbia’s MPP proposal to Poland received an unprecedented number of no votes, and according to an article released by the Slovenian government today, they might face difficulties renewing their MPP with Poland.

The recent events in TWO suggest that it has deteriorated from a cohesive alliance into a glorified patchwork of non aggression pacts, with loyalty to non members often trumping the relationships between member states. It is my personal opinion that the alliance cannot long survive the damage done during this month, although we will be prepared for any eventuality.


On India

The changes in the military module have made it more difficult to occupy foreign regions for extended periods of time, which jeopardised our position in the Indian subcontinent. With good coordination, excellent planning by our Ministers of Defence, and heavy support from our allies, Croatia managed to secure our last regions in India, and we have now gone back on the attack, circumventing the advantage that the determination bonus affords occupied countries.

Pakistan has been in regular contact with us about their designs on Indian regions, and their representatives are unfailingly helpful and cooperative, and keen not to encroach on Croatia’s plans.

On the future

As TWO begins to reach its end, the countries of the world will face new choices as to what direction they want to take. Croatia has remained patient ever since the fall of EDEN, knowing that neither TWO nor CoT could be a home for us, and the day where there is no such obstacle in our foreign affairs will soon be upon us. At times our policy may have seemed confused, and that is because the e-world was profoundly confusing for most eCroats after the fall of EDEN, and to see allies of four years turn overnight to our enemies was a blow which naturally produced no small amount of anger. That said we can safely say that bonds with most EDEN countries have prevented us from turning on each other as quickly and as viciously as the CoT and TWO nations did.

In these uncertain times it is important that we do not rule any option out without fully exploring them first. As such the government will continue to hold meetings and regular correspondence with our key allies, and we will remain open minded to offers from any potential partners in the future.
