[FoW] The Best Dead Game
Don Croata.
Hello everyone,
As you could notice, just like many others, I haven't been writing a lot lately. Writing was probably the favourite part of the game for me. Not for the sake of the writing, but because of the feedback I'd recieve from the community. Weather people liked my articles or not, I was always happy to hear the opinions, argues, compliments and critics.
Well, I don't do this game much anymore, for the same reason I don't write anymore either. There's no more feedback. There aren't enough people playing this sort of a game. It's bold to say this game is one of the best ideas I've ever came across in the browser gaming library.
Erepublik is the type of the game that requires a lot of people playing it, taking part in the community business, economy, wars. The people, its number is the sole purpose of the game itself. Fighting alongside your own community against the other ones, producing and doing the business when there's a large market, writing articles for many viewers, running the political campaigns for large base of players and stuff like that is the reason we're all here, weather you're aware of it or not. This will never be that type of the game where you can play it alone. It will never be the individual game Admins tried to create in order to make money out of the packs faster.
Why am I writing this now? Because the recent changes would be absolutely awesome if there are loads of people still playing this. Fuel is a brilliant idea for 50 000 players Erepublik era. However, after years of making this game as individualistic as possible, it's hard to expect that the recent changes will actually make much impact. I hope I'm wrong, I hope Admins has launched a long term plan of the recovery, but considering what history has taught us so far, I'm not an optimist.
Fuel changes, air battle increasement and even the other anti-cheat changes, bans and other stuff are all good changes. Or at least those would be the good changes if the game still had people playing it. It seems to me that Admins are a couple of years too late with their incentive. Fuel change will basically make the game more similar to everyone, those with and those without the packs. Admins probably wanted to make the game more attractive to everyone who's still playing. Countries and alliances are meant to be relying more on its coordination, communication and organization once again. It is imagined to direct countries and alliances on the more inclusive game playing style, however, I'm afraid there aren't too many people around to include.
These changes will work better for the countries with a bigger player base and for the countries that'll be able to organize themselves better. There aren't too many that can still do that though. It will be interested to see how the game will fold up in the future. I hope Admins are preparing a few more changes that would all be in a similar direction as the latest ones. But, there's one change we'll need no matter what. Increase the amount of people playing this, because without doing it, this will remain The Best Dead Game forever.
Yours,
Warbhoy

Remember the times when you rushed to post 'first' under your own article because people would be jumping on it as soon as its finished?

I think same, great article
Good thoughts! Game needs more players but needs also more dedicated programmers, a good game designer and... a at least a decent marekting manager! OMG... they need so much!
At this moment, marketing manager sounds like the most urgent person. External marketing anyway.
look in wikipedia erepublik labs how many people are actually working for them i counted nearly 40 https://www.erepubliklabs.com/ and what is more alexis bonte is now coo of stillfront so technically although its a holding company with independent games under it im certain he could pull personnel from other companies when and if needed. damnit they can just buy 1 german company and they would have the best programmers in this genre at their disposal.
i see the pic the one of the bucharest team is shown on the website if you wait a few minutes i can remember see'ing this somewhere i think it was on wikipedia but they have a lot of people working for them.

Great.
True and sad. This game wont be a phoenix 🙁
Probably, but phoenix comes when its least expected 🙂
Yeah, painfully true. One thing that I personally see as one of the causes why the few new players leave fast usually is that there is no actual meaning.
You said it yourself - fighting alongside your own community against the other ones - but this does not exist really, unless you are part of a major nation, due to the fact that the eWorld is content to farm in endless training battles to farm gold for no other reason to farm more. For what do they farm for? Buying packs or just for the sake of having gold.
This is utterly ridiculous and provides no actual enjoyment in the long term, even for older players. I really hope the admins first focus on limiting the TW's before changing anything else.
They're on a good path considering TW limits. It might be too late as there aren't too many people left to provide new players with any sort of knowledge or activity. However, it all depends on how Admins would run the campaign to attract the new players.
At this point, unless there is a complete rework of the game to a good mobile application, which will likely never happen (the current one sucks), we will never see a rise in player numbers again as the days of browsergames is gone.
I would prefer they focus on increasing the enjoyment of the current player base, rather than marketing for many new players that leave within a month.
I guess I'm too old school to recognise that the days of browser games is gone ^

Same for me, that is why we are still here I guess. But most people stick to mobile games for their enjoyment nowadays. You can even see that eRepublik Labs's other games are exclusively for mobile and not browser based.
I totally agree with you Fyreous
Nowadays people will do graphical games in front of LCDs or textual and event based games (liek erep) on their mobile, lately whenever someone asks me what the hell are you doing and I start to explain what erep is about they all reach to point of asking me whats mobile application name, and I know they dont get anything from current app, it needs hell of effort to make a good stable mobile game
exactly like warbhoy said, adding fuel is a great deed but for a game with much more players, it actually will look like all the games on mobile market, pay to be able to play more, but without mobile app it is really hard to get newer people to come to this dead space
I tried this on my teenage niece to get her and her friends come to erep but they simply dont get web browser games like this with no graphical feature
finally smb gets it, game nosedived when hatred had overcame and started free falling the moment tws became a thing
For once I actually agree with a lazykrat...
Voted.
always awesome article,
but sadly bro, i completely disagree your view over fuel update,
most problem of erep = too much time and.. toooooooooooooooo slow for playing
so new player immediately leave game and become high barrier for new+light user
it might be fundamental limit of web game,
but since i have played this game, admin never approach to solve those factor,
(they longer point for winning battle 150 from 94 fuhahahahah)
are you believe that it would possible 2clicker to be activate?
at now, most of them are useless+selfish and unable to communicate idiots
they didnt care about countries needs and battle
they only care about their factory and money
when your country PTOed or miserable situation, they will ignore
but they complain about increase TAX
under this situation, admin believe fuel update made them grapple BH or SH
i'm strongly skeptical
I disagree on game being slow. Game was much slower before and it kept 100k people playing it for a long time. It's a browser game, PC games are for fast gameplay. This is a political, economic simulation. While the game being slow you can always work on something else like organizing, parties, economy, military plans and so on.
Also, ❤
underlying problem are critical of ereps destiny
admin could accelerate faster personel economic base or compete against old player (like strengh change)
but they did not
ofc early stage, many people enjoy the 'mastermind'(ofc they believe themselve XD) system
they were also boring and left
Yeah, but they've left after 7 or 8 years of playing and only after the game became more individual. When it was all community based you could spend hours doing the meta-game.
under my experience, it is firmly connected with country personality
especially in Korea, most of them throw everything in battle and eternal logout
in their logic = game = fighting = win or lose
so they does not understand build up and dedication for community
but other country person did not as Korean
okay koreans are actually a special case xddd they would rather throw a game if it requires too much time and go pick up something faster
Vote and I agree !
abandon ship
sad but true o/
The only thing i say is: this year i have been a "4 clicks" for many months. Happened first time since i joined the game over 3 years ago.
Then i have been more active again, but i wonder how long i will still have patience to play this.
