[Fed Papers] What Does Congress Do? / Welcome Tom Cauchon

Day 3,319, 18:54 Published in USA USA by Terran Loyalist

I mean, don't we have a dictator? What is the point? See below.

First, welcome to a new party member who needs no introduction but has written one anyway...

Tom Cauchon – Why I Joined the Feds

I’m honored to be able to address the entire Fed body through official media, thanks go to Terran for allowing me to post an introduction. As many of you now know, I left the Socialist Freedom Party this week to pursue a new adventure and turn a page in my eRepublik career. I could write an essay on why I chose to leave SFP, but I’d rather talk about why I joined the Feds. There are a number of reasons for this, which include, but of course are not limited to, my admiration for your party structure, your strong activity levels, and your strong leadership team. For those of you that think I am here to disrupt your party and force my way into your inner circle, fear not! I am not here for any purpose other than an old-ish eRepublik player looking for a new home. I am content on doing whatever I can to help, from dropping supplies to writing for official media.

I am a 13-time Congress critter and I’ve served as eUS Vice President and Chief of Staff, in addition to various other lower cabinet positions (mostly under Fed POTUS like Orik, Tyler Bubblar, and Trekker). I have lots of experience in party building (I helped oversee the transition of SFP to a T5 party) and MU leadership (CO and Training Program Director of Bear Cavalry). However, this resume pales in comparison to some of the great players in the Federalist Party and I look forward learning from them and working alongside the entire party. Thank you all for the warm welcome, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need help, need some extra food, or just need someone to chat with.

I asked experienced members of Congress what they do all day...

Kody5 (Fed) - Well it depends on the day, congress does nothing some days and others we can technically decide the direction our country takes in wars and such. The biggest thing congress controls is the money of the nation, they can decide what gets funded and what doesn't so they have a decent amount of power still even without ingame powers. They vote on literally everything such as who we mpp, who we go to war with, and what we fund as a nation.

Gnilraps (USWP) - On a good day: drink booze and shitpost.
On a bad day: shitpost.

Tenshibo (Fed) - Shitpost

Pfeiffer (USWP) - Fap.

Wooky Jack (SFP) - quote pyramids!

Paul Proteus (Fed) - Eventually passes a budget, selects a speaker, bickers. It's an exciting place.

Ilene Dover (SFP) - I resent being called a veteran congress rep!!!! (sry Ilene)

Henry William French (BSP) - I will be honest half of congress doesn't do anything and the other half are just there to troll. (could be more than half there to troll)
Most things that are up for vote are already decided by certain parties being they get more congressmen by using multis like they always have. They also make deals with each other to keep that power between each other.

Shadowber (Fed) - generally nothing. We can have 2/3ds of the month be quiet with almost nothing going on. BUT.... sometimes congress explodes with activity...

Antonia Wimer (USWP) - Usually, we don't work all day. We all have families and friends, with whom we spend free time and relax bacuse our job is very stresfull. One part of the day we sleep. Sleep is very important for a Congressmen and one must get enough of it if he wants to discuss, propose and vote on matters of utmost importance for our great Country.
Now that we removed some time from ''all day'' I can tell you what Congressmen do. Or at least what they should be doing. I cannot say for everybody, i guess it depends on the party structure and rules, but in our party (the great USWP) work is in our blood. As our name states, we're workers. Our primary motive is working for the benefit of our country. I can tell what my work day looks like, without sleep and leisure time, which we already mentioned.
Basically, if you want to propose or disucss anything you have to know the matter.
To know it, you have to research, process and make conclusions. So what I do is: I go to our Congress hall, also known as eusaforums.com where I meet with other Congressmen and women. There I can see all topics that are being discussed that day. If there is something to discuss I think about the topic, research if there is no data being presented and state my opinion. One can never bee to wise, so often i seek advise from my fellow party members or older wiser politicans, often reffered to as ''OldFags''.
If there is nothing on the schedule for the day, I go ''in the field'', among my constituents. I talk and listen what tehy have to say, what is troubling them, what can we do to help them and make their life better. That way I gather information which will help me in future discussions, proposals and votes.
I can go on but I am running out of paper. In short, the job is not easy and it does not bare many privilages but it's a honorable job and i do it with pride.
I must go now, it's lunch time in the Congress canteen and I heard it's someone's birthday so there's gonna be cake.
All the best o/

SColbert (USWP) - We used to be kind of active. The last few months though have been the dullest I've ever experienced. I guess BSP and SFP have realized that they can't get their stupid ideas passed.

MCKitKat (Fed) - So far it was pretty much checking the forums once a day to see if a new discussion has plopped up and actively participate in it, and once the vote has been cast, it's back to the Congress Bar to chill out and get drunk. A shame that we haven't abolished the "No Hookers or Blow" rule.

Thanks for all your responses and a final, honest word from Inwegen:

Inwegen (USWP) - Await information and instruction from the Executive branch.

(Obviously this pleb is running for Congress)

Kind of weird how C elections work in this game. Really I have to convince the party leadership to place me high enough on the candidate list, rather than personally earning votes from ordinary people, which is how it should be.

Anyway my platform is mostly based on upholding the traditions of our fine nation: Dioism, pre-emptive war, and benevolent dictatorship. And not taking things too seriously.
