[Elite] Let's weigh in on Democracy
Elite C
Hey guys,
There's alot of articles flying around about MTO threats, democracy and what not. I thought I'd give my thoughts on the situation.
Right now, eIreland is in a better place than we were 4 weeks ago. We have finally made a string effort to unite our military. The current heads of IA have been doing fantastic jobs (although I haven't been paid in 3 days 😛
) nonetheless they are communicating every 2-3 days with us and we are striking very well.
I do not believe eIreland is under any MTO threat. With that I don't think we should return to appointing a dictator. We have proven to be strong enough to fend off attack with the help of our allies and any threat we have will be easily fought off.
My concern is that there will be a push for a Dictatorship before Congress elections in a bid to block the formation of a Congress. I believe we need a Congress to help us make informed decisions.
I do however believe that the government cannot be held to ransom by Congress, which is why I am, and always have been in favour of coalition governments particularly for Congress votes. It would allow for Congress to vote more swiftly for government approvals as those in coalition would have pre-arranged any changes to policy.
No one can rule with absolute power in a democracy. The idea of a coalition, while requiring compromise, is the most democratic solution for us right now. It leads to more balanced, or at least somewhat balanced, policies.
All the Best,
Elite C

Agree we need a congress, but in the absence of one there still should be the "one" that is formed under the guidelines of the Constitution, and it worked extremely well and ran the country along with the CP for the past few months - until Sluagh disbanded it and tore up the constitution because he wanted "ultimate Power", no congress to tie him down.

Well Elite...did you just go about the last few weeks with your hands over your eyes or something?...this is exactly what Sluagh has said he was going to do, and with you and other nimbots cheering him on.
I agree with you in most regards, however eIreland successfully created a democratic system with the Dictator mechanics to preserve and protect the nation against threats while simply exercising the will of Congress in conjunction with the Administration. The current leadership chose to disband that system entirely because they are disinterested in Democracy.
I agree that Congress could be empowered to act quicker, and was eyeing clauses to amend in the Constitution in the few days I had back in Congress before the CP elections and prompt shredding of the rights and freedoms of our nation in favor of a paternalistic administration that would like to become a military dictatorship.
I agree wholeheartedly. You have two people claiming Dictatorship, like we're some children who don't know how to do things for ourselves and need someone to do it for us.
If these past few days have proved anything, it's that we're incredibly strong when we stand together. Instead, we're ripping ourselves apart at the seems to accommodate one of two people. It's ridiculous.
To be fair, the democratically elected position of eIrish Dictator that Nogin was serving in was a largely powerless position that simply served to protect the funds and integrity of our Government. It could not supersede Congress, so it seems wrong the describe her (Nogin's) claim to the Dictatorship as paternalistic. Now on the other hand, Sluagh has disbanded Congress and deposed the Dictator precisely because he feels the community at large cannot be trusted to make decisions unless they are part of the inner circle.
I would agree but it became very clear that Noggin wasn't just a "button pusher" as her deep involvement in the political discussions showed. I felt she ran on a false pretense and only by being in the Congressional thread did I notice her deep involvement, despite her saying otherwise.
That's not really accurate. She participated only in the discussion of the Immigration Committee to present it's current workings and advise (as she was an observing member of that committee). She did jokingly reference that she was the Supreme Ruler of eIreland at one point, but her vote was not tallied as you can see from my vote correction as Deputy CC, she didn't intend for it to be tallied.
She did not participate in any other discussion at all until Sluagh was elected and disbanded Congress, "reverting to game mechanics" and even then Nogin proceeded to allocate funds for the CPs foreign policy as requested, she just refused to disburse directly to Sluagh for the purposes of protecting the treasury until Congress could vote on those disbursements.
If Sluagh had reconvened Congress rather than trying to rule from a "Good Old Boys Club" then he would already have his money for programs. There are only 4 ILP votes of the 20 votes in Congress, EA has 7. Even if the ILP acted out of spite to oppose everything, which I'm not convinced they would do, there are still the IFP with 5, IRF with 2 and ILD with 2. Even if the IFP and ILP were bound at the hip, which you well know they aren't, we couldn't stop the agenda.
I agree, why do we need a Dictator anyway?!
Congress talks a lot, and accomplishes nothing.
