THE WAR WILL END *Mahmoud Darwish
The war will end
The leaders will shake hands
The old woman will keep waiting
for her martyred son.
That girl will wait for her beloved husband
and those children will wait
for their heroic father
I don't know who sold our homeland
but I know who paid the price.
In 2017, British musician *Roger Waters set to music an English translation of Darwish's "Lesson From the Kama Sutra (Wait for Her)" on his album Is This the Life We Really Want? in a song titled "Wait for Her."
Here Italian Partisans freedom song (BELLA CIAO) Dedicated to everyone who resists. #freeukraine #freepalestine #freedonbass #freekurdistan........

I just saw The War Will End earlier today on another site. Darwish wrote very poignantly of the effects of war and displacement on the lives of common people. His poems, such as Ana Yusuf Ya Abi (I am Joseph, oh Father), set to music and performed by Marcel Khalife, as well as his poem Identity Card, expressed his grief over the displacement of the Palestinian people, but also established him as a resistance poet, upsetting both religious and political leaders. Khalife also got in trouble over Ana Yusuf, partly because it quoted from the Quran, a verse which echoes a story also told in Torah and the Bible. Thank you for sharing some of his (translated) words here.
And again, the new Bella Ciao is an enjoyable listen!
Thanks to you for your always careful reading. I think the world would benefit if we were all more receptive readers.
I published Roger Waters because it is more commercial 🙂
