Heaven Above, Heaven Below

SUMMARY

“Heaven above and heaven below” refers to...

Insight.
Knowledge and duty.
Awareness.
Keen observation.
Standing up or sitting up straight.

Strength is beneficial only when it is correct. Strength in doing evil is hellish. Strength in doing good results in good social order and heavenly states of mind. The beautiful virgin insight of newbies needs to be balanced with concentration.

Nothing is pure. Only the fully liberated are uncontaminated.

ANALYSIS

Lean into the six steps of riding dragons...

One. A new player should not disturb hidden dragons. Work quietly and let things develop inwardly without making a big fuss. The essential potential is there. Ignore e-society. Lay low. Test yourself.

Two. Notice the dragons in the field... the great players. It is useful to watch them cavort about and do e-stuff. Pay special attention to those who are well-balanced. Don’t bother feeling self-satisfied. None of this is real.

Three. Distinguish what makes true leaders: those who work all day and are wary all night, because with great strength comes great responsibility. It’s dangerous and difficult to be in command, but still to be circumspect. (“Circumspect” means not being a dick.) Being faithful and truthful; knowing when to go and when to stop; being tranquil and not proud. Those are the hallmarks of a good egg.

Four. Once ready, leap into the abyss with no regrets. Become the dragon. Time to work doubly hard. Do what is important. Remember that abdicating the throne and acquiring the throne can be done with the same state of mind. Be doubtful. Nothing you have cultivated or realized so far is real.

Five. Take to the sky on dragon’s wings. Fly with the e-sun and the e-moon and become a great player. Great e-leaders are civilized and can adapt to any situation.

Six. At the peak of their game, arrogant dragons have regrets because the reality is that nothing can really be apprehended. (“Apprehended” means something that is caught and held onto very firmly, as if one never wants let it go.) Wise dragons are not impressed with themselves. Everything is always in-between. Be noble without holding any rank. Rule without having any subjects. Enjoy the ride in the silent light.

COMMENTARY

The “dragon” is a metaphor for wisdom.

“Great players” means good teachers.

“Work hard” means to strive to direct one’s game-time towards a noble goal.

“Leap into the abyss” means to march to your own drummer and refrain from imitating other players.

“Take to the sky” means seeking to benefit all players.

“At the peak” means sharing in the good-time flow of all the players of all the e-nations and fully realizing that fullness never lasts forever.

JUDGMENT

Clouds move. Rains fall. Players ebb and flow. Creativity trumps mechanics.
See the beginning and the end and know their qualities. Every player participates in the overall e-harmony.

“Clouds” means multitudes of responses. “Rains” means lessons appropriate to learners. There is no “beginning” and no “end”. These words refer to experiential realizations. The difference between beginning and end is the same as that between confusion and insight.

When all the dimensions of goodness combine, it is possible for players to play impeccably with no mental aberrations.

Yours in peace, love and e-friendship,
