Here a street version:

Mario Terán, the Bolivian soldier who in October 1967 fired the shots that killed the Argentine doctor and revolutionary **Ernesto "Che" Guevara, who had been arrested a few hours earlier in Bolivia, died at the age of 80. Former general Gary Prado, commander of the group that had wnded and captured the revolutionary leader after months of research, told Radio Compañera that Terán died after a long illness: speaking of the best-known episode of his career, he added that "He had simply done his duty as an army sergeant."

“Che” Guevara was one of the most famous figures of the Cuban revolution, which in 1959 led to the dismissal of the dictator Fulgencio Batista and the subsequent establishment of the socialist state under the leadership of Fidel Castro. In the following years Guevara left Cuba to try to lead other uprisings in some countries of Africa and South America, but with less success. He was killed at the age of 39 on 9 October 1967 in La Higuera, Bolivia, the day after he was wounded and captured by an anti-guerrilla unit of the Bolivian army assisted by US special forces.

The US government, which had had a CIA agent infiltrate the Bolivian military, would have wanted him alive to question him: the Bolivian leaders instead decided that he should be killed, also to avoid that he could arouse new sympathy during a possible trial. The official version of the story was to be that "Che" Guevara was killed in battle.

On the morning of October 9, the CIA agent, the Cuban American Félix Rodríguez, spoke with Guevara and told him that he would soon be killed. In an interview given several years later, Rodríguez said that Guevara told him that "it was better this way" and that "he should never have been captured alive". The two shook hands and embraced, Rodríguez said. Then, before leaving the room, the agent ordered Terán to shoot under the neck, in order to make it appear that he had been killed in combat.

"It was the worst time of my life," Terán told reporters later. «I saw him big, very big, huge. His eyes shone brightly and when he fixed his gaze on me it made me dizzy. '

According to the biography of journalist Jon Lee Anderson, “Che” Guevara told Terán that he knew he was there to kill him. Terán recounted that at that point Guevara told him to calm down and to aim well, since he was "going to kill a man". "I stepped back, closed my eyes and fired," Terán said. He hit him in the arms, legs and finally in the chest, killing him.

The body of "Che" Guevara was shown to reporters in the nearby Bolivian village of Vallegrande. He was then buried in a secret place, discovered during an expedition financed by the government of Bolivia in 1997. His remains were subsequently transported to Cuba in a ceremony of honor.
