Drunken Musings | Stupid is what Stupid does

Day 4,624, 19:30 Published in Ireland United Kingdom by Rusty D

Well eIreland, why dont you pull up a pew and take a listen to yet another one of Uncle RustyD's Drunken Ramblings....

Today we see the US CP Tyler make do on his 'media friendly' threat to embargo Ireland. This has been apparently sold to the US public as a much needed action, to right the wrongs of an "apparent" wrong doing, that was done more then 6 months ago. While no shred of evidence has even been brought to light, let alone actually looked into to see if it even came from someone in power or was legit, the "supposed" evidence involved Ireland telling/commanding Asteria to wipe the US.

Yes, I know, that is stretching the imagination to actually believe. That Ireland would have the power to command Asteria to do our beckoning?? and what good would it do for Ireland??.... and here I thought I was the drunk raving loony.

Now let us take a look at the goings on, that we are seeing. While this might touch on some US internal issues, I want to make it clear that I am no expert on what is happening inside of the USA (personally I dont really give two hoots), but it does help one to understand their external actions.

Departure From Code eUSA had announced it's departure from the CODE alliance, the same alliance eIreland left a few months ago. Whilst eIreland had toyed with the idea of departing CODE for more then 6 months, we ensured our populace was kept informed about the reasons and also after leaving, we have continued to maintain a close friendship with a number of it's member countries.

From an outsider's point of view, it appears the US departure was either very sudden or not really discussed with it's populace. Even more surprising, they hold the SG seat and in-turn have the power to try and steer the alliance back on a course that they see fit and proper for an alliance. However, this is still from an outside the box view, it appears that the current administration, wanted to leave anyway and have left their representative high and dry, by not backing them in the SG position.

Embargo Ireland at the same time as their CP was talking about leaving CODE, he was also talking up the big bad sledge from Ireland, a nation that is still well liked in CODE. In essence using Ireland and CODE's liking for us as a scapegoat to force his alliance departure through. Why focus on the reality when one can make up an external reason?

Yes I know it all sounds a bit "1984", having an unseen enemy at the gate that threatens the countries existence, to enable the government to force it's citizens to do as it pleases. But it is one of the oldest tricks in the book, street scammers use the shell game, magician's use slight of hand tricks, RL governments use it all the time. So why wouldn't it work here in eRep....

The only issue is, you have to weigh up the pro's and con's of it. And for this instance, the Embargo law against Ireland, either Tyler is not too bright or he can't add up.

Before I get into the stupidity of this embargo law or why it wont actually work, let us look what an embargo actually is in eRepublik.

"Trading Embargoes are government actions to prohibit trade with other nations. Country's Presidents or Dictators can propose a Trade Embargo. Trading embargoes are proposed on Country administration page and active embargoes are visible on the Economy page."

- The embargo is based on citizenship. If your citizenship country has a trading embargo with country X, you will not be able to sell products to country X's markets regardless of where you currently live.

- If you are a general manager and you have products for sale in that country, your offer will remain in the foreign market until you either remove it or the products sell out, but you will not be able to update the offer or create new offers whilst the trade embargo is active.

- If you have a holding company located in a country who has set a Trading Embargo on your citizenship country, you will not be able to work as a manager.

Now if we take that plus add to the fact Tyler wanted to "virtually kill our production", we sort of guess where he is coming from, or what he is hoping to achieve, Tyler is thinking, if he can stop Irish people producing in USA, he will cripple our economy. Yes, you all can have a laugh now.

But please dont be too mean on him, we have had several trade embargo's issued by the USA to other nations that pretty much did squat, just think about the year long one the US did to Canada. But please let me offer Tyler some education, as he seems to be lacking in it....

Cannot Sell on US Markets okay.... ummm that is no big lose to any Irish citizen. We can sell on the Irish market, we can still do blackmarket trades and well, all our producers already have market licenses elsewhere, so even if we loose our regions, we can still sell stock.

Can't WaM.... another mute point. After Chickenguys accidental trade embargo (the US did pay compensation to our producers for it), many Irish producers realised the issues with "having all of ones eggs in one basket", so they began to diversify their holding companies, as well the Irish government helped them to bring their produce back to Ireland.

So, sorry Tyler, unsure if you actually have a clue about trade mechanics or not, but you wont "virtually destroy our economy". Plus the fact there is an issue of this current event.... now Mr CP, please focus hard...

Event = Easy Medals = Easy Gold = Easy CC = Produce/Tax

So due to the event, many fighters are picking up easy BH/SH medals (I can get a Div 1 BH for 100 energy and just using bazooka's), which in turn can be sold for cc and produce bought. Plus considering medals are taxed, the Irish economy still ticks along.

TW's = Easy Medals/TP Cash = Easy Gold/CC = Produce/Tax

Also on top of the medals in this event, Ireland has training wars, which also produces TP cash as well as medals. TP cash is taxed.... you see where I am going with Tyler. The Irish economy is not hinged on the US.

Now we have established two facts:

1. Tyler has no clue.

2. The US Trade Embargo doesnt harm Ireland in any way, shape or form.

We need to look at the Pro's and Con's to this redundant law to try and understand why it was done. Some points have been raised already, some theories have been raised already as well...

- Justification to leave CODE one point/theory raised was the US using Ireland as a scapegoat to leave CODE. Personally I understand CODE has some issues. All in all they are a bunch of good countries, but management can be lacking at some times. This is not due to the SG, but it is due to everyone who takes part in CODE. However if this was the case, why wouldn't the US just be upfront and say it is not working for them? I mean Ireland did it when we left....

- Doing Asteria's bidding another point raised was the US is doing this for Asteria. This I dont really find too plausible, not the fact the US CP will do what Asteria asks of him (after all they are currently under Asteria's thumb ), more the fact Asteria is smart enough to know a Embargo will do jack to Ireland. But if this was the case, why would the US curtail to their Asterian overlords?

- Asteria wiped USA Ireland convinced Asteria to wipe USA, this is the reason Tyler gave. Yep, Ireland of all countries can tell Asteria what to do. While this is most far fetched one, it is the funniest. I mean come on Tyler, if you want to come up with an excuse, at least put some thought into it man.

- Just because, while this has not come up, it could be the most sell-able one of them all. I mean many countries do things "just because" they can. And by doing this you wouldn't have gotten yourself into the position that you are in now.

The thing is with all these reasons above, they basically all make you realise one thing.... Tyler is neutered. I mean if it you wanted to leave CODE, just have the balls and say "we are out", if your being forced to Asteria's bidding, have the balls and say "bite me", if it is because Ireland controls Asteria, have the balls and say "here is the evidence".

But I digress, let us now look at the Pro's and Con's to this action. But we will look at it from both sides of the country equation.

Ireland

Con's: Cant WaM or sell in the USA... as stated above, no real issues.

Pro's: The eWorld/CODE can see how Ireland has been made a scapegoat. This builds our street cred with the eWorld/CODE as well as a lot of your citizens.

USA

Pro's: Stops those evil Irish producing in the USA or selling their products there. Also "apparently" teaches as a lesson about something or rather, that we have meant of done.

Con's: Lose tax dollars from Irish Holding Companies (not a big one), reduces the Worlds/CODE/Your own citizens opinion of you. Shows eUSA still flip flops around the place.

Yep Tyler, your one smart cookie....

So in a rather long dribbling article (I do warn it is a drunken musing), we see how the current USA CP has no clue, he is neutered and well this embargo law make us all laugh.

If your after some better written articles or articles from other authors, please read here. And remember to read the comments, as that will give you the readers view:

- The Irish CP's article on it: here (printed before the law was proposed)

- Derphoof's commentary on it: here (7x CP of USA)

- eUS Chief of Staff's article: Here (Written by dmjohnston)

- eIre MoD's commentary on it: here (Written by Nerusia longtime Irish/CODE stalwart)

- RTK's Commentary on it: here (RTK is one of Irelands biggest producers and use to hold quite a few hundred factories in USA)

- George Barker's commentary on it: here (George is a long term eRep player and citizen of USA)

- US CP Tyler's article on it:.... oh wait, he hasn't even bothered to inform this populace on it. Mmmmm great leadership.

Anyway, time for another Whiskey. But if this was TL : DR.... just know the embargo wont hurt Ireland, the US government/CP is still the laughing stock of the eWorld and life goes on.

Your humble servant,
Rusty D

Note:

- My use of 'US' is not a representation of the citizens of the USA, whom I still have a good relation with. It used through out as a representation of your current government.

- I also understand the US CP is one person. Their actions do not reflect the nation as a whole.
