Damn Weather! *(Rant)*
John Gormley
(So typically Irish to talk about the weather but anyway)
Is anyone else sick of the crappy weather we've gotten this winter? Okay, I suppose I should be grateful that I'm young and not as vulnerable as elderly people to this shocking weather, but still I'm fed up with it.
This winter is certainly the worst I can remember, certainly so if you judge by the massive amount of school, college and road closures. It started with the devastating floods in November. This is a sample of what Cork city was like back then:
It wasn't just Cork, it was much of the country and it caused widespread problems.
When that ended we thought we were through the worst of it. However, worse still was to come with the current cold snap. Most of the country is covered in snow and it is a massive danger to many people. In Dublin, a poor man had this unfortunate accident:

Here in Cork, close to where I live the Lough was completely frozen and a picture of this actually made the BBC website:

The poor national handling of the whole situation led to the real-life John Gormley being called the Minister for Snow which found very funny.
But, I'm sick of the whole thing. I can't go outside without completely freezing up. Cork has mostly escaped snow which is lucky but we actually have something worse-just ice. There is a constant danger of slipping like that poor man in Dublin. And this is really grinding my gears, as Peter Griffin in Family Guy would say. Does anyone else wish to recount their experiences from this winter? I swear to God, in 40 or 50 years we'll be telling our grand children how we survived the winter of 2009/2010. It really has been shocking. Let's hope it ends soon.
Rant over!

Ice is definitely worse than snow. My front door was froze shut yesterday. I couldn't get out!

So I write to you from my ol' Irish Org.
Oh John, I can't even begin to tell ya how p*****d I am getting with all of this!
I am up in the Kerry mountains. Pipes and mains water from the well frozen solid for over a week. Washing hair in Ballygowan, and Jeez, it'll be asses milk next!
Never seen a winter like it. It's been hitting minus 12 regularly up here, and even minus 18 , OMG!
The farm looks gorgeous, but the cattle-drinkers have a 6inch crust of ice on them now, pick-axe time, and yep, every day it feels more and more like a scene from The Shining....
