Who's the Boss?

Day 912, 11:18 Published in USA USA by fingerguns

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” –The Bible, Abe Lincoln, other people, me just now.

Yes, drama has gone down. It has been brewing for quite some time, but I hope the worst of it is over.

Meh. Idealism.

I know RL😕= eRep, but we really don’t throw all of our American ideals out the window just because we’re on the internet. We have modeled our nation after our RL nation and I know those of us in the Feds want to take that a step further and treat parties like States (small government good). There is no real need from a game mechanics perspective to have a style of government different from what we have in real life. Actually, the game itself seems to be modeled around American-style democracy (including “local” government). This is a good thing and should give us some kind of advantage, but instead we’re falling victim to the exact same things that plague our RL nation and political world.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, read these:

NXNW's Paper

Perhaps I am oversimplifying things here, but it appears the root of the problem is that there is confusion about who is in charge- The elected Commander-in-Chief or the appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff? Knowing we have a Constitution, based on the real deal, that should be easy enough to answer.

President of the United States > CJCS > JCS > everyone else

Unfortunately, because of the way it is worded, some are confused. The Military organizes itself and chooses how it is run. While that seems to imply that the President has no control over who is promoted, who works at communes, how they set up roll call and distribute arms, some seem to think that it is actually license for the JCS to dictate all foreign policy, regardless of executive decision. Not really sure where that’s coming from. Additionally, it says the President and the JCS consult with each other. I take that to mean ‘talk to and discuss.’ Makes sense… the military know our military resources and capabilities better than anyone. The President would surely have to speak with them before planning any kind of invasion or attack so we can be sure we aren’t slaughtered.

The Constitution encourages and even requires people to work together… but it apparently isn’t clear enough on who has the final say. One would think the title Commander-in-Chief sorta gives it away, but I suppose more clarity is needed. I hope Congress gets on that immediately so there are no further problems.

Done. Nothing more any of us can do unless we are in Congress. And for those people out there requesting ridiculous levels of insider information on this issue, let me ask you this- Are you really about to pledge allegiance to an individual over this nation? Really?

We are about to throw the hell down in battle…with our actual enemies. We need everyone on board, especially our military. I hope we can all rally together to advance our interests abroad. I know some people want this argument to go on and on, but what is that helping?? Come on now.

America above self. Always.
