Weekly Power Rankings S2 #4; The Spolish Armada

Day 2,133, 09:34 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

Welcome to Season 2 of Weekly Power Rankings!

Anyway, this, for all you newer players, is the Weekly Power Rankings! It's where I dissect the week in review, and show who pulled off great feats and deals, and which countries didn't do as well as they'd hope to. It's not just a warfare analysis, though that's a big part of it, but there's also noting treaties and long-term security, not just short-term happiness.

Various house rules: don't be a prick. I won't judge your opinion if you don't force it upon me, so I ask the same of you.

And in regards to that green country north of Greece, when they do well it's Macedonia, and when they suck it's FYROM. Got it? 😛

Without further ado, let's get started! 😃

WINNERS

1 (H1) Serbia

TL😉R: Conquering southern Italy, preparation to retake Aquitaine

Ultimately, the Croats couldn’t contain Serbia’s overwhelming strength. Despite the chaos and intervening in the Balkans, as well as Albania mischievously holding its lands in the area, Serbia couldn’t be contained in the Balkan box. After successfully cleaning up the rest of Croatia in the Balkans and fixing its border with ally Slovenia, Serbia has moved back into Italy, taking both its previous regions as well as Slovenia’s previous occupations. Though Croatia still manages to hold a couple of Italian regions, they pose no threat, them being busy in India. Thus, Serbia is prepared to move into France, and retake its previous landbridge and rubber. Serbia is set up very well, barring any enemy moves.

2 (5) Romania

TL😉R: Securing allies in the region, wiping Finland

Kill Bulgaria? Success. Help their buddies kill Sweden and Finland? Success. Have ridiculous borders split across two geographic regions? Triple check. Romania’s airstrike into Scandinavia has been a resounding success, not just wiping Bulgaria, but helping their allies take control of the rest of Scandinavia. Romania now owns chunks of Finland, Norway, and still retains hold of all of Bulgaria. Though not integrated into the greater TWO infrastructure, they’ve certainly done more than their fair share of the work, including becoming Turkey’s successor as archrival of Bulgaria and enacting its desires across the globe. Romania’s development into a superpower is growing more and more apparent.

3 (2) India

TL😉R: Partial liberation, wiping Bosnia

Allying with Serbia may have certain moral issues, but there’s no denying that they’ve made a powerful friend. And the early tests have turned out well. Thanks to their new partnership, India has evicted one of its unwelcome guests, eliminating Bosnia’s presence not just from the region, but from the map. Similar to USA liberating itself a month ago by targeting one occupier at a time, India must do the same, and they took out the easiest of the three. With Croatia coming in for revenge, it will be a true test of how much Serbia will actually help. Nevertheless, even if India loses and gets rewiped, they’ve had some semblance of justice, and will have a much easier time later. A small step for the Indians.

4 (3) Poland

TL😉R: Further advancement into USA, bringing Spain in the war

Poland has had a bit of a slowdown this week, compared to the cruise beforehand. With Americans deciding to resist at long last, Poland has stumbled slightly, both in Kansas and Louisiana. But with Spain coming into the war, the Polish will finally fight side by side with their closest ally in the first time in over a year. And with the distraction, Poland should get an extra edge in combat. Of course, due to the issues with Spain, Poland couldn’t benefit quite as much, so they were prevented from reaching any higher. Poland, despite its missteps in the last couple days, has nonetheless established a dominant stranglehold on USA. They are the favorite until proven otherwise.

5 (NR) Slovenia

TL😉R: Liberation of lands, isolation of Croatia, wiping Switzerland

Although Slovenia did nothing flashy compared to its big neighbors, they nonetheless made important moves in the war game. Thanks to Serbia, the Slovenians fixed up its eastern borders, eliminating Croatia from the Balkans. Though Croatia quickly set up an Italian wall to keep Slovenia from attacking, it has also shrunken European Croatia to 4 regions, while also allowing Slovenia to instead attack and wipe Switzerland. Now, they are in position to get back at France for their intervention earlier, and support Spain and Serbia in destroying the French. Whether Croatia will be a hinderance will be determined.

Honorable Mentions: Lithuania, Bolivia

LOSERS

Dishonorable Mentions: Switzerland, Croatia

B5 (NR) Spain

TL😉R: Misplayed assault on America, weakened empire

It worked very good on paper. Get peace with Mexico, attack America, piss on some hamburgers, hi-five Poland all night long in Washington DC. But naturally, the most beautifully awful scenario played out. Perhaps Spain underestimated Mexico’s loyalty to USA and CoT, or merely had a rogue propose too early, who knows? Certainly, Spain ended the training war with Mexico, who was happy to oblige, but when Spain showed its true colors, Mexico instead decided to make it a real war. Add in France, itching for somewhere to be useful, Portuguese rebels, and Canadian and Venezuelan puppets, it still wouldn’t be too bad if the end merited the means. But Spain lost against America, repelled in Charleston. That, my friends, is a sign of failure.

B4 (NR) Italy

TL😉R: Wipe from southern Italy by Serbia

Well, what can you do? With monstrous Serbia coming back in to retake lost land, the Balkan box was simply not enough to contain the Serbs. And naturally, the first target was big, juicy Italy. Far too weak to fight them, it was all they could do to roll over and accept the inevitable. Luckily, the Italians still hold the city of Venice, as well as the distant Aosta Valley, protected by a French wall, and bordering already busy France. With all their enemies preoccupied, Italy might stave off wipe just momentarily. Yet, they’ve been reduced to such a tragic situation that they have nothing to do. Perhaps a NE is what they need to get things more lively, because for now, they’re shot.

B3 (NR) Finland

TL😉R: Wipe by Romania, Estonia, and Belarus coalition

When one happening leads to one effect, the opposite happening creates the opposite effect. This was true with Bulgaria and Romania. When Bulgaria landed in Scandinavia, they secured the area and protected Asgard. However, with Romania in, they’ve experienced the opposite. The Baltics had a slight bonus already without either of the two interfering, but with a top 5 country deciding to peruse the area, Asgard stood no chance. Finland, long the lone country to hold out from occupation most of the time, had the most to lose with the interference, and was quickly wiped. With Belarus and Estonia also getting in on the action, the Finns were overwhelmed by the vast difference. Ultimately, the situation’s even worse than how it started off.

B2 (NR) Sweden

TL😉R: Wipe by Lithuania and Latvia

Well, at least they’re in the same boat as their buddy Finland, right? If it’s any consolation, at least Norway has regions! In all seriousness, it was inevitable. With the extra powerhouse securing the north for TWO, Lithuania and Latvia had free reign to attack the Swedes without Bulgaria looming behind the lines, threatening to intervene. While Sweden hasn’t been fully wiped, its position is not an enviable one. With Romania in the north, Latvia in the east, Lithuania in the south, and everything going to hell in the background, Sweden will have a tough time making it in the tough crowd.

B1 (NR) Bosnia and Herzegovina

TL😉R: Kicked out of India

Ultimately, the easiest target, and thus, the first to be evicted. With Albania having the extra regions and Croatia being mighty, the two-province state was India’s first target in liberating the country. With Serbian support (funny how they always show up), India made up for its lack of damage, winning close battles and eliminating one of the triumvirate. Without its Indian regions, Bosnia is now wiped once again, trapped in the Balkan box and awaiting the next foray into the Serbian sphere. Assumedly, Bosnia will once again try to airstrike out of the deathtrap into a safer area, perhaps India again and perhaps not. But certainly, they will go through hell to get there.
