Weekly Power Rankings #17; The Balkan Hibernation Ends

Day 1,769, 19:10 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

Welcome to another edition of the eRepublik Power Rankings! Here are the rules; the efforts of the top five countries this week will be recognized, and the five worst performances will be mocked, no exceptions! Countries are recognized for many things, including successful defending, securing strong alliances, and, of course, conquering rivals. Without further ado, let's begin!

WINNERS

1 (1) Croatia

Alright, last week, I promise! But is there a case for any other nation? Croatia has held off Indonesian pressure resoundingly well, even holding firm when massive support was flooded the Indos' way. Although they struggled for a few battles, Croatia kept their path to crush the Indo forces, capturing both Java and retaking the Lesser Sunda Islands alongside their Romanian support. Their success undoubtedly had some part in getting Chile to allow Australia to get a Congress and back on the map. If things hold up down south, will liberating Iran be the next objective?

Week rating: 9.1/10

2 (NR) Finland

Easy victories or not, the end result is the same: an extra five provinces for the Finns at the Estonians' expense. Near the end of the war, it appeared as if support for the Estonians had trickled away, much to the Finns' joy. With most of the fighting forces elsewhere, it doesn't seem as if Finland will be threatened any time soon. More importantly, they're now free to attack one of the southern threats, such as Latvia or perhaps Hungary. While it's probable that opposing forces will make a legitimate effort to free Estonia in the future, for now Finland will enjoy a stake to the south of the gulf.

Week rating: 8.7/10

3 (NR) Hungary

Like the Huns of ancient times, the Hungarians have been wreaking havoc wherever they please. After cleaning up the northern ridge of Ukraine that had ceded from Russia, they proceeded to attack the recently freed nation of Belarus, which at the time was far too busy attacking Lithuania to send enough troops to stop the Hungarian army. To be fair, Belarus is currently winning the main battle, and Ukraine is being much more than a little nuisance. But if Hungary can balance its Belarusian front and protecting its Ukrainian property, it could well be the next superblob.

Week rating: 8.1/10

4 (NR) Poland

Poland? Poland. Poland has mostly settled down after their French debacle (go France go), and after taking back the provinces that France had received, they mostly remained quiet, but made one crucial move: attacking the Czech Republic. While this move looks insignificant at first, this gives them a second path between their homeland and their western European territories (aka French and German playgrounds). While they may claim that this is a security measure, this in fact lessens their need to keep 'friendly' relations with Germark. The hipster pink blob is coming!

Week rating: 7.6/10

5 (H1) Colombia

Holding off Venezuela is hard enough, but try having to fight bad boy Spain as well! Colombia seemed down and out after Spain split the nation in three following some strategic attacks, but some well-needed support helped the Colombian nation repel the two opposing forces. And with Portugal getting back on the map (again), Colombia won't have to face Spain's full wrath. That's why despite a one province loss between this week and last, their gains in every other aspect gave them such a boost as to make it on the charts. But Colombia would do well not to let their guard down.

Week rating: 7.0/10

Honorable Mentions: Bulgaria, Italy

LOSERS

Just barely good enough: Romania, France

B5 (NR) Ukraine

Ukraine provided little more than a warmup for the Hungarians, losing all four of its diminutive empire to the green forces. The fact that Ukraine was such a disaster that they couldn't even manage to NE Hungary until it had lost half of its already pathetic landmass. To be fair, though, its revival after only a few days went a long way into preventing them from falling even lower down the scoreboard. If Ukraine can keep recapturing provinces, it shouldn't find itself in the losers aisle for much longer. But their failure early in the week can't be denied.

Week rating: 3.9/10

B4 (2) Sweden

The law of Sweden: when facing only one enemy not named Russia, Sweden wins. When faced with more than one enemy, Sweden loses. After taking over Latvia, being attacked by both the Latvian revolts and Lithuania proved too much for the Swedes. Sweden has lost its new vacation home, and has once again been invaded by the Lithuanians. However, similar to Ukraine, they've made a few steps late in the month to save face and avoid a lower score, capturing Gotaland after an intense RW. Sweden avoided utter disaster, but losing all gains and having invaders pilfering through provinces isn't exactly a good strategy either.

Week rating: 3.4/10

B3 (3) Belarus

The drama of Belarus continues! After being liberated by Germark and Sweden, it seemed as though Belarus would be free to take some Lithuanian lands free of charge. But the Hungarians stuck a foot in and said "not so fast", and changed the landscape. The Asgard and co. forces looked ready to seal the victory with a 3v3 battle (Finland, Sweden, Belarus vs. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), but with the extra nation for the ABC side, the Asgard side had no chance, and Belarus was the first in the line of fire. Belarus will need some help (Ukraine?) to escape being another Hungarian state.

Week rating: 2.8/10

B2 (NR) Estonia

Poor Estonia. While the other two members of ABC were out thrashing Belarus and Sweden, the little northern country watched itself get swallowed piece by piece by the Finnish marauders from the north. Without any support from their southern allies, Estonia stood no chance against a Finland burning with the desire to wipe the light blue from the map. And the utter lack of any resistance in their defeat won't earn them any 'passion' points either. Look forward to a long Estonian disappearance unless Hungary can save the alliance from a combined wipe.

Week rating: 2.1/10

B1 (L1) Indonesia

Indonesia just keeps getting beaten up by other nations on a whim, don't they? Before it was America, but now it's Cromania. Indonesia couldn't do anything about the two-pronged attack. The Indos tried focusing on the Croatian front, giving up the Romanian provinces in the process. But they couldn't completely clear the threat, as Croatia held on to its southern holding in the Lesser Sunda Islands. The switch in tactics to attack the Romanians didn't work either. With only one province left, it doesn't seem as though the Indos have much of a chance.
