The eUS Training Corps Military Unit is Recruiting

Day 3,201, 19:02 Published in USA USA by Komari
Background

My name is Komari and while I don’t really have much of a presence throughout the various communities of eRepublik I am still around. I started playing this game in October of 2009 and shortly after I began I came across the eUS Military calling for people to join. They promised to offer direction to my in-game efforts and a community of like-minded players to interact with. The Training Corps was the first step in finding a more permanent place in the overall military structure. I joined as the year drew to a close.

Some time after joining rather than seeking a transfer to a different branch of the military I stepped outside my typical style of interaction and sought an officer position. I was accepted and progressed to new opportunities within the Training Corps. I worked alongside so many amazing people and they are really what made the game for me. To me the Training Corps was what I was here for and eRepublik was just a place where our efforts converged.

Like most things though change is inevitable. With the main role of the Training Corps being interacting with new players it was necessary to have a steady supply of players to assist. Most of you can probably see where this is going. As time went on and the game continued to change an unfortunate blending of mechanical changes to the game and player involvement shifting changed the way I approached the game. It almost got to the point where it felt like I was going through the motions with the handful of people who were still around rather than actually contributing to something.

My time with the Training Corps ended after roughly three and a half years. I still feel that without a doubt it has been one of the best things I’ve done in eRepublik. The people there took this game and added so many layers of meaning to it and they gave me a chance to be part of it all.

This Military Unit

When eRepublik introduced military units to the game all the organizations started forming them. The Training Corps was no different. This military unit has been the only one I've been a part of and it is the only one I plan to be a part of. As time went on and organizational realignments occurred this unit fell into disuse and eventually I was the only one left. This unit was started as the eUS Training Corps and that is what it will remain. People would come and go and I was content to just have a constant place in a changing game. I didn't have any aspirations to change the unit but I refused to abandon it either. I decided to stay here and if people wanted to join me they could. I wouldn't seek them but I wouldn't turn them away either.

Back to the Present

Recently within the unit there has been a call to see what we can do to get more active again. Honestly I was surprised when I was first approached. I gave it some thought and it seems to me that I have the opportunity to continue to live up to the ideals of the Training Corps that drew me in years ago. This can still be a place for new players. This can still be a place for like-minded players. This can still be a place of fun.

The eUS Training Corps Unit

First and foremost let me address the unit name. I will leave it as the eUS Training Corps. I don’t mean to cause confusion or to try and mislead people. I will be the first to tell you that this unit has no affiliation with any other units. We're nothing "official" by whatever definition of the word you want to use. We're a standalone unit. Of course our priorities will strive to match those of the leaders of the eUS but I want to be clear that official government units do exist and we are not one of them.

I want to work toward the same goals that the original Training Corps worked toward during my involvement with them. We want to offer players a place to come together fighting for a common cause. We want a place where players can grow and learn from those of us who have been around longer. I want this to be an easygoing place where you can have your own place within a community.

Think of this unit as a spiritual successor to the original Training Corps. We will carry on the name and the goals though our approach and structure will be different. The game and the community have changed and so this unit will as well.

Honestly this unit is very much a work in progress but I do have some thoughts as to how I will approach things. Above all I want to ensure this unit is a place where people are comfortable and can play the game the way they want to play it. Structure can be great but too much can be restrictive. If we ever get to a point where daily activity feels more like work than like fun then I have failed. I don’t want to require much from the members of the unit. Things like forums and IRC can be great for some players but not so much for others. I want you to do as much as you want to do. We all have lives so I won’t ask for any kinds of time commitments.

I mean to get driven players in positions as regiment captains to offer us the form we need to meet our goals. These captains will be like mentors and guides to the members under them. I see the captains and myself more as support to the members who would like direction, who have questions, or in some way need help. The goal is to facilitate the game not force it on the players.

The Big Picture

Admittedly most everything at this point is up in the air and there are things that will be clearer given time, but as a framework I think this works. If you'd like to join us we’d like to have you here. If you have suggestions please join us and let us know. If you'd like to join the unit just to have a place to fight that's fine too. Really activity is the main thing we’re looking for. Players new and old are all welcome.

At the end of the day the eUS needs active players. There are so many different ways to get involved in something whether it be in the media, in politics, or in military endeavors. Find a place that allows you to get the most fun out of the game and you'll keep coming back. Hopefully in time the eUS Training Corps can be that kind of place too.
