Spain - Day 32

Journal Entry 2 - Day 32

Back in Western Europe, ah, the smell of Spaniards burning never smelt better. Fighting for Portugal against the Spaniards seems like a losing battle, but who the f*ck cares when you are getting paid 6 figures to do something you love.

The Regions of Norte and Algarve are the two regions that we are focusing on, on day 1,670. Norte is a region that the locals are trying to liberate through the resistance wars - and Algarve, as of today, is now controlled by Spain.

Portugal only holds the Region of Lisboa, their capital, so they are hurting and in retreat. Not good - Guessing thats why they called us to come in and try to help.

Starting in Norte and meeting up with the locals that started the resistance wars was not an easy task - these d*mn Spaniards are everywhere. It doesn't surprise me that they are a top 5 populated country in this world. After a fierce day of battles, we put up a good fight, but the other side was too strong to overcome, it was time to cut our losses and retreat. Its always painful when you are on the losing side, but its better to feel pain, than none at all after a loss - at least you are alive to fight again, and I doubt these locals will stop fighting. Sadly, My boys and I won't join them as our time here was done.

We made the trip down to Algarve later in the day - We were hoping to overcome the mornings losses and finish strong before me moved on - but no luck. Same result, same feeling of shame of not being able to perform the job you were put on the Earth to do.

After picking up the pieces and moving back to Lisboa to try to regroup - I received the first good news of the day - Commander made me Captain of Regiment 2 - Great group of guys who are very different, but very alike. Wouldn't trade them for anything. I have their back and they have mine - Anyways - That put a brief smile on my face. I think the first one of the day since one of the boys cracked a joke this morning.

Regardless of the losses, I felt I learned some important lessons today. Never get too down, especially after losing a battle, or a campaign - because there is always tomorrow (if you don't die). So all in all, the fact that we can wake up and do it all again the next day, its a win win scenario every time.

Thanks for hearing me out after a frustrating day,

Rest in Peace,
