Science in the Bible
Jesse2016
On first glance, the Bible may seem unscientific and even backwards according to today’s standards, but in reality, on closer examination, there are some amazingly accurate scientific claims made in the Bible long before any scientific tools were available to understand such systems. For example, long ago it was believed that the world was flat and that if you sailed past the edge you’d fall right off. But Is 40:22 says “He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.” Therefore the Bible clearly mentions the earth is a circle not a flat world. Furthermore, Ecc 1:6-7 says “The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again.” These verses describe the Polar, Ferrel and Hadley cells of circulating air that runs in circuits high above the earth. They also suggest some insight into the hydrological cycle, describing how water evaporates and returns to the watersheds as precipitation.
Even the depths of the seas are mentioned as in Ps 18:15 it says “The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare.” This accurately describes the mid ocean ridges and valleys on the sea floor caused by plate tectonics pushing the crust of the earth and wrinkling it creating these deep sea features.
Lastly even the earth’s position in space is mentioned as Job 26:7-8 says “He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing. He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.” In reality the earth really is suspended over nothing as it orbits the Sun floating in space.
Therefore, there are many interesting facts in the Bible that amazingly predate any methods of scientifically proving they exist. This makes reading the Bible fun and enjoyable as you read small nuggets of scientific information here and there.

"Therefore, there are many interesting facts in the Bible that amazingly predate any methods of scientifically proving they exist"
Yes, these are interesting coincidences. And it's a good thing our ancestors later developed the scientific method to understand how to turn these observable facts into applicable theories. Keep in mind science is really all about the rigourous method of obtaining facts, rather than the proving the hypothesis itself:
"The scientific method is the process by which scientists, collectively and over time, endeavor to construct an accurate (that is, reliable, consistent and non-arbitrary) representation of the world.
Recognizing that personal and cultural beliefs influence both our perceptions and our interpretations of natural phenomena, we aim through the use of standard procedures and criteria to minimize those influences when developing a theory. As a famous scientist once said, "Smart people (like smart lawyers) can come up with very good explanations for mistaken points of view." In summary, the scientific method attempts to minimize the influence of bias or prejudice in the experimenter when testing an hypothesis or a theory.
I. The scientific method has four steps
1. Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena.
2. Formulation of an hypothesis to explain the phenomena. In physics, the hypothesis often takes the form of a causal mechanism or a mathematical relation.
3. Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations.
4. Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and properly performed experiments"

As such, an observation that seems correct at one time or to one set of observers can be later proven, altered, or completely disproved by another set of unrelated observers in another time period. Mutable facts are the essence of scientific information.
Yes, religious books are highly scientific. The pig disgusting have a tough time understanding it all. Here are some excerpts of scientific knowledge about Sand...
"Sand is the most holy of all objects for Dioists. They use it to provide for all their basic needs. Sand kebabs are a popular food among them and they make some of the best houses in the world out of sand. It is also home to the native Sandworms
The most common constituent of sand is silica, or silicon dioxide [SiO2], usually in the form of quartz, which, because of its chemical inertness and considerable hardness, is resistant to weathering
Another major component of sand is waruda, or warudon nitrate [RoN2]. Now we should check if we can find this in Canada. If we dig long enough we might find it in certain places. It is rare unlike the many pig disgusting that we see all around.
Virginization
Due to it's high waruda content, sand is used in the virginization of citizens into Dioism. The sand is said to react with the sweat on one's skin, and will either cause a mild tingling sensation or a violent explosion, depending on Dio's opinion on the person.
Electronics
The silica component of sand is used as a raw material for producing consumer electronics. For instance, the Cell processor in the Sandstation Triple Sand-ray Player is made from pure silicon, which is extracted from sand.
Sand in Entertainment
Singing sand is a natural phenomenon where sand produces sounds of either high or low frequency under pressure. The sound emission is usually triggered by wind passing over dunes or by walking on the sand. The sound is generated by sheer love for the God Emperor.
Certain conditions have to come together to create singing sand
The sand grains have to be round and between 0.1 and 0.5 mm in diameter
The sand has to contain silica
The sand needs to be a certain humidity
The sand is in the presence of Dio Brando
I've walked on singing sand along the beaches near Oregon Dunes National Park. You should make a pilgrimage there. The squeaking really is entertaining.
Also
In northern Alberta during very cold dry winters, if you listen just right, you can hear the fresh snow squeak out "Dio" "Dio" "Dio" as you walk across it. I never really thought of this until now. Your lunacy must be contagious.
What you call lunacy is called "enlightenment". I am an enlightened one since I was blessed by Dio himself when I accidentally touched Dio's hand as he was walking bedraggled and disheveled upon his return from the underworld.
Northern Alberta, yes it is a holy land and a good place for piligrimage.
When I'm at the beach and sand goes between my toes, I'm being punished by Dio due to my sins? Or maybe he's trying to attack my stand?
It is your calling when you recognize Dio's influence or hear the sound of Dio Dio Dio, it means you are ready for ascension. Sins can be washed by punishing a Swede.
Maybe you would like to read the essay of Thomas Robert Malthus about the population. There is a chapter where the priest Malthus write his theories about why the universe is imperfect and holds a view that evolution (or something very similar to it, since the book was written before Darwin, although Darwin was not the first to propose the Transmutation of Species) is compatible with belief in God. I don't remember exactly the chapter though.
Search about Francis Collins (the evangelical scientist that was the chief of the Human Genome Project; he wrote a book, "The Language of God" or some thing like that about his vision that both evolutionism and theism are compatible) and the physicist Freeman Dyson (another theistic scientist)
P.s.: if this matters, I'm an agnostic.
Thanks for the recommendations! Yes I have heard of Malthus and especially his prediction that food production and human population growth will reach a crisis in the future. It is sort of interesting but he didn't know food production could increase due to the green revolution. As for evolution I believe that a young earth (less than 6000 years old) can coexist with adaptation and survival of the fittest but I do disagree with the idea that all species came from a common ancestor. I believe that geological time (the time it took for geological formations to be created which is typically around 4 billion years) was actually real but that time passed by faster in the early years. You can sort of see this in the Bible where early on in history the people lived hundreds of years old like 900 years, and I think this is possible because time passed by faster back then.
I consider your article very interesting, and I thank you for this reading. You'll find that eRepublik discourages writing about RL, but I appreciate much more an effort like yours to give an original and interesting topic to talk and think about, rather than the usual "hey people: I need 25 comments. They are for the 25 comments mission" standard, which is the typical article for new players.
Coming to the "content" of your article, I think that the Bible can really be an important source of many scientific and hystorical theories or details. I would joke saying that it brings you the "temptation" to read it for those little wonders or for the exciting stories, instead of the great spiritual wonders that it reveals to who reads it to meet the words of God.
You're right, there is a danger of just reading the interesting parts of the Bible and forgetting about the rest which is equally if not more important. I once saw a course in university that studied the Bible as a type of literature which essentially takes away all the meaning from the Bible. Thanks for the reply!

If only the bible had gotten Pi right to a handful of digits (1 Kings 7) then maybe we could talk seriously about divine guidance, but it's just do wrong in so many ways all over the place
:/
First of all thanks for employing me! Also thanks for bringing up this subject. I've never heard of it before and it's quite interesting. You're right in that pi is not exact since the Bible assumes pi is equal to 3 based on the measurements. The thing is, the writers of the Bible tends to round off measurements, populations and numbers and I"m not sure why but it's not exactly the amount of measurement or population. For example in Numbers 1, the population of all the tribes of Israel are rounded off to the nearest hundred which is unlikely the true number of people. Why does the Bible not write the exact numbers? Your guess is as good as mine but I believe it's just a matter of rounding not an actual mistake. Thanks for the comment!
The writers of the Bible clearly were not divinely inspired then. There's just too many errors like that :/
BTW you deserve a raise lol
Thanks TemujinBC for the raise, it is greatly appreciated!
there is no science in sheep shagging bible
as a matter of facts English language is the least corrupt/influencedby bible gibberish, some called it pure language of science , look at the word Library in french .. the church persecuted scientist for their findings that contradicted religion .. called free thinking women witches and men called them satanist ... first group of those labled satanist where actuall scientists .. its this dum garbage filled heads that caused the spanish inquisitions and nowadays f### ISIS
I understand what you mean. The church believed in some crazy things back in the day like they believed the world was created on a Thursday afternoon (which is completely unproven by the Bible). There were some big problems with the church where they believed in myths instead of directly believing the Bible which caused errors in their beliefs. A second problem is that the church tried to force people to believe which is wrong because people need to willingly make a decision to truly believe. When you combine these two problems together, you get a church believing in tons of errors and forcing people to believe in these errors. That's why the church did some horrible things like persecuting early scientists. It all could have been prevented if the church followed the Bible accurately and realized that there's nothing wrong with scientists according to the Bible.
